First of all, I research any and everything to death. I want to make sure I get a deal and that I'm buying a quality item. I went to best buy and listened to these as well as the competitors and was not blown away by anything. However it is important to note that speakers sound different to different people and auditioning speakers is essential in buying speakers. Knowing the great reviews and best buys return policy I decided to buy them and try them out in my household. I bought two play ones so I could play them as a pair; left and right channel. Needless to say I'm very happy with the sound, ease of use, set up and look. I'll be keeping these for sure. I also like that I can expand on this system over the years. Very easy to stream music from my iMac and iPhone to these as well as use my iPad/iPhone to control them remotely. If your on the fence with these, I suggest you try them out in your house and see what it does for you. Again, I wasn't blown away with the sound in the store, they sounded ok. But best buy is huge with lots of noises and customers/distractions. Hope this helps.

Small speaker but BIG sound!
Posted by: luvinman from: New Orleans on
I did not think such a small speaker could deliver such great sound. Honestly, I bought it with all intentions of bringing it back. I did not think it would sound as nice as the Play 3 and 5 I already have. But after connecting it to my existing Sonos system, doing the software update (easypeasy) and giving it a test drive....SOLD. Sonos can get expensive, seriously, but you get what you pay for.

MOST AMAZING SPEAKER MUSIC SYSTEM EVER!
Posted by: StacyandKids from: on
This Is Much More Than A Basic speaker. It links to your wifi and smart phones and u have access to music and radio stations all over the world. You can listen to radio stations in Antarctica, Russia, or anywhere in the world! So amazing that we're gradually buying one for each room in the house. The Play 1 speaker is great for a bedroom or bathroom. Go with the bigger one for the larger rooms in the house. We actually set up 2 speakers in the family room and they link to make stereo left and right. Truly the best system I ever had.

I got one of these to try and out and eventually to get a second to add to my existing Playbar for Surround Speakers. Anyone know Sonos will not be surprised by the quality of this item even the packaging is impressive.
I had a little issue that may have been self inflicted with set up that require me to reboot my Bridge and Playbar but once I did set up went through quickly and easily.
While this might seem a little pricy but the quality of this player as well as the whole Sonos ecosystem is well worth it. The sound quality of this little guy is extremely impressive and is on par with my Play 5s. I would highly recommend getting giving one a try, they have a very generous return policy.

It's not often I'm compelled to write reviews on line, but in this case I felt like I need to let you know about my Sonos experience. I purchased a Play:1 and bridge together as a package. I've been interested in the system for a while, but the cost and uncertainty of the sound quality have been holding me back (I really like quality stereo gear). I finally decided to dip my toe in with the cheapest option I could. Within 15 minutes of unpacking I had it working. I am amazed at the sound quality - The sound from the Play:1 is much better than I anticipated. Right now I only have the radio set up, but it's awesome. The interface on my Iphone is very intuitive and easy. It's not going to replace my Hi-Fi system, but for casual listening - it's really nice. I highly recommend it. I'm going to save up and get another Play:1 for a stereo pair, and maybe a lot more!

Simple setup, great quality, amazing sound!

I purchased 2 of these speakers to start off with. Let's just say that I'm so happy with SONOS and their speakers than I now have 4 Play1 speakers, a soundbar, and a subwoofer... and I am planning on purchasing more!!!
It is EXTREMELY easy to setup. Just plug into power, install controller app on phone/computer, and connect. To add more speakers, you plulg in the power, go into the app and hit "Add a speaker" and it'll do everything!
The quality of the sound is amazing for a tiny speaker. What surprised me the most is the quality of the bass. It has fairly good bass for the cheapest speaker in the lineup.
Range all depends on your wifi setup. I have a very strong router with amazing range, so it reaches throughout my entire house, even across the street.
Overall, I'm more than happy. Several drawbacks:
- Cost. at $200 a speaker, they add up real quick
- No bluetooth connectivity. I wish I could just connect with my phone or other bluetooth device and play the audio through that. For example, my Bose sound system had bluetooth connectivity, and I could connect my phone with it and play games with the sound system playing the audio. SONOS system is limited to playing audio from within the app (such as pandora, music files, etc)
- Power outlet required. This speaker is wireless, except for needing a power outlet. I wish it came with the option to put in some batteries. I want to put some of these speakers outside in my backyard during parties, but there's no outlets nearby.

I love sonos.

This is my 6th sonos product. I love the system and knew I would want a play:1 for the bathroom as soon as it was released. Sonos isn't the least expensive brand in this arena, but it provides good value for me. I think I would go for 2 play:1's over a play:3.

great sound at areasonable price

I was not sure that the sound quality in a compact product like this was going to be what I needed. Based on other Sonos product experience I decided to give it a try. For the price point this has excellent size and the small size lets it fit in anywhere in your house.

I got into Sonos because I wanted a speaker in my bathroom. I ended up putting it in the kitchen so I bought another one for the bathroom. That one ended up in my bedroom. Well now I've got a pair that covers a good portion of the house. A Play 5 sure would sound nice in the living room to round it out. Ah yes and certainly there could be some more bass so I'll get the woofer. So what I'm trying to say here is that 1 speaker purchase turned into a whole system essentially and has the room to keep growing. They sound awesome, function very well and I love being able to start things like Pandora and whatever and not need to have a computer open. 5 stars all around on these speakers.
Eventually I'll get that bathroom speaker....probably after the soundbar.
