Great value but room for improvement
Posted by: feedback360 from: on
After 20 years we decided it was time for new dishwasher. (Had a Gibson basic model.) I spent a full week researching Consumer Reports, Best Buy verified reviews, other sites and this dishwasher ranked high with users. Bought it, installed and after 2 weeks have an opinion.
QUIET! Measured just 52 decibels from one foot away (quieter on other modes.)
LOTS OF SPRAY POINTS. In door, top rack and elsewhere. No problem cleaning.
ADJUSTABLE TOP RACK which is nice however the 4 clips can get in way of larger glasses in that area (just re-arrange to accommodate smaller space. Easy to adjust height too.
CONS: This dishwasher, even with the drying ring in bottom DOES NOT FULLY DRY THE TOP RACK OR THE SILVERWARE IN DOOR. To remedy this problem, leave silverware basket in bottom rack so it's over heating element instead of in the door. We use the HEAT setting on all washes. Only use the 1 hour wash as well. We left door closed for hours after and still did not dry all silverware or parts of glasses on top rack. We will not use a "rinse aid" chemical to dry what dishwasher should do with heating element.
CANNOT ACCESS JUST HEAT CYCLE if you wanted to run heat again to dry. In addition, the dishwasher sides and door don't fully dry. LEAVE DOOR SLIGHTLY OPENED to allow air flow for evaporation.
All in all, love the nylon racks and styling. Clean looking front and based on price, consumer reports ratings ( EXCELLENT on WASHING, ENERGY USE and VERY GOOD on NOISE) we can recommend this dishwasher after 2 weeks of use. Update later after more use. Good luck!

We have owned this dishwasher for approximately one month. We are very happy with it so far. On the plus side, it is ultra quiet when compared to our previous washer. We can sit in our living room (the couch is about 15 feet from the dishwasher) and easily watch TV or have a conversation while it is running without any trouble. Also, the dishes come out very clean...even if you put them in without a thorough pre-rinse.
If I had any negative remarks, it would be two things. First, the wash cycle can be quite long...a full wash with hot cycle, sani-rinse and dry is 3.5 hrs+. There is a 1 hr cycle option but I'm not sure how clean the dishes get. The other negative is that the top rack doesn't get fully dry, nor does the walls of the washer. I do think that this washer comes in an all stainless steel interior option...if I could do over, I would get that one.
All in all, it's an easy recommend for this very good product.

Worked Great For 2yrs
Posted by: McAdams60 from: on
I loved this dishwasher right up until it recently broke exactly 2yrs after I purchasing it. It was quiet, cleaned dishes well, and had great features. Then all of a sudden, it started showing a Temperature Sensor Error and of course the unit was no longer under manufacturer warrant. Next time, I will DEFINITELY be buying the extended 3-5 coverage through the Best Buy Geek Squad.

Our 15 year old dishwasher sprung a leak and we did not think it wise to repair it, so we began looking for a new one. As you might expect, we wanted to avoid all of the things we did not like about the old dishwasher in the new one. This dishwasher fits the bill perfectly. Our most important concern was noise. The old dishwasher could only be run at night while we slept because it was so loud. It also had a pretty short tub so tall glasses would not fit upright on the top rack. Delayed start was also an important feature.
This dishwasher has many features I would consider "high-end" although they are not necessarily advertised as such. First, I think the dishwasher is listed at 55db (noise level) which seems like a large number, but it is actually very quiet. I would say there is no audible pump noise with this dishwasher. Our old dishwasher made sort of a loud grinding noise while it ran. With the new Whirlpool Gold, all you hear is the swishing of the water. It can even run during dinner because it is that quiet. Also the tub seems taller than my old dishwasher. I can put tall glasses on the top rack and the rack slides in an out without getting snagged. Lastly, the stainless steel exterior (door only) is real stainless, not painted, and looks sharp. The interior is not stainless but it is painted a dark grey which looks better than the white interiors you typically see.
This is the first dishwasher I have ever bought (the first came with the house) and the dishwasher this one replaced was 15 years old. So some of these improvements are just the natural evolution you would expect in a newer product. That said, I'm very happy and impressed with it. It cleans and drys well, is quiet, and has all the key features like stainless steel front, adjustable racks, delayed start, multiple wash and dry modes, and more.
At the end of the day you can get whatever you want if price is not a concern. But this dishwasher offers an exceptional value. At $449 (on sale), you can't beat it. Regular price is probably still under $500. Highly recommended.

Call me unlucky

I bought this dishwasher in January 2014...since then I had a few issues:
- water licking from under the front door
- steam damage in the flooring and wood around the machine
- machine wouldn't start
- pump replaced
- motor burn
US$ 450 to replace, a little over 1 year usage.

I purchased this during a big holiday sale and think it is a great product for the money. It does have a long "normal cycle" says it takes 3 hours, however a lot of that is drying so if you don't want to wait 3 hours you may have wet plates.

Quiet and effective

This dishwasher is great and very quiet which is nice. The only complaint I have is that the standard wash cycle is 3 hrs and 20 minutes.

Bad Design With Known Defect
Posted by: mrmom from: on
Do not buy whirlpool dishwashers.
Mine lasted a little over a year before I started experiencing major issues, like the top drawer breaking, I called the company, and they informed me it was a known defect, but made me purchase the repair kit and make the repair myself. It cost about $50 to buy the kit, but this was just the start.
About a month later I have stopped using the and have been washing everything by hand. The dishes would not get clean especially the top rack.
I finally called my home warranty company and they sent a repair man out, he said the motor had quit working and the washer needed a new motor and several filters, it was more expensive to fix it so, I and getting a $250 credit so I go find another washer. This washer lasted about 13 months before it stopped working. It is a Whirlpool Gold, I think we paid almost $700 for it and it lasted a year. I am looking for another and it will not be Whirlpool. Bad product and bad customer service.

Great Dishwasher - almost perfect
Posted by: IndyBestbuyFan from: on
For the money ($400 or so, Nov 2014), this has been a pleasent suprise. As others have alluded to, it's very quite to operate, and cleaning is fairly well for basic dishes, such as plates, cups, and bowls. Spots seems to be an issue, even with jet dry on clear glass. Installation is fairly simple, capcity is adaquate, though, the plastic wheels on the dish racks bother me a little. They are fine, but longivity is questionable. The 1 hour clean is good for a light load, but the average clean cycle is 3h. Overall, it's a good buy for the money and I can't see how a more expensive washer would yield any better results with cleaning given how dishes are different between households.

Quality vs Price
Posted by: RCcee from: on
A bit skeptical at first, reading the reviews, I can at least say I took 50% of them for face value. For personal reasons I chose to go with this model and glad I did. My last dishwasher was $1000 kitchen Aid that out lived its life. At first, this model seemed a bit cheap, but don't let that fool you. I rate this washer as excellent in all aspects, except for the silverware rack, being put on the right bottom side. other than that, excellent drying, excellent washing and doesn't take forever. Good Choice, and when I move, will consider a re-purchase. Q
