OK - Except for Doors and freakin ice maker!
Posted by: DigitalBill from: Tampa on
I really like the design and look of this fridge. It was well designed and runs quietly. But the ice maker drives me absolutely bat s**** because 1) it constantly clogs in the chute, causing a massive back-up inside the fridge and when you open the door to unclog the jam, the ice spills everywhere inside and outside the fridge and 2) it doesn't make much ice considering the unit inside the fridge is the size of a Buick. And maybe it was the complete maroon (intentional misspelling) that installed my fridge (they dented the fridge and took out a hunk of my door frame en route), but the doors don't close like most fridges. Instead of gently closing by themselves through gravity, you have to really give them a push to get them to close all the way. That part of the design is awful. So if you don't mind the ice jams and door being open, it's otherwise a good fridge for the price point. Btw, if this "Made in America" sticker is true, I can see why folks by Korean fridges.

Buyer Beware of Stainless
Posted by: Tiffany from: on
I would give the design of the fridge 5 stars. After owning the fridge for 2 months we noticed small rust spots in the stainless, especially where a magnet had been hanging. After a ton of web research, companies are using a stainless blend in their products that may rust. There are problems all over the web. Whirlpool sent us special cleaner, which doesn't help. I hear they won't do much for you after the first 30 days. Still trying to decide at 6 months which angle to pursue. We are careful with our appliances, so I'm nervous to see how it will look in another 6 months.

Horrible Ice Maker
Posted by: Ash1822 from: on
The fridge and drawer are fine but the ice maker is just awful. Never produced enough ice and we've had the mechanism replace three times in less than a year. You can fill up a large Tervis once a day and then hope it makes ice again. Absolutely horrible.

Bad Ice Maker
Posted by: Linda from: Chandler, AZ on
I love the design of this refrigerator, especially the middle drawer. However, 3 weeks after purchasing this refrigerator, it stopped making ice and the ice maker had to be replaced. Also, when it did make ice, it did not make very much and took forever to make new batches. Also the water system doesn't always have cold water available. So far other than that it has been great. One caveat, whirlpool customer service IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST to deal with

Read before you purchase

We were very excited and waited close to 3 week to get our refrigerator. Upon arrival the delivery crew mounted the handles and left plastic covering on which meant we had to remove handles to get all the plastic off. The inside was filthy at the rubber lining. The fridge is absolutely beautiful, very well thought out design, and we are giving it a few days more as the unit is noisy and not just when fast ice is on. Our old fridge never made any noise and you didn't know it was on. Had Best Buy technician out and he said that the noise from the fan is common and nothing can be done. This hasn't been a very good Best Buy experience for us. This was a very expensive fridge and felt the quality is there, the noise is something we didn't expect

Nice Fridge with nice features
Posted by: Wiggi from: on
I have this fridge since one week now. I usually don't write a review that quick, however, I would like to share a solution about problems/disappointments I read in several reviews. Some people were complaining about the water stream coming out of the dispenser. Water stream very low.The manual AND a sticker on the back of the fridge state clearly NOT to use a self-piercing saddle valve or a saddle valve that needs to have a whole drilled into the water pipe of 3/16" in diameter. The right valve is a 1/4" saddle valve. The self-piercing saddle valves say on the package it is 1/4" but it is the size of connection of your water line going to the fridge. The actual whole you have to drill in plastic pipes or the whole that gets pierced is 3/16" or smaller. With that being said I was not able to find the right valve in 2 major hardware stores. The installation package that Best Buy offers does not contain the right valve either. To get the fridge going I bought the self-piercing valve. Yes, the water stream is disappointing. So I went on ebay and searched for a "Non-self piercing saddle valve" and actually found it. 1/4" saddle valve where you HAVE to drill a 1/4" whole into your supply pipe. I installed that one and the water stream is just fine. A difference of the water stream like day and night.
What I don't like about this fridge is the power consumption. I was looking at a Samsung fridge with the same price and pretty much same size, however, without the extra produce drawer and I really wanted to have a fridge with the extra produce drawer. Everything else seemed to be the same. But this Whirlpool fridge consumes about 40% more power than the Samsung french door fridge in the same price group without the produce drawer. That is why I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars.
Other than that I really like this fridge.
I hope I was able to help some people with the "water stream" problem.

I really like the four door set up, having spent a lot of time cooking at a friend's house who has a Samsung. I intended to buy the Samsung which was about $400 more than this Whirlpool normally, but there was an "open box" deal which made this one under $1,100 versus $1,900 for the Samsung and I just couldn't justify paying almost double. I don't regret buying it because it was a good deal, but I would never recommend this at full price.
The number one issue is the warranty. Whirlpool only offers a one year warranty; other manufacturers offer five to ten years on some parts such as compressors and seals. I called to cancel this purchase after I researched the warranties and the salesperson threw in a free five year extended warranty.
The second issue is the energy cost. This unit is not energy star rated and the energy usage is very high. I had a tough time getting over this one, but again it came down to it simply being too good of a deal to pass up at the discounted price.
In terms of using the refrigerator, there are some things that I am not happy with. The shelves on the doors are removable for cleaning, but there are no options for adjusting their height. There is a small one on the side by the ice/water dispenser that is so small that I can't find anything to put there.
The "floor" of the main refrigerator section drops down an inch or so from the outer door frame which gives a bit extra room, but you have to tilt anything that goes in there so often it spills or if it is tall you have to lift the shelf a bit to get it past the lip.
You have to be careful when closing it to make sure that it really does close. When you close one door, the air pressure causes the other door to "pop" and then re-close. After this was delivered and I noticed the problem, I walked through two stores trying every other model'; they all closed tightly and securely except for this one.
The paddles that you push for getting ice and water are poorly designed. The are six inches high, but you have to hold your glass up and press on the very top. If you have a short glass and you have it down towards the bottom, nothing happens. Very frustrating having to explain to each guest wanting ice that the new refrigerator has a trick to it.

Very Good Refrigerator
Posted by: Sun16 from: on
My review is based on three weeks of owning this unit. I have been on the hunt for Refrigerator for a while. I have been waiting to find a one with qood quality and price and i found one when i visited BestBuy. This unit has three sections. I loved the fact that it has seperate meat and produce compartment and has good amount of space to store meat, veggies and fruits. You don't have to open the entire door of the refrigerator to take a piece of produce. This will save you energy. It has very good freezer compartment. You can seperate the items into four different compartments based on your usage. Main section has good amount of space to arrange the shelves the way we wanted. It has bright interior lighting, you can see clearly even the produce and meat you have. Also shelf supports are strong to support the weight it carries. Good amount of door space too.
My experience with the purchase was very good. Sales team was very helpful. They scheduled the delivery based on my availability. I was extremly happy with the delivery team. They came and measured the door and kitchen entry size and then removed the old one and brought the new one in without scratch or dent. They connected the waterhose. Connected the water filter and tested the water dispenser and everything worked as it suppose to.
So for nothing negative to say. This unit gives a great look to my Kitchen. It will for any size kitchen.

This is my first refrigerator that my wife and I bought. We knew it would be a good idea to just get a fridge that was top quality so we would be happy with it down the line. I really believe that this fridge will last us a long time because it seems high quality. I wish I would have read the instructions in the beginning because just now after 3 months of owning it, I found out that you can adjust the measured fill option and calibrate it to the correct fill. I had just thought that our water pressure was not reaching the fridge. Now, it works like a charm!
