Great handheld without the battery woes
Posted by: GoDetTigers from: Royal Oak, MI on
I bought this to replace/supplement my Dyson handheld. I was having some battery issues where the Dyson would randomly shut off and sometimes not even turn on. I personally love the concept of these new handhelds and was very pleased with the power and versatility of this model. And of course, the price was definitely a huge plus.
Comparing the Shark Rocket with the Dyson handheld, here is how it breaks down. Carpet goes to the Shark Rocket, the corded power of the brush head had the Dyson destroyed when it came to carpets. Hard floors was a pretty easy win for the Dyson, the Shark has a hard floor attachment but it requires a cleaning pad that needs to be washed after pretty much every use and the brush head doesn't clean hard floors that well. Ease of use goes to the Dyson hands down, no cords and no need to say more. Price is a clear cut win for the Shark, almost 100% as good as the Dyson for less than 50% of the price...
These are the only two real contenders for the new class of handheld uprights and the only reason to buy the Dyson over the Shark is for the cordless convenience, but that's only if that convenience is worth about an extra $100-200.

great preformance for a handheld vacuum
Posted by: ejs2 from: huntington station, ny on
I found this handheld vacuum to be easy to use. When I was unpacking the box it was like Christmas with all the great attachments. They even provide a bag to store the attachments. It is sturdy unlike other handhelds. The motor is powerful for the size and suction is amazing. I had just vacuumed a rug with another more expensive vacuum and was astounded by the amount of dirt that was picked up by the Shark Rocket. The self-propelled attachment is fantastic. It made vacuuming seem effortless. I love this vacuum!

Better than Dyson...
Posted by: Matty2610 from: State College, PA on
OK, so I have always been a Dyson fan, in the same way that I am an Apple fan and would NEVER EVER buy a windows PC EVER. So when it was time to get a new vacuum cleaner, I went directly to the Dyson selection. My most recent Dyson was a cylinder style animal and I have enjoyed using this model with the exception of emptying the canister - oh dear god, what a pain in the butt that is . There is no way to empty the cylinder of this unit without getting completely covered in the dirt that you have just extracted from your home. I hate emptying the cylinder, so when when I was shown the Shark Rocket, I was intrigued by the apparent ease of cylinder emptying. However, I was skeptical that the Shark could compete with the suction of my Dyson Animal. However, I decided to give the Shark a chance, particularly since it was less than half the price of any Dyson in the store. I am converted, I never thought anything could compete with a Dyson, but I was wrong, this Shark is fantastic, not only is it lighter and easier to use that the Dyson, it is so simple to empty and less than half the price. I am so happy with my Shark. That said, it remains highly unlikely that I will ever consider buying a PC, but as far as vacuums go, I have switched to Shark!

GREAT VACUUM FOR ELDERLY!!!
Posted by: JayDoubleUGee from: Houston, TX on
So I don't write many reviews (selfish of me I know), but I'm hoping this will help someone who's looking for a vacuum for the same reason I was. My grandmother is 85 and still going strong, but was having a hard time keeping up with her floors - hard floors and carpet. I was initially looking for a light vacuum to help her with her carpet, and figured I'd tackle a solution for her hard floors next. I was about to buy an Oreck Magnesium from a local Oreck retailer, when I stopped by Best Buy and saw this Shark Rocket. I figured what the hell, I'll buy it and at the very least she can use it in place of a broom and dust pan if it doesn't live up to all it's hype and marketing as a powerful carpet vacuum. Well, I can tell you this thing is AWESOME. I was utterly AMAZED at what this small vacuum pulled out of her carpet. SHE was amazed at how light and easy it was for her to maneuver. It basically just pulls itself across the carpet, and glides across her hard floors. Some other reviewers have pointed out how small the trash bin is. While I agree, I can say in this case it's not an issue. In my grandmother's words, and I quote.."I will gladly empty this thing an extra time or two in exchange for how wonderfully easy it is for my old arthritic hands and arms to push around"
I can't emphasize enough how exited she was. After seeing that excitement and realizing how hard these types of tasks become on the elderly, I would buy this thing if it cost 3 times what it does.
So, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if you have older parents or grandparents and are looking for a vacuum that will make their lives a little easier, please consider this one. On a side note, I was so impressed I'm buying one for my own home....and I already own both a full size Dyson and a Dyson digital slim.

A great Vacuum for a house with stairs
Posted by: ProfessorBrandon1 from: Charlotte, NC on
I saw the infomercial on TV from Shark for this vacuum and was very interested. However, I'm not one to order directly from the TV without getting to put my hands on it and touch it first. So, when I noticed that BestBuy was selling these, I went to check it out. I'm glad I made the purchase!
I have carpeted stairs in my house and two dogs that shed profusely. So, I was looking for something light enough to maneuver up and down stairs, but that also had the suction and rotating bristles to actually pick up the hair. I must say, I have a very expensive Dyson Pet Vacuum, but I think this has just as much suction and picks up even more hair than my Dyson. Although that is just an anecdotal opinion, you can tell that I am very impressed!
I only have 2 issues at this point: If you vacuum the entire house (as I did), the vacuum can begin to get a little heavy. After all, the motor is in your hands. Also, I had to empty the dirt tray about 7 times as I cleaned my house, and each time I got dirt on my hands. Not a huge deal, but it was a bit annoying. I understand its a give and take...if the tray was bigger it would be heavier, etc...
I think this is a great deal. It rivals the much more expensive ultra-light vacuums, and in my opinion, outperforms them. If you have pets and stairs, this is a must!

Almost too powerful
Posted by: Gingergirl62 from: Chicago, IL on
When using on carpet, it almost pulls you along too fast. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, except it is top heavy with all the weight in your hand and your hand gets tired- and I consider myself a strong person. The hardwood floor attachment is easier to control but when you have it flat on the floor, it is more like using a Swiffer, and you have to lift it up ever so slightly to get it to actually suck up some dirt/hair/dust. I like that it flaps open to empty, but then you have to reach your hand inside to pull the majority of the dirt out. It's unavoidable.
I still like it, but even though it is a "light weight" vacuum, the majority of the weight is in your hand. When stopping to move furniture etc,, you can't simply stand it on end. You have to set it down on the floor or hold it the whole time.

Awesome vacuum at awesome price!
Posted by: LoneStarFamily5 from: Dallas, TX on
I am LOVING my Shark Rocket Upright Light. I have had the Dyson Cordless stick vac on my wish list ever since I used it at my sister-in-laws house a couple of years ago. I just loved how light and compact it was. The fact that it was cordless made it super easy to use, but also limited it to the amount of time it could be used at one time. And the price tag was always an obstacle to get over. I saw the Shark Rocket Light while I was looking at the Dyson and became instantly curious about it. I have the Shark Navigator Lift Away and love it so if the Shark Rocket Light was anything like my lift away, I knew I would love it too. Well, it is and I do!
The suction is powerful, it's super light to use as a vacuum, super easy to use the attachments on blinds, furniture, etc., love that I can clean all floor surfaces with the same vacuum by just switching the brush roller off, and the small head can reach around and in between small corners and furniture. It's so light I just lift it over some furniture to vacuum behind it. I don't even have to move it. It's also great for vacuuming the stairs as is. The head is compact and swivels so you don't even need to use the attachment if you don't want to.
I still use my larger Shark Navigator Lift Away for weekly cleaning when I'm cleaning the whole house because of the larger dust cup, but for daily touch-ups or cleaning single rooms, it's a dream.
My only complaint is that because the cord is attached to the main handle/motor/dust cup, you have to carry the long cord when you are emptying the dust cup, which I do in the garage trash. It's not really a complaint, but more of an inconvenience. However, it's an inconvenience I can live with.

Not good enough.....
Posted by: GoBucksMetsGiants from: NJ on
I bought this vacuum for my 700 sq ft office. I'm 34 and 150lbs man, and this vacuum makes me feel out of shape. 90% of the weight is in your hand. 7.5lb in the specification is deceiving. Because of the length of stick, your arm is raised. Combined with back and forth motion, it feel like 25lb dumbbell half way through the room. It is loud and weak compare to more expensive vacuum, But for $160, I don't have a problem since it does the job. I would keep this vacuum if it wasn't so heavy. Also, it can't stand alone, so it is hard to store in the office closet.

Great multipurpose Vacuum with amazing suction p
Posted by: kppat from: Frisco, TX on
It is the absolute best all in one cleaner to have at home , which can be used with ease of use. We absolutely loved it , and the suction power is indeed what they vouch for. We have hard wood floors and the dust away attachment is so perfect for cleaning the same. We also tried the Dusting brush for the Stairs, and now Stairs are not a nightmare to clean......

Best Vacuum I've Ever Owned!!
Posted by: Sandy from: on
I've been looking for a lightweight, inexpensive vacuum that will pick up pet hair for a long time. I watched a video review on this and thought it might be the one. I was so impressed I immediately called Best Buy, paid by phone, jumped in my car, and picked it up. I am so glad I did!!
-Extremely lightweight and maneuverable (would be great for an older person)
-Extremely powerful...quickly picks up that cat hair. Works better then the much more expensive vacuum I gave away after getting this one
-Small, narrow, swivel power head fits just about anywhere (it fits under my dresser which has a 4" floor clearance)
-Long power cord
-Easy to empty and clean
-Easy to store (it has hardware so you can hang it. I have so much more closet space now)
-Cleans high areas such as ceiling fans easily
-Beater bar turns off for bare floors
-It came with nice attachments
-The price is right!!
I couldn't be happier with this vacuum and look forward to vacuuming my house now. It's actually fun to use it! I can vacuum my entire house quickly without getting tired or getting a backache... even my 14 step staircase!
There is only one small thing. It won't stand up on it's own. However it leans nicely in a standing position against the wall without falling and even has rubber on the back to protect the wall.
*I highly recommend this vacuum. It would make a nice gift also!!
