2 years before first problem, but great warranty
Posted by: Mike from: on
We've had this vacuum for 2 years and just encountered our first problem. This has been perfect for our family (6 kids and 2 dogs) and has cleaned up well in every circumstance, from kids crumbs everywhere to dog hair. The attachments make it nice too--helpful for getting into corners, under furniture and cleaning stairs. The base removes and re-attaches easily as well turning it from upright to canister.
So, our problem. All was well until the power roller brush quit working. I took apart the base to clean it, make sure all was connected, and the belt was in tact. No issues, just not working.
Called customer service and talked to someone from the US--big plus for me and very helpful. And within 10 minutes of walking through the problem (which they have to do, but felt like the IT guy at the office asking if I "restarted" yet), and collecting info they came through. New base in the mail, return label emailed. All I have to do is send the base off and wait for the new one.
Very pleased with a company that backs their warranty and makes it easy to use at the same time.
Would highly recommend!

Horrible Customer Service
Posted by: RBoysenberry from: on
This is a great vacuum supposedly with a 5 year warrenty. It broke after 2 months. I called Shark, was told they'd replace it. They sent an entirely different (cheaper) model which I didn't want. I told them this, they said, 'it's in the warrenty; we can replace it with a similar vacuum if the first one isn't made anymore'. I told them this isn't the one I bought, it doesn't have the features I need. The new and improved replacement model for the one I bought does but is more expensive. They said 'too bad thats all we can do'.
Their vacuums are great, their customer service and warrenty are totally worthless.
I brought it back to the Costco where I bought it - they had more in stock and replaced it.
Even tho I love the vacuum I will never deal with this company or buy a Shark again. They have no integrity.

Lasted 4 months!

I would not recommend this product to anyone because even with a 5 year warranty you have to pay for shipping and handling of a defective item! This will at least cost you 40.00+. And good luck getting any supervisor on the phone while trying to contact a shark representative. They will refuse you and give u a million excuses including they are in a meeting, unable to talk to you for whatever reason. Spent over an hour on the phone with 10 different representatives who refuse to give their supervisor. I will never buy a shark product again!

Best One Yet

This is another stellar Shark. This seems to be their best one. They are rated the highest in the industry for a reason. Great suction. Easy to dump and clean. The canister latches are strong. The bucket holds a lot. Easy to maneuver. The attachments work good. The nozzle brush roller seem lightweight but very durable. Great suction. Pet hair no problem. There were issues with other models on the bucket latches and nozzle brush roller but it seems fine. Long cord. Easy to clean filters.

"One of the best vacuum cleaners"
Posted by: Eric from: Maryland on
I had bought this vacuum cleaner for my mother. She absolutely loves it. Out of the box assembly was pretty straight forward. She was a little confused at first but once I showed her she has no issue with it anymore. For the price versus other vacuums this one is by far exceeding our expectations, with phenomenal performance, attachments for about any situation, easy cleanup or emptying the canister, and the ability to disconnect the floor cleaner and carry around the canister with you. The allergen filters are all easily accessible for cleaning. On top of that it is very lightweight and versatile. All of it is backed by a 5 year guarantee from the manufacturer. If you don't mind spending a little more for a vacuum cleaner than most of your streamline ones I would highly recommend this product.

Great at first, but broke after 8 months
Posted by: EhmGee from: on
When I first bought this vacuum, I loved it. Compared to the old Sears workhorse it replaced, it's extremely lightweight, maneuverable, and seemed to pick up the gobs of pet hair in my house a little better on the hardwood, rugs, and carpet. The filters are easy to access and clean, the headlights are fairly bright, the on-board tools are useful, and the way the vacuum is set up, clogs are pretty easy to unclog. Now, 6 months later, the honeymoon is over. The rollerbrush has stopped spinning so the vacuum still works well on tile and hardwood, but it merely pushes the dog and cat hair into gross piles on the carpets and rugs. I called customer service since the Shark has a 5 year warantee, and they'll fix it for free, but I have to pay them $20 to ship it there and $20 for return shipping. Of course, I didn't save the box so I'd also have to go to the store to buy a box and packing supplies as well - probably at least another $20 right there. A quick internet search shows that this has been a known problem with these vacuums for several years. It's extremely disappointing that Shark continues to manufacture these models without fixing this issue.

Wow...I didn't know how bad my last vacuum was
Posted by: SPE654 from: on
I had a D-brand vacuum that everyone loves. When I purchased this Shark based on a coworker's recommendation I was blown away by how much it picked up where I had just vacuumed. This really picks up a lot. It is very versatile with multiple ways to disconnect the extension section and I like the buttons for activating the brush and vacuum power. The switches are much better than the other brand. Depending on where you buy this, you get different accessories. This one comes with everything but the under-appliance wand as far as I can tell.
If you need a vacuum, this is the best one I have used to date.

worst customer service ever!
Posted by: amber5252 from: on
i would give no stars if that was an option because of the warranty and customer service!
8 months after purchasing this item it will no longer power on. clearly still in the 5yr warranty we are offered to have it fixed. we pay shipping to them which ever method we see fit and pay $20 for return shipping. i don't have a box to return this in!! nor am i interested in paying shipping wither way for a product UNDER WARRANTY!!! the other option is to have a replacement sent for a "fraction of the price" our total for a replacement with shipping and tax is $101 and we will have it "on our door step" in three days. after being absolutely POd about the situation we are in with a product UNDER WARRANTY we decided on the replacement because shipping the current one back is a huge hassle! Shark should have sent us a shipping label and paid for the return. this would leave us the PITA to find a box that i would have groveled about but not complained any further than to my spouse.
i call back to pay the $101 and have my replacement in 3 days and guess what!?!? THEY ARE ON BACK ORDER FOR 6-8 WEEKS!!! this is absolutely unacceptable and asinine customer service! i will NEVER EVER purchase a shark again by the off chance something goes wrong!

LOVE LOVE LOVE
Posted by: verstsurf from: Houston, TX on
I am totally in love with this vacuum and I have had my fair share of them. I love the lights, the edge suction works really well, lots of accessories and the unit is very versatile to suit your needs. My only 'con' would be that the hose is not all that long....and when using it, the main unit will easily fall over. Not that big of a deal and I am thinking it will be better once the hose gets stretched out a little bit more. I could have gone with another model of the Shark that had a longer hose but was lacking the 'edge cleaning'. And to me...having a vacuum that had the power to suck up stuff along the baseboards without getting the hose out, was much more important.
The first time I vacuumed with the Shark...I could not believe how much MORE stuff it picked up right after I vacuumed with my old one.

Bought a $450 Dyson Animal Vacuum that was declared to be the best out there. After only using it a few times, the functionally started to decline!
After reviewing the online ratings for the Shark, this vacuum has exceeded all expectations!
Will definitely recommend to family & friends!
