    Synopsis

The second half of Time Tunnel's only season has been produced a little more elaborately than its predecessor. The film-to-video transfers are just as good -- which is far better than the series ever looked on the ABC network or in syndication, with footage lost in syndication that hasn't been seen in 40 years -- and we also get very informative interviews with Robert Colbert, James Darren and Lee Meriwether, all of whom look sensational and tell us a lot about how the show was made; Meriwether's revelation about the shooting schedule is fascinating, and Colbert expresses sincere regret that there was never a second season, because he believes that the show would have been refined conceptually and could have turned into a much more experimental vehicle; that might not be likely, with Irwin Allen in charge as producer/creator, but it is interesting to ponder the possibilities that he brings up; he also saw Time Tunnel as a potential boon to schoolteachers (who did, indeed, report that the series' ventures into different eras of history did lure students in junior high and high school to inquire about what they'd seen). The shooting schedule for him and Darren was grueling, and the idea that he wanted a second season is amazing, as well as revealing a good deal about the actor. The only part of the supplement that should have been by-passed is an interview with co-star Whit Bissell -- the actor suffered from Alzheimer's disease late in life, and it's clear from the short discussion here that his memory was already mostly gone, and rather sad to see. But everything else about this package is well put together and enjoyable. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
