Good price value option from Samsung

We needed a side-by-side because of our space. We researched the many refrigerators available. This has one of the best energy efficiency ratings and it has worked well. We had trouble with the installation because it had gotten set on "maximum cooling" for the refrigerator, which stopped the freezer, for some reason, from cooling down to temperature initially.
The ice maker works well, switches well from cubes to crushed, and the only challenge we have had is that it is not easy to reinsert the ice bucket in the door if you remove it (inside the freezer, to collect the ice in bulk or something.) We did find that it couldn't support the ice demands of 11 people on a hot summer day without running out, but that's a little much to ask.
The lighting, while not as bright as some, has been quite adequate for us, and the large door shelves have worked great for all our many beverage and condiment options. And 25.5 CF is a whole lot of space for a side by side!
The digital display is nice, and I like that you can set the temp in freezer and frig by degree....
And yes, it is extremely quiet as fridges go.

All you need!

The icemaker container is in the door, so you get a generous freezer storage.
The distributed light makes it a state-of-the-art refrigerator.
Door alarm is a great plus and the digital control/display is super!

Whisper quiet, loved it!

I was told by the salesperson that the only difference between RS265TDPN and RS267TDPN was the temperature controlled drawer and the split shelf. List price was $200 difference. Since only the RS267TDRS was on display (at Sears) and I thought everything looked pretty nice and well designed so I opted in to save $200 by going with RS265TDPN (Platinum instead of stainless. Platinum has less fingerprints and works with magnets). Little did I know that the RS265TDPN had a huge FLAW no one had ever realized. The LED tower light on the RS265TDPN only had 6 LED lights vs 12 LEDs on RS267TDPN. (Just on the refrigerator side, freezer side both have 12 LEDs). Since the tower light shines from the back, it's even more difficult to see labels or food colors when it's casting a shadow. All the family members couldn't stand it. We had the RS265TDPN replaced with RS267TDPN. It's seriously day and night difference. For anyone considering either the RS265TDxx or RS263TDxx, please do yourself a favor and upgrade to the RS267TDxx. I am not sure why Samsung took a shortcut on the LED lights and not inform the public. LED lights are so cheap now.... I just don't get it!
Other than lighting issues, this fridge runs in stealth mode! It's 10 times quieter than our 16yr old Amana and at least twice as quiet as the 2008 GE 25.5 side by side that my mother in law has. You'll have to listen very hard to know if it's running or not. Just amazing how quiet it operates.
The ice maker on the door is a great idea for people like me who don't use ice that often and gain extra space inside the freezer for a lot more storeage. The ice bucket is on the small side though.
One drawback with the ice maker on the door is that opening the door for extended period of time will cause heavy condensation on the door and possible melting of the ice. Could be a potential service call if water refreezes and jam the ice makers. To be observed. So far so good though.
Another observation is that the blower fan would stop running every time when the door is opened, I think that's the reason why there's heavy condensation instead of American brands which usually keeps the fan running deliverying cold air even when the door is open.
Overall, I think the's still room to improve, but it's the best one I've seen so far. You won't go wrong with this one for sure.

Awesome Features & Awesome Value
Posted by: RockChalk28 from: Lawrence, KS on
First of all, I don't understand others reviews of this refridgerator that are negative. They sound like they are refridgerator experts and just have a superior knowledge of fridges. This fridge rocks. It looks amazing, it has many great features, and when on sale, you can't beat the price! I've had this fridge for about a month and it is awesome. The tag says it was manufactured in February of 2012. So, it is possible that in between some of the original negativity they have fixed issues. The letters on the fridge are now flush with the fridge, so there is no possible way a letter can come off. The complaints about the frost or condensation probably didn't read the instructions. You can run it in power save mode (which is another awesome feature) which can lead to condensation build up when the door is open or not, which they recommend if it causes issues in that regard. The ice maker so far for me has worked great! It make as much noise as I would expect ice falling in to a cup to make... some cups are louder than others. The water (which is cold I might add) goes in to the cup too...easily. Not as hard as some of the previous fridge experts claim. I have yet to fill up the fridge as it is so spacious I'm not sure we'd ever need enough food to fill it up. I can imagine that if you tried to put enough food in there to fill it, I think the idea that it would get dark in there is valid..however, thats how any fridge would be if you filled it. Well, maybe not if you upped your budget another $500 to get a fridge with a better light. By the way, the LED lights are awesome and have impressed many family members so far. Oh, the fridge is dang near silent. The most noise it makes other than when it drops its ice is a very faint hum, which is about 10 times quieter than any other fridge I've ever heard. The bluedisplay and the sleek stainless steel just transforms our kitchen. Overall this fridge is awesome, spacious, looks amazing, keeps food at the exact temp we want it, makes enough ice for a normal amount of people. It is just awesome, and for the price on sale (yes, wait for it to go on sale at least under $1200, or you're spending too much!), you can't beat it!!!

Nice looking, great performance, quiet

In looking at refrigerators I was surprised at the lack of quality and basic options, but this Samsung filled our wishlist almost perfectly. Having the ice maker in the door gave us a bit more freezer space which we always need. Would prefer more baskets in the freezer then shelves, but that is more personal preference and hard to find in general.
We plugged in the fridge and started putting on the doors, in the short time it took to reattach the doors the freezer and fridge side were both almost cooled down completely, call us impressed. I cook a lot of large batches of soup and stock that take forever to cool so this will help out greatly. The seal on the freezer door seems very heavy duty, the doors are balanced very well even fully loaded.
Some folks complain about the noise of the ice in the door, yes, you can hear the 2 second sound of ice dropping, but I would take the extra freezer space over that sound any day. The water/ice flap is a bit odd and takes some getting used to.
My one major complaint, the fridge shelves do not offer a ton of adjustment. We have a water pitcher and it is too wide for the doors, and too tall to go in between the shelves unless we remove a shelf all together, bummer. Apparently they assumed all tall items like milk and juice would go in the doors. The LED lighting is different, maybe not as bright as we are used to, but not a problem as I see it.

Looks great, but improvements are possible
Posted by: tboneivd from: RDU on
This unit was a very good buy at the price. It replaced a fridge we had been struggling with for a few months and finally just junked it.
First the good: The design on this thing looks really good. The sides are in a nice complimentary grey. Why other manufacturers insist on black sides is a mystery as I find the contrast a little too much in a stainless steel dominated kitchen. The unit cools well, and space efficiency seems much better than the unit it's replacing. It's quiet except for the expected racket when ice is being dropped and the water replaced. The LEDs are efficient lighting and give an interesting bluish-white effect.
Now the improvements. Like everyone else is saying, the ice maker could use a bit of redesign. I don't know if they were going for space efficiency, but the shallow area for ice and water leads to ice on the floor. You have to give a little thought to how you hold the glass, when to let go of the switch, and when to move the glass (3-4 seconds later). You still will get ice on the floor sometimes.
There is no backlighting for the face of the ice/water display. There are LED indicators, but you can't see what they're describing. In the dark, if you don't have all of the soft buttons memorized, you have no chance of operating the ice/water dispenser. This was something that even our old clunker did better.
The LED lighting in the lower portion of the freezer is inadequate. They should have put an additional set of LEDs near the bottom to give better visibility at the bottom.
This sounds like a lot of complaints, but I wanted to give a little detail for other considering the unit. In general, we're glad we bought it. It looks and cools great. At the price we paid, we consider it a very good buy.

Have had this refrigerator for six weeks. This refrigerator exceeded my expectations. Really love the ice maker in the door, along with the front control panel. The inside is roomy. Best Buy customer service was good and my sales person was very helpful. Overall a good experience. Only gave it 4 stars because only time will tell how well it performs.

Great Value, Great Price, Great Fridge!
Posted by: Belgaram from: Millville, NJ on
We have had this fridge for about 2 weeks now and I am extremely happy with it so far. It has all of the features we wanted and the look and class that we like. There was a little issue with not being enough pressure for the water with a tap valve, but we hooked it up with a ball valve connection and it is great! Makes ice perfectly. Water is great. Took around 24 hours from the time we first had it hooked up until it started making ice, but we haven't even come close to running out and that is with 5 people using it. The extra room in the freezer from the ice maker being on the door is the reason we went with this model. The ONLY complaint I have is the way the shelves attach to the fridge door. My wife opened the fridge the other day and the shelf came crashing down leaving a long crack in it. But the operation is great. It runs quietly and efficiently. A little note. If someone accidently holds 2 of the buttons at the same time it could put the fridge into store mode. The lights and everything will work like it is operational, but the cooling gets turned off. It shows on the panel, but is not clear in the manual. (Took some searching to find what had happened and how to fix it). I would definitely refer this to anyone looking for a new fridge.

This is actually a nice refrigerator. But, the ice maker is horrible. Cubed ice comes out crushed. It backs up a lot. And, the inside of it has a lot of built up frost- which probably clogs it. I have reset it, called customer service, but no avail. There was some complaints about the icemaker that I read in reviews. I should have listened. Also, a week after I got the refrigerator, I was cleaning the door with a soft cloth and stainless steel polish. The cloth caught the "S" on the Samsung decal, and took the "S" off. I called for a new "S," or a whole new sticker set. Samsung said, "no way, that is a cosmetic thing." To come out and fix it, they would have charged me for a service call. I just need an 'S!' And, it was only a week old! So, the fridge looks dorky as an "AMSUNG." I actually called again about the sticker and they still said no. So, instead of buying an Amsung stove and microwave to match, I recently bought both Whirlpool. Samsung lost our continued business over a sticker?????? Of an S!!! Not recommended! One more thing- the top shelf is low, you will not be able to fit 2 liters or gallons of milk on ANY of the shelves, so keep the shelves on the door clear! Kinda odd, really.

So-so in features and performance
Posted by: GuyC from: Manchester, NH on
The unit itself is nice as far as space inside goes. Lighting is really nice.
But where I feel this unit falls short has everything to do with ice/water.
First.. Ice shoots out all over the place. even on cube ice setting and with the glass all the way up, crushed ice still shoots out onto the floor about every other time.
Second...The ice actuator is a 2 stop detent on a single lever and is extremely tough to actuate. Sometimes I fear the glass will shatter in my hand.
If the ice bin is removed, it never goes evenly back into the door... you need to manually spin the ice auger to a neutral position which invariable drops ice chunks out the chute on the bottom.
And finally the water is not refrigerated when it comes out. The manual actually says that if the user wants cold water that they should use ice.
