JUST SPENT HOURS TRYING TO GET THIS TO WORK Posted by: from: on After spending hours trying to get this to recognize on my windows 10 PC, im giving up and returning it to Best Buy. i googled to no end for similar issues, followed the directions, downloaded the drivers, and dashboards, and still it will not show up for me to open the window and transfer files onto it. all i wanted was an external hard drive to save files, and instead got another thing to stress over and waste my time trying to get to work...as a new mom, i dont have time for this mess...if you pay the money for something, especially as simple as this, you should be able to plug it in and it works. very disappointed, and i plan on trying a different brand.if windows 10 is the problem, seagate should update their product.

Excellent portable drive overall. Posted by: from: Los Angeles, CA on I decided to go with this portable drive because it was slim, portable, and the newest drive out which now included mobile backup as clearly listed on the box and on Seagate's website. However, I've had the drive for about a week and I still can't figure out how to backup my iOS device. The website clearly states that iOS devices are supported and that all there is to do is download the "Seagate Mobile Backup" app which doesn't even exist in the Apple store. This drive comes with a very convenient dashboard software which is great and easy to backup PC files, but it doesn't give any instructions or options for mobile backup. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the drive's performance. In the meanwhile, I'll backup my iPhone's photos manually which is not a big deal. Maybe Seagate will update its dashboard soon to include the mobile capabilities. Highly recommended drive to store your social network photos and personal files. Hopefully "Instagram" becomes a supported social network backup. If anybody figures it out, please respond to the review. Thank you, -Diana

Be Warned. My drive died after 2 months. Posted by: from: Jenkintown, PA on I bought this drive 2 months ago and it's already dead. I bought it to back up all of my photos, documents, videos and music. I think I used about 45 gigs of the terabyte and it died. My PC (and the 3 other PC's I've tried) no longer recognizes the drive when I plug it in. The last 11 years of my digital life is being held hostage on this broken machine. If you have any data that you care about, I would put it on another product. I'm trying to recovery what information I can from the internet and friends right now. There is nothing I know of that can either restore my lost data or my faith in this product. The product is under warranty but they require the old drive before they give me a new one. I am not willing to let the sensitive information trapped on the drive fall into any one else's hands. Besides, I don't want another drive so that I can worry about the day that it too fails.

Overpriced junk. Posted by: from: Missouri on First off, I purchased this to replace a five-year-old WD that only had 500 GB. Big mistake. The software needed for this to operate in a Windows OS simply doesn't work. I have had to delete it and reinstall it on a weekly basis to keep from getting error messages that it has shut down. And this is going back to when I purchased the thing six months ago. Second, when I transferred data into this, I lost several years' worth of critical legal documents. Yes I was able to rescan them from hard copies--but I should not have had to if this thing had functioned properly. Contacting Seagate's tech support was an exercise in futility as they never responded. I have since replaced it with a new WD Passport and put the Seagate to the only useful purpose it really has--a target for a Sig Sauer. The only reason this gets one star is because I had to give it something. Really, it deserves no stars.

Good drive, not cross platform compatible Posted by: from: Columbus, OH on I bought this drive to use as a work drive. I teach Photography at two different schools and work off of my own laptop. My personal laptop is a PC, both schools use Mac. This drive is advertised as being cross compatible for both platforms so I bought it. When I tried to use it on a Mac I couldn't access anything on it or add anything to it. I called Seagate and they told me the only way to use it on Mac is to download a software that will read the drive. This is not feasible for me as I work at two schools and could be accessing anywhere from 10-20 different computer stations not to mention neither IT department is going to let me download this software to any machines. Basically, I would have returned the drive but it was past the return date of 15 days and the package was opened. I took the drive to the IT department at one of the schools and they formatted the drive to XFAT and it's been fine ever since. Why can't the drives just be sold this way in the first place??? I have referred all my students with similar to do the same thing.

Does the job Posted by: from: on No problems here. What you see is what you get. Purchased for additional storage to clear space on my MacBook. The MacBook had a lot of photos taking up a lot of space so after talking to the Best Buy sales associate this backup was the way to go.

Great storage component for Xbox 1 Posted by: from: on I was looking for more storage for my Xbox, the Sales Rep at Bestbuy showed me this and it is great and small. It just literally plugged into the Xbox1 and immediately was recognized.

external hd Posted by: from: on I picked this item up today as a device to store my German Soaps on. I got it home out of the box and it never showed up as a usable drive. It never initiated the auto play function. It popped up in my camera and printers area. I was never able to access it or store anything on it. So I went to Seagate, they made me register it which I did. The software to install it was on their page and it didn't work. The dashboard application told me I could not use it because I didn't have a second Seagate drive. So I installed a paragon application for windows from the site. Did a restart and it just looped, restarting over and over. So now I'm reformatting, all my music, videos, games, documents, all gone. This trash is going right back to best buy tomorrow.

Do not buy! Buy a more sturdy BACKUP DRIVE! Posted by: from: on Please do not buy. I was able to store my files on this device, but I was unable to encrypt the drive. An employee stated that I could encrypt, but I never had an option to do so. Once I backed up my system, I pulled the drive. I unfortunately dropped the backup device, maybe half of a foot from the ground is how far the drop was... not too high at all. My PC was unable to recognize the drive. I downloaded software called "Paragon" from the manufacturing company's website. Well, this software just made everything worse. I was unable to boot my PC!! Awesome! I was left with a useless PC and a useless external hard drive that still contained my files... wow!
