Good headset for the price
Posted by: Dval from: Clarksville, TN on
Picked these up last night as they just arrived in our stores yesterday. I've never been a big fan of headsets as I usually just listen to my games through a 2 speaker/1 sub system, but when I saw these coming out for just $99.99, I figured that I might give headsets a try. My brother lives and dies by his Tritons, but they also cost me over $200 when I bought them for him a couple years back.
By no means are these a perfect headset, however, for under $100 and being wireless, they're very nice. I've found some things that I really like as well as a few that I'm not as sure about. Keep in mind that I don't really do online gaming much, so I can't comment on the hidden microphone and chat capabilities.
Great sound quality. I'd more call it a true 5.1 with a virtual 7.1 system capability. The sounds and music come through very clearly and I can easily tell which side they're coming from. It feels like the vocals are only coming from the right and the music is predominately the left, though.
Sleek, compact design. These have a collapsing design for easy transport and safety. They even come with a nice little satin bag to store them in. Charges through a supplied micro USB cable. I love the black outer cover and the medium hue blue on the inside.
PS3/PS4 compatible. I've got both systems and it works well on each of them.
Fading sounds. Whenever there's a transition from one background to another in games, I notice that the music goes very low or stutters for about 2 seconds. Almost seems like there's a response issue for it.
Charging cable. The microUSB cable is only about a foot long. Luckily, it's a standard cable and I can just use the one for my phone instead.
Size adjustments. I'm sure it's been tested and it's durable, but the sliding ear pieces have caught a few times when I was adjusting them. Not a huge thing, but it's something I wanted to note. Got 2 years of GSP in case something happens to them.
Overall, I'm definitely happy with the headset and I'll start using them over my speaker system for gaming from now on. At this price point, it's definitely worth trying out.

Great Headset that exceeds it's price!

I'm really impressed by Sony's Gold Wireless headset. The 7.1 virtual surround sound is crisp and clear. For those who need extra bass, there's a bass mode (#2 by the power button). I play a lot of Battlefield 4 on the PS4 and you can hear every step from all directions. The headset is easy to use as well. It's as simple as plugging in the USB dongle and powering on your headset. The PS4/3 will automatically recognize the headset. Voice chat is really good and the noise cancelling works really good as well. I was laying right next to my newborn with guns blazing and he didn't make one peep. You can also call out voice commands to the PS4 via the headset. This is definitely the best bang for your buck and will only get better when the companion app arrives February 22. Astro A50's are good, but I couldn't notice a $250 difference.

Awesome Wireless Headset

I really like these headphones I picked them up today and previously owned the pulse headphones. I like the pulse headphones but they dont work very well with ps4 even after the update to 1.60. These work much better and you can use them with anything even a pc because they are wired and wireless.

Pretty good, one minor issue I've had
Posted by: hellothere from: NYC on
Picked this up at my local best buy store and I have to say, it is perfect and for the price, you can't go wrong. The only minor issue I had is I wish they could have make it a little bigger (I have HUGE head and it kinda fit tight on me). Overall, I'm happy with it.

I was really surprised to find these at Best Buy the other night when many retailers are still listing them as a pre-order. I'll admit, I have always been a little sceptical about headsets. I never really saw what the big deal was. However, I thought I would try these out. I am completely satisfied with them so far. Trust me when I say this, for the price, this headset is more than worth the it.

Can't go wrong for $99
Posted by: JodieAiden from: Syracuse, NY on
For the price, this is an absolute must buy. The virtual surround sound is excellent for people who have roommates or family members in the house to keep noise down. Battery life is decent, but it charges extremely quickly. The chat quality is top-notch as well, and the microphone is hidden as well. I'm also excited to try out the custom sound modes for certain games (via an app to be released in the future). It is very stylish and portable, and even comes with a nice carrying pouch.
And if nothing else, it is great just to use as a regular pair of headphones for your Vita, smartphone, tablet or anything with a headphone jack. Highly recommended headset.

Big heads beware!
Posted by: Dave from: on
I've had this headset since release and it finally broke today. this headset has a flaw and that flaw is having a folding option, and because of this folding option it has a weak spot at the bending part its only held together by two little plastic pieces, so if you have a big head you'll most likely stretch the little plastic pieces and they will snap over time as mine did. so big heads beware! I don't know why we would need to fold our headsets in the first place, but because of this my headset is held together by duck tape. The other reason not to get this headset is when you go wireless mode the audio is complete garbage, and then when its wired its really good audio but you can't use any of the buttons while wired, cant mute your mic, change volume etc. waste of money in my opinion.

Hate to say i told you so...But

Just like i said in Sony Pulse review, these headset IMO are way better than the Sony Pulse, the only key feature missing is the rumble feature which is something we can live without. In my last review under the Sony Pulse elite i predicted the price to be around $120 and its actually cheaper. The way these headsets were made by sony pretty much has no crack issue (google sony pulse crack headset if you dont know what im talking about) the 7.1 and 5.1 is a welcome feature and even though i think the sony pulse looks cooler in design i like that these headset matches my Ps4. Keep in mind that if you can play the waiting game sony will becoming out with other/better headset hence the name gold.

Great Headset, Just Like the Others
Posted by: TheGamingGod786 from: on
I have used the original Wireless stereo headset, the pulse elites, and now these, the gold wireless stereo headsets. Picked them up at my local best buy, and they sound amazing, they were built with quality in mind, and Sony definitely delivered. No more cracking issues like with the elites, and the only thing missing is the rumble feature, but that was not that useful anyway. The extra battery is a plus, and the design is sleek and simple, (currently wearing them while I'm out shopping). Of course, these are "gold" so I expect them to make Platinums in the summer, and if they keep this up, I will purchase those two. I love their products.
