Synopsis

The World of Philip Pullman
Fantasy writer Philip Pullman, best known for authoring the His Dark Materials series of young adult novels, receives a full documentary treatment in the program The World of Philip Pullman: His Life and Works. The core of the film is an extended one-on-one interview with Pullman, scripted by his friend and associate Nicholas Tucker, in which the belletrist discusses the factors in his personal life that have yielded the subject matter and authorial voice inherent in his writing. Pullman also discusses how he came to create such works as The Ruby in the Smoke, Count Karlstein, Lyra's Oxford, Spring-Heeled Jack and many more. This program veers away from discussions of His Dark Materials, as Pullman expostulates on those in the prior documentary Inside His Dark Materials (2005). ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi
