Awesome music by three gifted musicians

Band of Skulls will someday be mentioned in the same breath with great trios like: ZZTop; Cream; Crosby, Stills and Nash; and Emerson, Lake and Palmer... who I saw do Brain Salad Surgery in 1974. My wife and I saw Band of Skulls on Dec. 9th 2009 at Bimbo's 365 Club in San Francisco, and stood against the stage dead center. We have spent nearly 60 years loving great music and great musicianship and we were floored by Band of Skulls. Since then we have heard them on Ford Mustang commercials, The Twilight Saga, commercials, and AMC TV shows. Their first album; Baby Darling Doll Face Honey is simply put... brilliant. Sweet Sour is a wonderful second album. I was apprehensive... you know how second efforts can be hard to live up to great firsts. But Sweet Sour is super. Bruises... won't leave me alone. It was the sound track to a dream I had last night...
"Another reason that you wanna be alive...
Just to watch the bruises heal"
I wrote a review about BOS after the SF gig. I gushed. I said Matt Hayward was another John Bonham. A great drummer. Maybe one of the best. Hyperbole... maybe... except I have seen 3 more comments since then saying the exact same thing. Emma Richardson just makes it all look so simple and easy, and what a voice and delivery. She is granite rock. Flawless bass. But the point of the spear is Russell Marsden. He is: "sick; freakin' nuts; an alien; the sxxt"; to use the modern vernacular. I suspect Russell never plays the same song the same way at any gig, which is borne out by the live recordings the band has released. And I suspect every rendition is something beautiful. The whole crowd in SF was transfixed by BOS... and BOS simply walked away with the night. Google them, check their schedule, (they are paying their dues) and buy their albums. Get both, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!
