The SideClick is such an improvement for me! Previously, if I was watching something on the Roku, I had to control playback with the Roku remote, the volume with my soundbar remote, and TV power with the TV remote. A universal remote would have solved two of those problems, but as I have the Roku mounted behind the TV, I had no line-of-sight to the box and had to continue using the separate Bluetooth remote.
Setting up the remote was a breeze, as it's learning, so there are no codes to try and retry and retry until you get it right. (This may be a problem if you don't have your original remotes.) The fit and finish is top-notch, and looks completely natural next to the Roku remote.
If I have to nitpick, pressing the power button at just the right angle can give enough leverage to cause the remote sleeve to pop off. Also, the SideClick covers the headphone jack on the Roku remote, but I personally don't use that feature, so it's not an issue for me. My kids use it, and they just pop the adapter off and snap it back on afterwards.
Overall, a fantastic idea and a top-notch product.

It's ok, not a five star
Posted by: RokuBob from: on
A 5 star product?? Umm ... No.
I was thrilled that a gadget like this even existed so I ordered it within minutes of reading all the rave reviews.
It is very easy to setup? You bet, point click, click. Very cool I wish all remotes were this easy.
It covers the earphone jack, I don't like that but I can live with it because I don't use the headphones much anyway.
I love the simplicity of the Roku remote. The obvious problem no audio control add this and you solve that problem. The rub is that it feels flimsy and is easily knocked off my Roku4 remote. Maybe if I use a zip tie to strap them together it would feel more stable
At the end of the day, Is it better than dealing with two remotes? I guess time will tell, but it's definitely not a 5 star product. That rating should be reserved for truly exceptional products, this is not one of those ... at least not yet

Excellent and streamlined

I ordered this product through the kickstarter campaign because my remote broke. When we got the SideClick we realized we needed a working remote to set it up. We bought a $5 universal remote and programmed the SideClick in 5 minutes. Super easy set up.
We lobe the SideClick and now we only have one remote to watch our favorite shows.

I bought 9 of them
Posted by: TRose from: on
I thought the idea was so obvious, but the design and integration made it seem genius, to put the functions you need from your television remote onto my Apple TV, Roku, and Fire TV. Even the thought to make the adapter the variable part so that switching devices was as easy as putting on a new adapter, rather then buying a whole new unit. The extra ones I bought were for presents, they were perfect for people that never knew they needed or wanted them... I get told regularly how much my family and extended family loves theirs, and how it makes it easier for everyone from children to grandparents. It has a very intuitive programing function that makes setup a breeze, and even easy to just change the functionality of one button with out starting all over.
Anyway I was an original backer from the first and second campaign on Kickstarter, this is a good product, made by good people, that had a solution to a modern day catch 22 (can I use my Roku if I can't find my TV remove), and turned it into a well made, thoughtfully designed, durable product that can survive the destructive capabilities of young children. Even my wife who complains about every purchase or new thing in the house... Thinks it's great, and anything that pleases a 9 month pregnant women without sugar, deserves a prestigious award. Perhaps in this case that award should be your leap of faith to try it.

A great add-on for Roku Remote
Posted by: xjonx from: Baltimore on
I was an original backer of the Sideclick both the first round that failed and the second round that was successful. It has turned out to be a great addition to my home theater. Now there is no more looking for the TV remote when the TV wants to turn off for power savings in the middle of a movie. No more switching to the AVR remote to change the volume or mute. I really like how ALL the buttons can be program to what ever device/function you want. I would warn anyone reading this review that: 1} the buttons can be kind of stiff and pressing too hard can cause the Sideclick to pop off (be careful), and 2} there are several clips in the box for different styles of Roku remotes. The instructions didn't really specify which one was which but I can assure you that, for the Roku 3 at least, there is one that fits perfect. If yours doesn't, try a different one.

Great add-on for Roku remote
Posted by: Allen from: on
I am sort of a gadget freak and so, as a result, I have numerous remote controls laying around. I have used several unified remotes but the simplicity of the Roku remote can't be beat and it is the thing I use most. That said, being able to simultaneously control things like TV volume and input source without looking for the TV remote is a very convenient thing. Give this cool little add-on some serious consideration. I thing I have saved at least 2 hours of my life (in 2-3 second increments) by not having to switch remotes.

fantastic addition for any streaming device

I bought a SideClick for my AppleTV, one for my Roku, and one for my Amazon Fire. Have absolutely loved using all of them, as it allows me to set aside my bulky AV receiver remote that I used to have to keep around (and have in the other hand to change the volume) when using these devices. As an added bonus, with smaller remotes like the AppleTV or Fire stick, I think it actually makes the remote more ergonomic and fit in my hand. Love that the buttons are all programmable, and that it's super easy to set up.

Almost but not quite

Great concept but not very useful. Blocking the phone jack not cool. Does not have much of a range.

Excellent addition to my Roku remote
Posted by: Cory from: on
Once I read reviews of the Sideclick remote attachment, I knew I wanted one. I was looking for a new remote for my TV because many of the buttons on my OEM remote had stopped functioning. The Sideclick was just what I needed because I can operate most functions I use on my TV without adding another remote to my space. The set-up was quick and easy, and I haven't had a problem using it. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because I wish it had a mute function. Other than that, it is perfect.

Exactally what I needed

I have had the Sideclick for a few months now and it is exactly what I needed, simple universal remote attached right to my Roku remote. Easy to program and quality buttons. Thanks Sideclick!
