New Consoles and Big Games: It's a Gamer's Holiday this Year

Gaming consoles

Get ready, gamers! This year has the potential to be the most exciting holiday season for the industry since the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 debuted in 2013.

Just look at all the new technology hitting the market. There's the Xbox One S, PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation VR.

And those are just the consoles. There are dozens of hot, new games to keep an eye on, too.

Best Buy Blue Shirt gaming experts David Poole, of Pleasant Hill, California, and Luis Quiteno, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, took a moment to share some of the big newsmakers in the gaming world as we head into the holiday shopping season.

Xbox One S

Luis: "Being the most affordable 4K Blu-ray player on the market in addition to being a great gaming console is big. Also, offering 4K and High Dynamic Range for certain video games in the future is what people are looking for."

PlayStation 4 Pro

David: "PlayStation has always done a good job in leading in tech. And this console will upscale most of the games to nearly 4K video resolution as it offers a faster processor and better graphics."

PlayStation VR

David: "It pairs with all the PS4 consoles, so there are millions of gamers who are ready for it. With games like Star Wars Battlefront and Batman: Arkham VR soon offering VR versions for PlayStation VR, it's something you'll want to bring home."

Oculus Rift

Luis: "It's high-quality virtual reality. You'll just need to budget a bit more for it compared with other options. More and more developers are making VR on PC than ever before, and so that's all the more reason to jump on the Oculus VR bandwagon."

What about the games to keep an eye on?

PlayStation VR

David: "It pairs with all the PS4 consoles, so there are millions of gamers who are ready for it. With games like Batman: Arkham VR and an expected VR experience coming for Star Wars Battlefront on PlayStation VR, it's something you'll want to bring home."

David: "Battlefield 1 got a great response from its beta version. And while Call of Duty is going to space with Infinite Warfare, Battlefield 1 is going back to World War I.

"Gears of War 4 is changing its direction, going away from the gore and is focusing more on its storyline, and that should be much more interesting.

"And I can't forget Pokemon Sun and Moon. Pokemon is so big right now, and this edition is changing the overall way the game works and is taking some risks."

Luis: "Titanfall 2 is being introduced to the PlayStation platform this year, putting it in front of new gamers. With a new story and campaign, it'll be fun to see where it goes.

"Then you have Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and that will still be one of the biggest games. But also, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been remastered for 1080p, and people will be looking forward to that big time because Modern Warfare was what everyone loved back in the day. The storyline and multiplayer was well balanced and amazing."
