Best Refrigerator I have owned
Posted by: Bob21 from: on
The Samsung Showcase Refrigerator is by far the best one that I have ever owned. This is the 4th Refrigerator we have had in our homes. We have only owned GE refrigerators before. The Samsung refrigerator out does them all. I did a ton of research through Consumer Reports, reading reviews online and thoroughly checking them out in the stores. I was blown away that Samsung was one of the top rated refrigerators on the market. After owning ours for over 1 month, I completely agree.
Pros: First highlight is the useable space within the refrigerator. Our old refrigerator was 25 Cubic Feet. The new Showcase is 28.7 Cubic Feet. I was surprised by how much more space was available with the extra 3.7 cubic feet. The second highlight is the Showcase door. It is a great feature for just grabbing drinks out of the fridge. The 3rd highlight is how quiet the refrigerator is. I read some reviews about the noise of the ice maker. After owning it for over 1 month I didn’t even know that it was on. Our old GE Fridge was really loud I guess. Regarding the reviews about the noise of the ice maker. If you’ve never owned a refrigerator with an ice maker before, then yes it is loud when the ice drops. However, having 3 refrigerators with an ice maker, this actually seemed quieter than our previous refrigerators.
Final highlight is the stainless steel. I noticed it when in the Best Buy showroom, that the finish was much cleaner on this refrigerator than the competition. This Showcase refrigerator was also out front for the refrigerator section, so you know it got the most traffic. It stays very clean and doesn’t get the smudges like the other stainless steel refrigerators I compare it too. In the month that we have had it, I think we may have wiped some smudges off once.
Cons: The only con which I did read reviews for is the lighting within the fridge. I do agree that Samsung could have done a much better job with the lighting. It does seem dark in the back of the fridge. If tend to go to the fridge in the middle of the night with all of the lights off, this may be a distractor. However, if you normally open the fridge with your lights on in the kitchen, this won’t be much of a problem.
Overall – This is a fantastic refrigerator and highly recommended.

New technology door concept
Posted by: Harryfat from: Union City, CA on
Bought this bad boy on Memorial Day weekend sale when they had a Samsung promotion for $300 off for Best buy members. We went into the store thinking of getting the French door models as those seems to be the current fashion trend but the wife doesn’t like the middle insulation bar on the French door models so we went back to the tried and true side by side model.
Being a “showcase” model, this one definitely attracts attention at the showroom floor once people realizes there is the extra special door to open other than the typical two doors. While we were doing the paperwork to pay for our purchase, it was funny to see the various reactions of people’s reaction to the special showcase door. If you have small kids, having the showcase door will be easier for them to reach their snacks front and below on the bottom.
If you don’t need the “wow” factor of showcase features, you can save yourself few hundred dollars in getting the non-showcase model as the interior functioning isn’t that much different than the other high end Samsung or other models. You are paying a price premium for the new technology/design.
If you care what exact temperature the refrigerator and the freezer is at any given time, the LED display will tell you anytime the door is opened and you can program it to reach a specific number, not just turning a knob on a scale of 1 to 5 a la some other models.
Personally not having the door handles like a typical side by side gives it a more clean cut look as there is nothing that protrudes out but that is more of a personal preference
Keep in mind this is a fairly big refrigerator. It barely was able to squeeze into our front door and into the kitchen via a long walk around loop. So be sure to measure the dimensions of not just the kitchen area but the path to get to the kitchen form the front door. The 35 plus inch depth will preclude it from closing in via the other smaller doors (like the door into the house form the garage door).
For some odd reason, Best buy/Samsung is pricing the larger 28.7 cubic feet the same price as the smaller 21.5 cf model. So as long as your kitchen can fit it, get the bugger size as you have a much deeper refrigerator to store the food.

It's a beautiful refrigerator, but I just wonder if it will last 25 years like my recently retired GE. This new showmaker seems fragile to me and it has a lot of technical parts that are ripe for malfunctioning. So far and Ive only had it for 1 full day and it's performing well. The shelves and bins in the outer door are nice, but if you want to put a water bottle in them, forget it. They'll fall over because the shelf is open on both sides. There is no butter compartment and not designated deli drawer. I'm using the vegetable bin. There is no humidity controlled vegetable, fruit or cheese drawer. It remains to be seen how well produce and cheese stays fresh. My old refrigerator had all that. PROGRESS? I could have bought one with all that, but I'm short and french door fridges make it hard or impossible to reach the top and back. This is a pretty unit and I am pleased so far with the way it keeps the temperature even. I like the ice maker and so far it's making it fairly regularly. The water dispenser splashed water everywhere until I realized that you have to hold the container right under the spout. Also, the tech said that at first the water would come out fast and drip a lot. It did. But after a day there's only one drip after it turns off. I just hold the container there to catch it. I really like the ice drawer at the top of the freezer to hold extra ice. I empty the ice bin (which is really easy to remove), into the drawer and can build up a supply for company. I plan to buy a basket or some other container to hold all my freezer items instead of just laying them on a shelf. It has 2, but it doesn't hold everything and I like being able to pull it out to see what I have rather than sifting through the shelf and having to pull things from the back. I love not having a handle on the front. It looks sleek.
I haven't begun to experiment with all the features, but so far I'm pleased.
BE aware of the size, and if you plan to push it into a slot with walls on each side, you have to allow the fridge to protrude several inches on each side for the doors to open fully. This is annoying because instead of being able to push the fridge all the way to the back wall, I have to have it pulled out in the floor. Otherwise, as I said, you can't open the doors fully to remove bins or shelves and it's hard to reach in with the doors only partially opened.

Nice fridge. Lots of space. Even in the freezer side. So much more room since the ice maker is 100% in the door.
Would be nice if the front doors were magnetic, but they are not. Only the sides are.
The wireless feature (android app) is neat as it will tell you the power consumption per month and you can control the settings of the fridge as if you where at the front panel.
Two things I have found that I don't like about it. 1) The ice dispenser seems to take a while to start dispensing the ice. Granted it is only 4-5 seconds, but I guess I am just used to my previous 10 year old fridge. 2) It doesn't come in white :(
Over all, very nice fridge.

I would have rated it 5 stars, but the first one broke in less than a month. The "Geek Squad" phone person, Ron, who gave me misinformation in a previous situation, tried to tell me that I'd have to contact Samsung. I told him that I bought the refrigerator from Best Buy because I was assured that they would back the warranty, and do the service/replacement calls. He was immovable. Thus, I called back and spoke to someone who told me that I was entitled to a new unit, and that it would be delivered on a specified date. She also stated that I'd get an e-mail, and/or phone call one day prior to the delivery date to give me a time window for delivery. No e-mail arrived. When I again called the Geek Squad, I was once again connected with Ron, who told me that "They don't do that anymore." The next day, the day of delivery, I again called, and spoke to Roberto, who confirmed that the e-mail should have been sent, and that he was just about to call me. I wish that I knew who to believe. You have great products and great prices. Your phone people, however, make dealing with your store a real challenge.

Good not Great
Posted by: tkeller00 from: on
Well like many of you probably are thinking, the door is a gimick, and not something you will use beyond the first few weeks. I was that guy, as I stood in front of a row of refrigerators at the local Best Buy, but we liked the style, and it came in 28.7 Cu.Ft size, and we had the room, so we bought away!
First i'll admit this, the door is one of the better features, we almost use it exclusively, only opening the full door for very large items. We have learned to organize the smaller door for about 90% of our items we use daily. So one star for proving me wrong, I like the door
Second, this thing is quiet, some reviewers said it was loud, it does make noise when it drops ice, the ice maker is in the door, but unless you use quite a bit of ice, this won't be an issue. I might hear it drop once or 2 a day.
Third, this thing is solid, and has a ton of space, we had the french door model last time and the bottom freezer always became a jumbled mess, the side by side virtually stopped this, and with the size we even found ourselves with empty shelves in the freezer.
Now the Cons, and by cons, not deal breakers, but if fixed would make this a 5 star fridge.
The lighting in the refrigerator isn't bright enough in the back of the box. The front few items are fine, and its not like you cannot see in the box, but a light along the back of the box would have really helped especially at night.
Then there is my biggest grief, and if it were just for the light, this could be a 5 star refrigerator, but the ice dispenser is so slow, I find myself opening the door to get ice, because its quicker then using the door dispenser. It takes over 15 seconds for the dispenser to even recognize you are pushing the lever, then when it finally catches its drops once cube every 3 to 5 seconds. While this might not sound like a long time, its quite slow compared to about ever other refrigerator I have ever owned, or used. All in all not a deal breaker, but definitely our number one complaint, Its supposed to be a selling feature, but we rarely use it. The water dispenser is great, although its not chilled, which I did find a bit odd, again not a big deal. You can also fill a gallon jug of water from the door dispenser if you tilt it slightly, which we do quite often to fill the coffee machine or make instant drinks.
Fix the ice machine and this thing is very good, get the lights as well and its great, fit and finish are excellent.

Good Fridge...maybe not the best
Posted by: MBAOJ from: on
Overall: I like the fridge but it's not worth full price. It's a very pricey price that similar fridges provide the same functionality.
- The refrigerator is large which is what I wanted.
- Drawers and shelves slide easily
- Door trays are removable for easy cleaning
- sectioning off areas is easy with the design
- ice production is pretty fast and theirs a drawer that can be used for storing additional ice
- The doors are heavy (note I may need to adjust the legs to help correct). I did accidentally close the door on my finger and it hurt. If it was an infant they would have lost their finger.
- The half door looses its allure after a month. If everyone put everything in the same place all the time, it would be great but that isn't reality in a house of four.
- I came home one day and the refrigerator shut off for some reason. I had to google the fix which was holding two buttons at the same time for 3 seconds. I have no idea why this occurred.
- I wish it had one more drawer as opposed to two drawers in the refrigerator.

Awesome refrigerator highly recommend

This refrigerator replaced my Whirlpool Gold which went out in less than 2 years and no one could seem to fix it. This refrigerator is extremely quite compared to other refrigerators. The thru the door feature is not just for looks it is extremely useful with children as they are not closing and opening the entire door every time they need a drink or a quick snack making it much more efficient.

Space, Space and more Space
Posted by: n0s4atu from: Bethesda, MD on
I really wanted to give this fridge 4.5 stars, but that's simply not an option. This fridge has a ton of space. We had a 24 cu ft one prior to this and the difference is huge.
The only real down side to this fridge is the ice maker and water dispenser. Having one place to get both is convenient IF you want ice water. If you just want a cube of ice it can often be a hassle that results in you getting sprayed. There've been some complaints about the amount of ice, but for a 2 person household with guests coming in and out fairly often it makes more than enough. The dispenser itself is rather slow though. Often I find simply yanking the whole bin is faster and less messy.
If you want to get out a bunch of ice you cannot simply reach in the back like every other fridge I've owned, you must pull out the entire ice bucket.
If those ice related issues aren't of great concern to you, then the fridge is probably worthy of 5 stars based on the abundance of space.
Another simply nitpicky complaint is that there's no dedicated "deli" drawer for cheese, meats, etc. With all the space though, including in the door it's not a problem.
The temperature absolutely gets as cold as you want or need, but give it a few days. It's so large it will take some time to really reach it's peak level of coolness.
Having had it now over a month, we think it's great, but a few tweaks to the design wouldn't hurt, but if you can live with all the things I mentioned you'll likely love it too.

nice front view, easy to store any thing and great power consumption.
