It's ok except the ice maker
Posted by: bsbrockw61 from: on
We purchased this refrigerator in July 2015 and for the most part I like it. It's roomy enough and organized fairly well. As with most everything that's bought, you're always going to find things that you don't particularly like about it. This refrigerator is no different remembering that nothing is perfect.
As of this date, 1/15/2016, I have not experienced the horror stories that some of the other reviewers have had and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I did read these reviews before we bought and the reviews of all of the other refrigerators and guess what, they all have horror stories.
So we purchased the Best Buy warranty program just in case and we're hoping we don't have to use it.
That all being said here's what I don't like about it.
The Wide Open Cool Select Pantry that that you can control the temperature on is really nice. We keep our deli meat and cheese in it and I like that it's flat, wide and deep. However, you have to open both of the main doors when you want to get something from there and I didn't realize just how much we go there.
Now, this isn't really that big of a deal but we were trying to decide between the 3 door and 4 door refrigerator. The 4 door being the one that has the Wide open cool zone with a door you just pull out without having to open any other doors. This is just a difference in design and I'm not taking off any points because that was our decision and it's on us. Kind of petty but I thought I would mention it in case someone reading these reviews is trying to decide between the two.
Now to my real gripe. The ice maker. I sure wish you could test ice makers before you make a purchase. This thing is slow and there's not a large capacity. When I get ice, I can hear it running but nothing is happening, then a few pieces drop, then a few more until I finally get enough ice. Torques me every time. I've checked the bin multiple times and it's full. Not sure what to make of it.
It's also loud. The first few times I heard something I thought, what just hit the house. Oh, it was the ice maker. Now I'm used to it and it's not really a big deal. It's just noise.
I was really struggling with the star rating. Going back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. I ultimately decided on 4 because the ice maker is the only pain. Everything else about the refrigerator is fine.
I hope this helps anyone trying to decide on a refrigerator.

This was my first french door fridge. I am coming from a side by side and simply need more refrigerator space and that is wider. I also love Samsung TV products so thought with 25% off on this fridge it was a steal. It wasn't.
Here are a list of issues:
1. The doors wouldn't soft close automatically. My other much cheaper starter fridge did this well. I kept having the alarm go off telling me the door was open. All I expected was with a slight toss of the door, for it to close.
2. The water came out at a funny angle. Pitched forward and to the left. When filling some stuff the water would come out of the glass.
3. A loud low pitched humm that would overtake my TV noise in the next room started happening more and more.
4. The left door has the ice output slide. There are these very shallow shelves. I found them to be worthless.
5. The ice was very small and to get it it took 3 seconds to start. It also didn't work sometimes. I would have to push a couple times.
It's a shame this unit was such a bad experience for me. I still love Samsung but I think I'll stick with their TVs, I even own a stove of theirs as well and it's great, not so much their refrigerators.
Bought an LG LFX29945ST. Pretty much the same with some different features. I tested all the problems I had above and none exist, it has more ice, has the door in door feature which is great, unobstructed fridge space, no ice maker in the way.
I'm a dude and I never thought I'd care about what a fridge does but when you go from a standard to one of these french door deals it will change your life.

Caveat Emptor “let the buyer beware”
Posted by: Dissatisfied from: on
It is my contention that Samsung Corporation knowingly used inferior stainless steel - that spontaneously begins to rust within 7 months of purchase - in the manufacture and/or assembly our 7 month old refrigerator.
After all, why would the warranty for refrigerator # RFG******* state “This limited warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship…” and then afterward state “and shall not apply to the following, including, but not limited to… cosmetic damage or exterior finish.” I am left to speculate that Samsung does not produce sheets of stainless steel for this refrigerator and that it purchases said material from a supplier of inferior quality materials. Thus the warranty states that it covers manufacturing defects (if manufactured by Samsung) or poor workmanship. As the problem is not poor workmanship (or cosmetic damage) in the assembly of the refrigerator but poor quality components manufactured by an assumed outside entity, Samsung will not warrant the exterior finish of this product.
Samsung’s response to my concerns? Clean the rust off and apply an appliance wax to hinder the rust build-up. Really? Had I known that the above fine print was in the warranty I probably would not have purchased the unit. This is our second Samsung refrigerator (the older one very similar to the new but it had an icemaker/water dispenser in the door). The first had a white enamel finish that always look like new. Because Samsung refuses to replace the door of an almost new refrigerator I am left to wonder, do they really care about losing me as a repeat customer?
Best Buy refused to help at all. The store manager simply told me that it is Best Buy’s policy to honor the manufacturer’s warranty. I informed him that this does not help me at all as Samsung has no warranty on exterior finishes. So Best Buy is going to honor Samsung’s non-warranty. Thanks for nothing.
BTW, my wife and I also purchased, from Best Buy, a Samsung gas range/oven, Bosch dishwasher, and Kitchen Aide trash compactor within the last year. Do you really want our economic relationship to come to an abrupt end?
Let it be known to all that Best Buy is now put on notice that they in fact know that Samsung does not offer a warranty on the exterior finish of this refrigerator. It was sold to us as having an excellent warranty and if we had any problems within the first year Samsung would fix the problem. I believe this to be true except for the exterior finish – especially if it is stainless steel.
To Best Buy and Samsung: I don’t need to purchase anything from either of you. I have many options available to me. If you will not satisfy us in our desire to have a refrigerator that does not spontaneously rust, I must conclude that you really don’t care to conduct any further business with me and my family.

Compressor out in 67 days
Posted by: SamsungFridge from: on
Bought this fridge in September 14, 2015 but didn’t have it delivered until December 21, 2015 due to kitchen remodeling. It was on sale during Labor Day and that was why we bought Samsung over other brands. Shame on me for not listening to advice from friends and family. Most had varies problems with Samsung fridges (different models). Mostly had compressor out with one year. This fridge started to make loud noise coming from compressor (continuous metal humming) last night at 1:08am, woke me up, and we are in a two stories. Had to sleep in study room which is furthest away from kitchen. Woke up 7:20am, the fridge loud noise still on. Called Samsung customer service, here go hoops to jump through. "Level the appliance, reset temp, buy and replace water filter..." Blah, blah, blah.
This fridge was delivered and installed by Best Buy contracted delivery service and technician. If it was unleveled and improperly installed, it would have problem the next few days after installed and not two months later. Now front door dispenser is leaking water from ice melting in icemaker. In between calls, I asked across the street neighbor who is an independent appliance repair contractor, come over and immediately said its compressor problem. Also commented Samsung compressor is a well-known problem. Again, should have listened.
After five calls today until 10:45am, finally a customer service “Erica” agreed to start ticket for repair technician. Earliest available day, Wednesday (It’s Sunday). Meanwhile we have plenty of half melted ice cream, worm yogurt, and worm milk to finish. This is a very expensive experience, I don’t know about other brands but I am counting 6 family member s and friends who had same compressor problem with their Samsung fridges within warranty period. All had difficult time getting problem resolved. My in law had 3 compressors replaced for the same fridge with 10 months period. I didn’t listen. Do yourself a favor, stay away from Samsung fridge. Samsung phones and TVs maybe, not fridge. Hope my expensive ongoing experience save you future trouble from owing a Samsung fridge.

We bought this refrigerator in July, 2014. We had a repairman came 3 times already. The refrigerator is loud when the fan come on and it goes on and off for hours. We purchased warranty so Geek Squad replaced the mother board and the whole cooling panel, but we still have the same problem. There are more than 1500 reviews about the same problem. Samsung continues to sale the same products. I am so frustrated and wasted of my time when I have to wait for the repairman to come. I will NOT recommend ANY SAMSUNG refrigerators to anyone. SAMSUNG get your act together and fix this problem!!!

Samsung has the worst service ever
Posted by: JEGR from: on
The day the refrigerator was installed it started making a noise within a few hours. The flap for the ice maker would open and shut for minutes before stopping. It stopped doing it that day so I did nothing about it. About 10 months later it started again sometimes for hours. I call Samsung to have it repaired and they sent someone to fix it. They replaced the touch screen on the door and the flap mechanism. It solved the noise problem, but they said they found another problem (the main PCB?) and said they would have to come back to fix it. They left a message one day saying they were coming out to fix it, but apparently they don't think we work so they just showed up without confirming the appointment. They were mad at us for not being there and showed up again the next day, again without confirming the appointment, but luckily my wife was home. They replaced the part and said to call them to confirm there was ice in the icemaker. There was so we called them, but then we realized the ice dispenser no longer worked. We called them back and they said the ticket was closed and we had to start the process all over again. I called Samsung and they asked my appointment preference date and said they would call to confirm. They confirmed the date and time, so I took off work for the third appointment and they never showed up and said they had no record of the appointment. I called Samsung and they blamed the repair place and said they couldn't help me on that day, but would call me next week to set up yet another appointment. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they said they were busy and would call back within 24 to 48 hours. This is unacceptable! My wife or I will have to take a fourth day off work and hope they fix it this time. Of course the 1 year warranty is about to expire and they gave me a hard time about that, saying I had to show proof (again) of the purchase date and that the problem is related to the initial service call. At least my kids are happy; because of this experience we are trading in our Samsung phones for Apple and getting an iPad to replace our Samsung tablet. BTW, we paid about $1,900 around Memorial Day ("the lowest price of the season") and it went on sale for $1,800 a week or two later. Best Buy credited me the difference when I went to the store.

I read the reviews on this refrigerator and thought it sounded like a good one... I had wanted a French-style one for a long time and spent a significant amount of time researching my options. I purchased it in November of 2012.
The FIRST disappointing feature is the ice maker. There is no bucket or bin to collect the ice - all you get is what can fit in the distribution channel. Fill a small ice bucket? You are out of ice. Other reviewers did mention the fact that when the ice falls into the channel it makes a loud noise, and that is because it is never falling on other ice cubes - it always hits the hard plastic 'screw' that is used to move the ice through the dispenser. At least once a month, the 'mouth' of the dispenser gets clogged with ice cubes / bits and has to be cleared with the door open. (make sure you have someone else there to catch the ice bits as it clears!) And don't make the mistake of using the 'crushed' ice option - you will never get all whole ice cubes again.
The second disappointing feature? Poorly manufactured. Less than 3 years after purchasing this fridge, I am having to spend $500 to have the entire filter mechanism replaced. AND I had to call around to find a repair shop that will even work on Samsung's, because my regular appliance repairman doesn't work on Samsung because "the parts are hard to get."
If I were made of money I'd give this sucker away and replace it, but alas I am stuck with it now. I would DEFINITELY NOT recommend this fridge or any other Samsung appliance to my friends.

I'm not sure why I'm one of the only negative reviews, but I've had SOOOOOO many issues with this fridge. My refrigerator is only 3 years old and I have problems with this product every 3-4 months where I have to call our a maintenance repair guys to come out and repair it or order a "new part". It is crazy to me that such an expensive refrigerator has such issues. The most common one being that the fridge starts to make a loud humming noise and the back of the inside of the fridge ices over causing the fridge to no longer cool. This happened the week after I gave birth and we were stuck in the house with a newborn with a fridge full of now WASTED and RUINED food as well as spoiled breastmilk that I had pumped. It was devastating. The fact that this is a reoccurring issue and is now happening yet AGAIN is insane, I'm in complete shock that I'm dealing with this again and I still cannot receive a call back from the company. I am very disappointed in the quality of this product as well as the customer service I'd received from Samsung. I am running out of ways to contact the company to get a response and a way to make it right. Please tell me what I should do? What would you do in my shoes? Sincerely, Very Frustrated Mom who is sick of wasting valuable food destroyed by her Samsung fridge.

Miy compressor broke defrosted all my food. One hour on phone with scripted call takers that keep saying sorry. Three days later repairman comes and says I need a new compressor and he will come back in three days with one. Spends two hours replacing compressor and then says freezer might break again because the leak could be inside the fridge and he can't fix that. Two weeks later freezer dies I lose food again. Hour on hold and repairman needs to return to confirm problem. Three days later he returns and says I need a new fridge. Hour on hold and advised to send in picture of receipt! Spoke with two "Senior" customer service reps after hour on hold who provided me with their emails to communicate directly to avoid hour hold time Elizabeth H and Christina J i emailed both twice and never received any reply.
After repairman left he let the remainder of freon out of fridge so now my entire fridge stopped working. Hour on hold and advised I need to wait three days for a refund approval.
That would mean I'm expected to wait four days with no fridge at all.
Finally receive approval for a refund and advised I won't be getting taxes back and they are only doing this as a courtesy? Isn't that what a warranty is for? This went on for weeks their customer service is horrible. One time they called me as I was waiting for my refund approval then tell me they will put me through to a "senior" customer service rep and I was put on hold for 30 min and a rep answers and says can I help you? They called me!! No idea why I was called.
They make a nice looking product but GOOD LUCK if it breaks!!!!!

One Month in and We like it!

I can't say much about reliability at this point, but what I do know is this fridge is head and shoulders better as far as features than our previous one. So far, it's been quiet and has tons of space and light. From what I can tell it keeps a good even temperature.
Outside of a small amount of water that sometimes comes out of the ice dispenser (which I believe is just melted ice that got trapped when the flap closed) I can't say there is anything that sticks out as bad.
