The best keyboard/case solution for IPP by far!
Posted by: TerryJ from: Daytona Beach, FL on
After trying the Logitech Create and Apple Smart keyboard, I was really disappointed in both. The Create seemed like most of the physical features were afterthoughts in spite of the technical items being pretty good (backlit, Smart connector, etc). The way it held the IPP was simply poorly implemented all around. The Apple keyboard too seemed like something quickly cobbled together and even though it was very light and trim, the weird feeling fabric, lack of iOS keys and fewer features made it ridiculous for the price.
I had a friend try the Zagg SlimBook and was raving about it so I gave it a try. Well, I am just as big of a fan now too. I am an Apple consultant and writer/reviewer for a major industry magazine so good functionality is very important to the way I work. Zagg has nailed it here. Sure, it is a little heavier, but it is solid and offers so many modes of use and features, it's a very easy trade-off. Oh, and it is less expensive than the Apple or Logitech models too. Having Bluetooth vs. the new Smart connector is a non-issue realistically. Not being confined to the connector has allowed Zagg to give you an adjustable hinge for the screen and with a claimed 2-year battery life it's no big deal. The funny thing to me at least, is how people worry about charging the keyboard yet don't even blink about the fact they have to charge their iPad daily anyway. If it's no big deal to plug in your iPad every 10 or so hours when it needs it, what is the big problem with plugging your keyboard in overnight once in a while... In this case every 2 years?
Strong recommendation for professional or most any other IPP users!

Love it, but just so you know...
Posted by: KMGpdx from: Portland, OR on
I echo everything positive that's already been said about this keyboard/case combo. I love it and it's made my iPad Pro my default computing device maybe 90% of the time. The build quality is very good and yes, while it's heavy, remember that it has to be or else it would tip over.
My only concerns so far, after a few weeks of use, is that the outer case that protects the back of the iPad is prone to collecting scratches pretty easily. I'm very careful with my toys but already there are noticeable scratches and I can't imagine from what. Also, be aware that, since both the case surrounding the iPad and the slot into which the iPad is inserted into the keyboard are both plastic, after time you'll hear plastic-on-plastic squeaking and creaking as you open and close your iPad against the keyboard. During normal use, and while poking the screen, no problem. Only when adjusting the angle of the iPad or opening/closing is it heard. The reason this bothers me is that in meetings, I can't adjust it during quiet moments. I'm going to try wedging some kind of thin padding into the slot somehow to see if that keeps the plastic from sounding like a pig rooting for truffles.
Everything else about it is about as perfect as you could hope. I love the extra keyboard functions like the task switcher, Siri, etc. Best bang for your buck with this keyboard if you can look past its necessary weight, the possibility of being a scratch magnet, and the creaking sounds that will develop over time. I still don't regret the purchase!

Product Failure on Several Levels
Posted by: JeffDonald from: on
I purchased my Zagg keyboard just several weeks ago and it's a big disappointment. It started with the product not staying synced with the iPad Pro 12.9 after about a week. It disconnected constantly and it's still doing it as I type this review.
The next issue is that the "M" key broke and sticks all the time. So, I've been trying to type with a disfunctional key for about a week. Then today I notice that the screen hinge on the left side is cracked. I'd give it just a few days until the screen falls off and the iPad takes a potentially serious tumble.
Before any reader jumps to conclusion and thinks I've abused the case/keyboard in some way, let me set the record straight. I'm not a heavy user. Just a guy trying to be more productive on the internet. Multiple failures on so many levels tells me Zagg just didn't do it's home work. Beware, you've been warned.
This is very disappointing for a keyboard case less than 3 weeks only. I'm returning this to Best Buy and getting a refund. don't suggest the Logitech keyboard case, because it's even worse. I'm stuck waiting for the Clam Case due late summer. Very disappointing that two of the best companies have totally missed the mark.

Awesome for month 1, now I'm starting to worry...
Posted by: ANickInTime from: Austin, TX on
I would give this thing 5 stars if the case around my iPad hadn't suddenly decided to crack right around the power button after about 2 months of ownership. It's never been dropped, and usage hasn't been rugged or what I would consider "heavy" (meaning, I take really good care of this thing). As I was typing away about a month ago, and the case suddenly made a little "crick" sound. The plastic suddenly separated right near the power button at the top, where I would assume it's the weakest. For a $130 case, This should not happen after less than a couple months of use. Tried reaching out to Zagg on Twitter about it too, only silence in return. Just bummed.

Simply the best of the keyboard cases available.
Posted by: Sluggo from: on
Since getting my iPad Pro at release, I've had 3x different cases (Apple keyboard, Logi, and this one). By and FAR this is the best of all worlds. Here are the Pro's:
1. Excellent construction. Strong, durable, well made.
2. the ability to instantly remove the Ipad while still in the shell and work on it as a stand alone pad. (Logi doesn't do that)
3. The only one of the 3 that gives you a full range (instead of just 1) viewing angles.
4. best protective cover of the 3 to protect your iPad from damage.
1. It is a lot heavier (when installed it's like carrying around a light laptop more than a pad.)
2. no keyboard interface, so it does still connect the keyboard via bluetooth, and requires keyboard charging.. note though, one keyboard charge lasts a VERY long time (better part of a year even with a lot of daily use).
I would say of the 3x keyboard's the Apple was the worst, Logi 2nd and this one is the best.. by a wide margin.
Great product, and highly recommending.

I'm not satisfied with this purchase. It's only been a few weeks and already the back is falling apart. It's meant to hold the tablet and secure it to the keyboard and, if you leave it attached to your iPad always, it's fine. I didn't because the keyboard is heavy and I don't use it everyday. So, inserting and removing your iPad from the back support cause the edges to crack and break. It still holds it well enough to use but it looks awful with this long piece just dangling at the top edge. I think Best Buy will replace it because I impulsively bought insurance when prompted by the clerk. We'll see.

Solid Keyboard, turns IPad into Macbook
Posted by: DNN1 from: Philadelphia, PA on
Solid construction overall but a bit heavy. Weight is not an issue for me, the extra heavy makes it feel high quality and not flimsy when using different orientations (modes). Key strokes feel solid, Palm rest is made of aluminum it feels like, outer material is hard plastic. Keyboard can be connected up to 3 devices and it's as easy as pressing fn + 1, 2 or 3. Comes with a hard iPad case cover that is removable for different views or just moving it around. Manufacture is boasting a 2 year battery life between charges...can't really verify that just yet. Overall great solid product at a reasonable price compared to lower quality keyboards with a higher price tag. Makes the iPad look like a MacBook literally which is awesome.

The Best iPad Pro Case
Posted by: lbchs22 from: on
Got the iPad Pro and I love it. But I needed a keyboard. Apple keyboard was probably the best, but I wanted something more. That was when I found this keyboard. It really does turn the iPad into a real laptop. The keys are great and I love just love the multiple color backlit keyboard. This keyboard has lots of hot keys which is also great. When I use this, no one can tell it's actually an iPad and not a MacBook. You can't go wrong with this case!

I love this product! Yes I does made my iPad heavier. And yes it is heavier than my MacBook Pro was....but I still think it is the best alternative for me. It is just like having a MacBook. I have a wireless hard drive and my iPad Pro is 128g. So it all good.

Good laptop replacement. Some design flaws.

Makes your iPad MUCH heavier. The keyboard is active anytime you open the case. That makes it a little annoying when you want to use your iPad Pro separated from the keyboard. I've had two of these and the plastic around the sleep/power button broke both times.
