Does anyone ever read the privacy agreement?
Posted by: Chuck2000 from: on
I tried to read the Privacy Statement and it sure looks like the free Webroot version shares information with over 300 different advertisers ...just before installation if you pay very close attention
and find the right location..you get a chance to opt out of each one....yes ...they are all listed by name with a box to check if you want to opt out.
An even bigger insult is that many of the boxes can't be checked for opt out because "that feature is still being worked on" !!!
Someone please show me that I have misunderstood something...only then will I install this "free" version.....sure looks like someone is making money at the expense of user privacy

A true dissapointment
Posted by: DrBob1 from: denver,co on
This new way to detect viruses is quite interesting, more of a "cloud" network than downloading current updates, however, in order for this to work, one must agree not only to activate cookies, which are required for this system to work, but also to keep cookies permanently activated for the "persistent" cookies one must agree to accept. This system cannot work if this system is "opted-out". Unacceptable for me as I delete all cookies after a session. (Does that really matter? Probably not, if one considers all the other ways we are tracked). Nonetheless, I threw this away and bought an "old fashioned" software that requires frequent updates, and allows me to delete cookies after using the web. Good luck, as BestBuy pushes Webroot as their favored anti-virus software.

Webroot blows everything else out of the water
Posted by: 1123user from: Jaxflor on
I've tried Norton, McAffe, Window's built in security, Avast, and everything else that's out there over the 15 years I've been online with PC's and something's always broke through, but not with Webroot. It has consistently caught every Trojan, virus, and everything else they've tried to throw at me and contained it before I knew what hit me. It takes up a very small amount of memory so it doesn't bog down your PC, and the scan takes a very short time, A very safe and extremely important investment for your PC.

THIS UNSAFE WORLD NEEDS INTERNET SECURITY
Posted by: GREAT2BHERE from: U.S.A. on
This "Webroot SecureAnywhere" product is offered to allegedly protect our internet devices and defend us from this unsafe world where there are so many dangers as malware, hackers, etc. There are numerous internet security firms offering similar protection, seemingly almost as many firms as there are devices. Some firms cost less, most are within this price range, and a couple are available at a considerably higher price. Whether these internet security firms do actually defend our devices is something I would not want to learn the hard way. However, realistically, as we repeatedly hear, even the banks and corporations and our government agencies cannot obtain adequate defenses from hacking, etc. While this may be purchased directly from "Webroot" with options to protect as many devices as may be required, from a lower cost for one device and so on, Best Buy offers only these products to cover a maximum of three devices. I had purchased this same brand of internet security last year, along with the rather high-end laptop ordered then, and I am pleased to report that "Webroot" seems to perform as promised, thus far. I ordered another one-year subscription from Best Buy, and my card was charged the full price of nearly $55; even though I had been advised of a guaranteed discount upon renewal. Regardless, when the time came for renewal, it was blatantly apparent that no one wanted to hear a single word regarding any discount. Frequently, a new PC is sold in combination with a bonus of three-months, six-months, or one-year of free security by one of these various firms. Usually, an almost equal fee is added to the overall charge, should you require "Geek Squad" assistance in downloading the new or renewed subscription. A half year of this security product had been included as a bonus with an order of an additional notebook; though I decided to simply disregard that which can prove a literal annoyance as a six-month security bonus and, instead, renewed "Webroot" for one year. At least this time, I can obtain the advantage of the subscription covering the two devices I will use this year, rather than just the one device I had used last year. I must emphasize, whether this does provide effective protection for our internet capable devices, I believe this investment is worth even some peace of mind it certainly does provide.

Great way to protect you computer

I had an issue with my computer and this was included with the Geek Squad protection plan we purchased. It seems to do a fine job at keeping the computer virus free.

Fantastic Protection, small footprint

Everyone needs antivirus. Yet, it seems most programs eat up system resources, and have to download/install definitions several times a day.
Webroot SecureAnywhere is the best antivirus software I've come across in 20 years.
It is light on system resources, easy to install, doesn't bog down your bandwidth downloading virus definition files several times a day. And it works.
I feel safer with this product than with the free antivirus software offerings out there. And I love the minimal impact it has on my system.

Great Software but Poor Product Support
Posted by: tnt5000 from: Duluth, GA on
I bought the software based on various great reviews. Unfortunately, I ran into an issue during the installation process.
I called Best Buy's for software support as indicated on the back of the cd box. Both of the technician that I talked to never tried to solve my problem. The only thing they tried to as to sell the Geek Squad support package after running an utility program without my authorization.
The tech support department was a total waste of time.

I got this product with my new computer and decided to try it out. So far it has worked great. Not intrusive like other ones such as Norton and Mcafee that I've used in the past. Even went without for awhile because of how much overhead those two took. This one I don't even notice it being there.

Subscription starts purchase date not install date
Posted by: Dave from: on
I have been a loyal Webroot customer for many years. Today I am an unhappy customer. I purchased my 3 user subscription on 6-2-16 when I was at best Buy making a purchase.I waited until today to install since I had a current subscription from last year. Imagine my surprise when I installed my software today and instead of a 365 day subscription I had 341 days. When I spoke with the GeekSquad Subscription Software Team I was told my subscription started on the day of purchase. After much discussion about my dissatisfaction I was told that GeekSquad is a 3rd part supplier and that's the way it is, even thought these details were not shared with me at purchase, nor are they posted at the register, or printed on my receipt. The solution to MY PROBLEM--the rep cancels my subscription and I get to wait 2 billing cycles on my credit card for my credit and I get to go back to Best Buy to repurchase WEBROOT again. Wow !that makes me want to continue to be a loyal Best Buy customer...thanks for wasting my time guys...
