- 96 page book featuring an extensive selection of cartoons, writings and drawings by Ray Lowry, the Clash's artist in residence
Established in 1976 in London by songwriter-musicians Joe Strummer and Rick Jones, the British rock band The Clash established itself as the definitive punk outfit alongside The Sex Pistols, but blended the genre's hardcore sound with a tough-as-nails leftwing political sentiment and ventured into greater musical experimentation than The Pistols. With less outrageous and self-destructive behavior than the Pistols as well, The Clash lasted longer - much longer, in fact - than Sid Vicious's band, formally wrapping in 1986. Now, the home video release The Clash: Up Close and Personal offers a protracted documentary overview of the group's history and an examination of its enduring musical impact. It features rare, extensive in-concert footage and commentaries by such noteworthy figures as Clash road manager Johnny Green, Clash publicist Catherine Coon and filmmaker Don Letts. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi
