Why!!! Thin edge lit samsung?

Posted by: Cloud from Brooklyn on 04/02/2016So i wrote a review on this product and it was removed but i am doing so again because the consumers need to know the truth. Lets no look at the brand name of this product for a min. I purchased this set last week because the bestbuy associate told me it was the next hest thing to OLED. After buying this set i did a nimber of testing this is nothing close to Oled or great black levels. The set it self is elegant looking. I cant take that away from samsung, but unfortunately i did not spend almost $4000 to look at the set. Its supposed to have the best looking picture quality, To some it up no it does not. Fo one this set is edge let from the top and bottom of the set also it is extremely thin. With the laws of physics there is no way you can get great black levels with a thin edge lit led tv. In a dark room this set has alot of blooming and semi light bleed especially id you are watching anything with letter box. At times even with movies that have do not have letter box, a dark scene that randomly has a bright light or bright colors. The bottom/side of the set with the bright scene blooms as if the set trys to turn off one have of the led strips to give you the illusion of deep blacks but creates a washed out black with tones of blooming across that section of the screen. This is horrible lighting, this is no where close to OLED or even sonys new slim backlight drive technology. So i test a series of movies to make my conclusion on this set before returning it. The first was the dark knight rises. The sense were bane fights the dark knight. The motion is horrendous creating an artificial halo around bane as he moves in the night. Also watching the darklnights hands jitter while the throws punchs, also the ears of the batman while he moves was also horrible. Motion aside in my theater room i was never able to have a moment or deep blacks due to the light blooming through out the set. The second test was the hobbit Desolation of Smaug, in bright scenes the set looks ok but the battle in the town looks horrible. Due to all of the dark to bright scenes of smags flames made the tv seem as if it was flicker like a strobe light. I have also notice that the colors are too over saturated even for HDR when watching the Martian in 4k hdr. In short the set is extremely fast the new smart remote is great even tho it looks as if samsung stole that design from amazon fire tv. This set is too over priced for it being edge lit. For all who dont understand being edge and achieving a 1000nits of brightness will only destroy the contrast levels and most importantly in a super thin design. The light has to go somewhere. I returned this set and bought the sony 65x930D. Its not oled but its a way better set. Go to your local bestbuy and have them show you this set before you turn your fanboy light on.

Great TV for the average consumer

Posted by: ShakyPockets from on 04/01/2016This is a great TV for the average consumer. However, it is not priced for the average consumer, but rather the videophile high end market. This is where Samsung fails. First things first: the TV is edge lit - top and bottom, not sides anymore - not FALD. Samsung has done this for two reasons. 1) To get HDR level brightness/contracts/etc and 2) Their "research" says that most people watch TV in a lit room so blacks don't matter that much. This point to my point that this TV is built for the average consumer.That is not to say the picture is not fantastic, it is. Colors are amazing; their CMR/AMP is still one of the best in it's class. Secondly, the blacks are fantastic for an edge lit when sitting in the center of the TV. That is where the great blacks end. The further out you go on a viewing angle, the light bleed becomes atrocious and colors wash out significantly. Thirdly, the micro stuttering on this TV is horrible. If you are sensitive to this feature - I am, my wife can't see it - it makes the TV unwatchable. This has been an intermittent problem with Samsung TVs for some time, and I wish they would have solved it by now. Lastly, the TV really is a gorgeous piece from an aesthetic standpoint. The "no bezel" screen really is fantastic and it is almost as thin as an OLED. To sum things up, I had to return the TV due mainly to the micro stuttering. I gave this TV three stars because the picture was indeed fantastic, as long as you were sitting in the center and the design was excellent. I would only recommend this TV to the casual TV buyer, who is not looking for the best TVs have to offer (FALD, etc).

After The First 24 Hours - First Impressions

Posted by: Sharpy from on 04/01/2016I have been a Sony person for so many years I can't remember. I went out of my comfort zone this time when I saw how good the video was on this TV. And to be honest, I was skeptical of Sony's Android based system. This Samsung 65" TV is excellent. It looks solidly built and has all of the features I will ever use. The black levels may not be as good as OLED but they are close. If you want to test it, run the recent film "Run All Night" (viewed from HBO). There are plenty of nighttime scenes to test this TV out. You have to consider that what comes across on the screen is only as good as the original production. The up scaling is as good as it gets based on the original content. I have not tried a bluray disc as yet, but would expect to see a definite upgrade in what I am used to seeing. I had Geek Squad deliver and set the TV up. They did my Internet connection and tested it as well as doing a software update and all worked without problem. They accessed a 4K demo from You Tube to test the streaming and it all worked flawlessly and that is considering that I don't trust the speed of my internet connection to do much more than slow down and stop without warning. All in all, my first impression after just 24 hours - Perfect!

Awsome tv, but no 3D!

Posted by: Jinketsu87 from on 03/31/2016Right off the bat, this badboy works amazingly with my Samsung ultra bluray player! The colors are sharp, easy to use. Has game mode and sports mode. The picture is almost like oled, but not quite. Overall its sharp contrast and hdr is breathe-taking. Its the best tv I have purchased by far! Cannot go wrong with this one. But in the setting the tv up it was flickering, but after everything was finished the flickering stopped. I did worry about that because i have never had a flickered tv before. I honestly did not know what was causing that. Way better than last years model. The remote is easy to use and very well built. Omg i cant get enough of this tv, its perfect in everyway. The built in speakers did upgraded and its pretty loud. The picture and motion rate is incredible. No shutter effects that i can see. Trust me in person, picture quality is very very very detailed! The only downside is no 3D. And one connect box is very small and lightweight. Plus this tv is very thin and i cant hardly see the bezel. Worth the money spent. Im Happy with this product!!!!!!

Looks sleek and nice but much cheaper than 2015

Posted by: Cris from on 03/30/2016I feel it's not built as well as last years model the processor is only 1/4 the size and the picture quality Isn't as nice it blurs out on movement. No camera on new one , no 3D no sports mode, no full back lighting just corner lighting. Remote is not as user friendly as the other remote feels cheaper. Even the packaging is a downgrade from previous model. I think this is why Samsung is selling it cheaper than last years model.
