Amazing film. Want to start off by saying that its amazing. As for the actual quality of the remaster it looks really great! I don’t have HDR but even then the colors were bright and vibrant! Animation was really amazing and smooth. Would love to look for more like it. This was an excellent start for my 4K anime collection.

If you have to ask "What's Akira?", you shouldn't be allowed to watch anime. Columns and articles have been written for nearly 25 years over this landmark in animated cinema. It (along with Ghost in the Shell) firmly cemented the industry outside of it's native Japan. Every second of this film has been used in some other series for it's genre and trope defining grace. Cyberpunk should really be called "Akira Style" or "Wannabe Akira". The picture is as good as Akira will ever be. The movie was re-mastered in 2003 for DVD release , and while it looks glorious, they couldn't eliminate every speck, especially during darker lit sequences. The sound of Akira was the first release of a Dolby Hi-Def media port that utilized the hypersonic effect for both Region A and the Japanese ports, meaning it can deliver notes and sounds not even the human eardrum can register! While it may not be a new 7.1 Dolby Atmos track, it is certainly past the normal Audio 2.0 tracks found on most Japanese dubs to English. As far as extras go, there's an entire extras disc included in the Funimation release, as well as extras on the main presentation Blu-ray including interviews with the director and TV spots. If you didn't pick it up when Pioneer distributed it 4 years ago, GET IT NOW! No Blu-ray collection is complete without Akira.

Japanese anime movie "Akira", continues to be my best and most favorite film. The graphics and the script compel you along in breakneck speed and the artistic quality of the film will leave you breathless.

You know how people sometimes talk about how if they were stranded on a desert island, and could only have one ________ (book, music album, etc)? Well if I were on a desert island and could have just one Anime, this would be it. This is a seminal, hugely influential film, both in terms of story/setting and in terms of style. It tells a fully-formed story at a perfect pace, and does not weigh you down with too much exposition... you get enough information to follow along and be no more confused than the characters themselves, yet enough is left open that some intriguing mystery remains (and the viewer can explore much of that in the extensive Manga on which the movie is based). As for the Blu-Ray disc - the image quality is hugely improved over the old VHS and DVD releases (as well it should be), and there is enough going on in every frame that the 1080p resolution is put to good use. Audio is outstanding as well. I could go on, but I'll keep it simple. Even if you're not necessarily an Anime fan, this movie deserves a place in your collection.

Fantastic movie I've owned for years already on DVD. For $20 at best buy picked up in Steelbook Blu-ray. Also includes a likely better DVD than the one I own. I will likely only use the BRay, but the added DVD always makes it feel like a better value. The steelbook is fantastic, the design is the classic art for the film. It actually sticks out/is textured instead of a flat print. Has some extras in case too. All in all, excellent choice and much better than the standard blu=ray/dvd which was $5 less. If you are buying this you likely enjoy Akira already or soon will. I won't review the actual movie but the package here is certainly high quality.

Great title thst set the standard for storytelling and imagination of modern anime. Unfortunately due to the hand drawn nature may take a kionumental effort to cleanly translate this to 4k+. Still upsaclared fairly well, but you can see thr grain in the details. Inwould still get this on a modern tv, simply because its dtill better pixel for puxel than the original upscaled, but its not perfect. Audio is 2.0 for some of the original mixes, but 5.1 for others. Me ys werea bit of the okd school style, but navigatable .

The 4K picture quality and sound is great. There is an English 1988 version audio track on it, so you can watch the original version.

this is easily the best version of this movie available. It not only has the new version of the soundtrack, but it also has the original English dub. I have been waiting for this for a long time. The original blu-ray releases only had the new English dub, while good, it's not the one that I grew up watching. The booklet which was promised in the initial release but not delivered in all Editions is present I am very happy with this purchase.

If you're familiar with animated movies on 4K disc, you know appreciation will come more from the HDR and WCG. Even with this being my first viewing, it was clear the colors were deeper and more "life-like" than if I had watched it in 1080p or SD. It has a consistently active 5.1 soundtrack as well, which was pleasantly surprising. As a film, I thought it overly long as it ends up becoming relentlessly action based for the climax; still a worthwhile watch, though.

Virtually every pseudo intellectuals favorite anime film. Amazing film with some beautiful scenes. Great transfer also. Though I find myself preferring my vhs copy sometimes. Can’t beat scan lines and bad audio.

My all time favorite anime. Otomo and his work is absolutely brilliant, this movie is a great companion to the equally brilliant manga. A must watch for animation fans of all backgrounds.
