Re-badged 290? Posted by: DizTracTeD23 from: Asheville, NC on I picked this card for future upgrades such as a triple monitor set-up due to the 8GB of VRAM that it offers compared to NVIDIA's GTX 970, which only offers 4GB (SKU: 2496109) and is about the same price. There are a few claims from AMD that this card is not a re-badged 290 but comparing the specs between the two, they are very very similar. You do get 4GB more VRAM, slightly faster memory speed, and more memory bandwidth with the R3 390. Put it up against a GTX 970, and you will be surprised at how it can keep up with it in 3DMark benchmarking compared to its R9 290 predecessor. To sum it up, the R9 390 is technically a beefed up and "overclocked" R9 290 and has the potential to keep up with its top rival, the GTX 970. P.S. : I haven't done any overclocking with neither card other than my CPU which was clocked lower when I had the GTX 970. Also, there are tons of adapters that come with the R9 390 which I can probably see why it's $10 more.

Returned the gtx970 for this Posted by: bazookatooths from: on Okay initially went with the evga gtx970 ssc , worked great for a few hours then I come back to play chrome starts crashing it, precision x starts crashing it, and every game I played,reinstalled drivers updated them. No avail! Which you can't edit your reviews I would have given it 1 star. Reason for going with it was the HEAT and POWER ISSUES of the 390 claims (ALL TOTAL BS) The r9 390 runs only 3 degrees hotter under load in my pc, and 3 degrees cooler idle. System was a few degrees hotter under load then with the r9 390. Power I am able to use this card with a 650w Thermaltake and its doing perfect. I even have my cpu FX-8120 w/ 4.3ghz OC. I should have waited for more reviews before buying the card, this thing performs better and smoother , with no crashes. Believe the reviews ITS BETTER. No driver issues at all! With 8gigs this should futureproof you for quite awhile why settle for the 4gb wait 3.5gb(another thing that made me mad). So don't believe the extreme heat BS, along with the extreme power, if you have a good named brand 650w you should be fine, this 8core is a powerhog and I am having no issues. Did I mention it comes with a backplate,unlike the 970. 10/10 I have tried both. R9 390 is the champ! Yes it does seem too good to be true!

Good budget video card Posted by: R9390 from: on I purchased this after deciding I needed some more horsepower than my PNY GTX970 2GB was giving me. Particularly for games like GTA V. This card has double the video memory at a similar price point to the GTX I had before, and man does it outperform. I don't overclock or anything crazy, but it's an easy setup and this thing cranks. 60fps on just about anything outside of GTA V or games with big maps/draw distances. Runs rocket league at 60 without a hiccup. Would highly recommend to seriously boost your graphics power without murdering your wallet. Alas, it does have the same old downfall of all AMD cards which is their software and support are iffy at best. To combat this, I simply don't update software until it comes out of Beta as indicated on the software utility. This is one area where NVIDIA based cards really shine as opposed to the AMDs, their software is much more reliable.

Best Bang for the Buck Posted by: Quikshiv from: on This card runs any Battlefield version on ultra at a constant 90+ FPS. I replaced an R9270X which ran the games at 60+ FPS. I didn't bother spending the extra $100 for the 390X and am glad I didn't. There is more than enough power here to run anything you run through it.

Great GPU Posted by: Apigeon from: on I know a lot of people complain because the 300 series is basically the older 200 series rebranded, but they fail to see that the engineering has been refined and there are some really good updates to this GPU. There are some small performance upgrades and better power management. Memory bandwith has been increased and there is now 8GB of it which allows for the 8GB frame buffer. It makes it to the upper tiers of graphics cards and I haven't had a game that it can't handle.

Fast - 45 FPS stable in Witcher 3 on Ultra at 1080p 2. Quiet - fans never seem to spin up past 50% 3. Cool - even with minimal fan speed, never gets above 60C 4. Value - for the power you get, this is in a really nice sweet spot 5. Brand - XFX is a quality manufacturer of components and have really good customer service. XFX has done an excellent job with this video card and if you are looking for a high power GPU in the $300-$350 price range, you can't really go wrong with this one. The fact that it also comes with a free game download is just icing on the cake.

Good card for your next upgrade. Posted by: Thomas from: on This card has enuf power to run even the most demanding games. This is a good choice if you do not want to pay to much to get good porformance. On top of being good, this upgrade will last you a good 4 years garentee lifespan, or longer.

I under stand nvidia may be more optimized and my play things a tad smoother but amd business ethics are better. They believe in non preparatory softwear and hardware to make cross compatibility with all hardwear manufactures and software developers. This is what I like to see in a company. And hopefully with dx12 the optimizing gets better
