Good but complicated

Posted by: TVJunkie2 from Tempe on 04/04/2016I do the like the skip feature a lot and the fact it helped me in determining my TV Antennae Strength is a great feature. The ability to sort recordings is limited and not really how I would like to see them. The manual did not help at all and I had to go to the internet on numerous occasions to find the answers. Still trying to find answers on how to transfer my shows to my Tablet as it proclaims can be done but so far no luck. I didn't even know how to turn the dang thing off until I googled the question, manual didn't say anything. It doesn't turn off but stays on 24/7, seems that will tough on the lifespan. TV Guide feature is nice but some other features you have to turn off, Tivo thought it would be nice to start recording things it thought I liked without even asking. All in all it is way better than paying $100 per month to have HD Cable, specially when I can find cable based shows on Hulu and Netflex.

TiVo Bolt -- Love it

Should have researched more

Posted by: tiger from Tempe, AZ on 03/30/2016To start, I was so mad at the cable company for another price increase that I pretty much bought this without the usual research. I've had it with cable so I decided to cut the cord but I knew I needed a DVR to record my OTA shows. Though I will miss AMC, TNT, SYFY, USA, TBS and A&E I will have no problem getting the shows I love at a later date with Netflix or Hulu. One thing I won't miss is CNN and the other cable news since all they seem to be talking about is Trump. Anyway, I digress, back to this product. I was able to hook up an HD Antennae with no problem, really was impressed how it gave me the TV Guide pretty much like cable. I never knew there was so much free with OTA stations. That part is nice but what I am not impressed with is the ability to sort my recorded shows or even setting up multiple recordings. Just a preference but I don't binge watch instead I just watch as it is recorded but Tivo likes to put all the shows in folders. It also has a feature which I had to turn off that starts recording everything it thinks I'll like without asking Another thing that gives it a lower rating is the fact I had to google most of answers on how to operate it since the manual was useless and the web site was not much better. The available apps like HBOGO, YouTube are nice but there's not a lot to select from. My smart TV has way more to choose than what it has. It can record 4 shows at once but in HD that's about 90+ 1 hour shows. So if you want more storage you have to buy an external Hard Drive. About the one feature I feel is outstanding is the skip button. Instead of holding down the fast forward until I zoomed through the commercials all I do is hit skip and I'm there. Doesn't work for all the shows but most of them. To summarize I do like it but I doubt I would have purchased it if I had done a bit more research but I would have it as an option. The nicest thing about this is it will be paid for in six months just from what I am saving from cutting the cord.

A great replacement for our Dish TV system

Posted by: Jackscuba from on 03/26/2016We wanted to cut the cable and this seemed to be the best way to do it. I don't like the $15 a month we will have to pay after the first year, BUT, the guide is really great, and the built in DVR system is a must for us. Very easy to use and you don't need any extra equipment. We are completely over the air now with TV, and use internet for everything else. We have been using TIVO for a couple of months now and glad we made the switch.

Love it!

Its suggestions on what to watch saves a lot of time over searching through all the many channels one does not watch. Mini Tivos provides all the options to all the other TVs in the house without extra rental and subscription charges. Saves considerable money over time.

Excellent product

More importantly for us since we don't have cable, we use this as our interface with Netflix where we can stream all kinds of programs just off cable. With just over the air TV and Netflix, we get to see what we want versus paying $150+ a month to a cable company for 300 channels of stuff we don't watch. Maybe that's why I can take early retirement with all this money I save......

Great DVR

Posted by: Fillyt from on 03/18/2016Decided to cut the cord and the TiVo Bolt works great. I was used to dish's hopper DVR and the Bolt does not disappoint. Has similar features and works great with OTA signal. Also enjoy the streaming App for my iPad and iPhone

Best DVR I've ever used.

Posted by: HilbertFamily from on 03/18/2016As a former DirecTV, Uverse, Comcast, and Charter DVR user I can tell you that the Bolt is far and away the best DVR I've ever used. Even with the upfront Bolt cost and the yearly $150 service fee I will begin to break even and start saving money in less than 2 years compared to renting the CableCo's embarrassing 'whole home DVR'. It was not a difficult decision.

It works great with our cable card from Cox or with an antenna if you're trying to cut the cord. Your first year's subscription is included and it's $15/month after that. But no matter how many TiVo units you add, you only pay $15/month after the year included with the Bolt. We bought several minis to go with it and have reduced our monthly bill by 75%!
