General Features The general feature list of the BN1050M Battery Back-up is: • Battery back-up with up to 98 minutes runtime • 8 Outlets: 4 with battery back-up and surge protection & 4 with only surge protection • Output Capacity is listed as 1050 VA, 600 Watts • LCD Screen • Automatic Diagnostic Testing • Push Button Circuit Breaker • Powerchute Auto-Shutdown Software • Building Wire Fault Indicator • Automatic Voltage Regulation • 3-Year Warranty with equipment protection How I Use It Everyone uses products their own way. For me, I use this battery back-up to protect and power a desktop PC and 32” Samsung Monitor. I want to be able to shut down my computer on my own and have an uninterrupted power supply (UPS). For this to work, I need to keep my desktop and monitor active long enough to shut down. This UPS also regulates voltage to prevent surges and brown outs. I have owned several APC battery back-ups and I typically do not use the Powerchute Auto-Shutdown Software. There are cables in the box to connect the UPS to your computer and software that is Windows compatible for your use. Battery Back-Up Feature The battery back-up feature is the main feature in my opinion. It boasts to have up to 98 minutes of runtime. I assume that this is with virtually no load. In my real-world testing, the LCD screen shows that I should actually get 19 minutes of runtime with the 190 Watt load (desktop and monitor) that I am running. Outlets As briefly mentioned, there are 4 outlets that will serve as battery back-up and surge protection. There are 4 other outlets that are surge protection only. This model does not have any USB charging ports. One disadvantage with this model is that the ports are placed closely together: 4 stacked on each side of the UPS. Sometimes the power adapters that plug in are large and will take up more room, so you can’t use the adjacent power outlet. If these were spaced out a little more, it could help with that. I assume that APC was trying to keep the casing more compact for this model which is why they are close together. AVR This UPS utilizes Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR). This feature helps to regulate the power that comes from the wall outlet without using the battery. In addition to surge protection and battery back-up, it’s a nice addition to keep consistent power coming to your electronics. Automatic Diagnostic Testing The UPS will self-perform tests on its internal components and the battery. The battery is checked every two weeks. When it does the self-perform checks, you’ll hear some clicking noises. If the battery fails, usually there will be a shrill continuous beeping sound to let you know that something is wrong. I’m giving the APC BN1050M 4 stars. It’s the minimum that I would choose for a desktop PC. As you can see, you really need to account for a decreased runtime once you add real world loads. If you have a power hungry PC (gaming), you may look at a larger model to support your power needs for the battery back-up. The LCD display looks nice, and helps to be transparent with what it’s doing. The outlet placement is a concern for me, as I may not be able to utilize all 4 plugs on each side. This just depends on the power adapters plugging into it. It packs surge protection, voltage regulation, and UPS into one package. Overall it’s a good option for a standard desktop PC and monitor.

The APC Back-UPS Pro is a slim unit that provides ample surge protection for 8 outlets and battery backup for 4 outlets. Compared to similar powered units from other brands, this is a smaller footprint and shorter. The construction of the battery backup is top notch. It is built like a tank. The display on the front of the unit provides useful information regarding the power input, power consumption, and how much time the battery will run if the power goes out. Upon unboxing the unit, it prompts you to plug the battery in to start charging. This shows how easy it is to replace the battery down the road if the battery dies. The biggest negative about the unit is how closely spaced the outlets are to each other. Most routers, modems, and other smaller devices uses power transformers which blocks two outlets. If you are lucky enough to have lying around 3-prong extension cords, then you can utilize all the outlets. Out of the box, your devices might limit how many devices you can connect. It would be nice if APC either spaced out the outlets or provide as a bonus extension cords to accommodate wall transformers. Despite that annoyance, the battery backup does what it is supposed to do in a small inconspicuous package that is built like a tank. I have no doubt this will last a long time.

We lose power about 5 or more times a year and wanted a battery backup to keep my Wi-Fi going during these times. I didn’t need a large battery backup, so I wanted to give this APC BN1050M a try. APC includes software to help safely shut down a desktop during power outages. However, I did not test this feature since I only use laptops. This battery backup includes a silence button to turn off the annoying beeping during power outages. The display is also handy to see how much battery power is left. There is also a load indicator. However, since I was planning on using this to supply power for my modem, router and security cameras, I was not worried about this feature. There were 4 battery-backup and surge protected outlets on one side of the unit with 4 surge protected outlets on the other side. I was disappointed that the outlets were not spaced out better. The power adapters for the router and modem overlapped the other two outlets. This was even more disappointing since I was unable to supply power for my security camera hub. The battery backup was estimated to last about 205-225 minutes while powering the router and modem. I would recommend looking at your power adapters before purchasing this battery backup unit. For normal plug wires, this would be a great battery-powered backup.

I recently bought a somewhat high end gaming PC. i9/3090 with a couple nice monitors for it. I have it plugged into a normal outlet so I was looking for something that would help protect my goodies in the event of a power outage or storm surge. These APCs get pretty pricey however I was looking for something mid ranged that could provide surge protection for my PC as well as some backup power should the power go out. This unit seemed to fit really nicely as far as requirements go. It's sorta small so the footprint of this isn't that big. I have it set underneath my sit/stand desk and I don't even know it's there most of the time. Power wise, the specs on my PC are somewhat high so I'm estimating I should have about 10-14 minutes of power in the event of an outage or something. That's totally fine with me as I don't do a whole lot of data intensive work on my PC and that's still plenty of time to save a file should power go out. Only real con I can think of is that I have two surge protectors plugged into my APC. These have the right angle plugs so they cover up one of the power plugs on the back of the APC. There are 8 outlets on the back so I essentially lose two of them having these surge protectors in there. Not a huge thing though I would've liked the ability to have these two remain free even with the surge protectors plugged in. For now, they're fine and I still have 4 outlets remaining. For me, this works about right. It's small, provides protection for my equipment and is moderately priced considering other alternatives out there.

The APC Back-UPS Pro BN1050N is a power solution to help keep your devices safe (from power fluctuations) and powered up in case of a power outage. This device simply keeps power constant without any dips or spikes in the power delivery. Constant power is important to me as I want to keep my gaming PC and network devices protected from power issues and this has an automatic voltage regulation system that helps with that. The over-all case design is slim and has a footprint that easily fits under my desk. On the rear, there are a total of 8 power plugs, 4 provide battery + surge protection and the remaining 4 provide surge protection only. The plugs are oriented in a way that doesn’t really let you use devices with large power bricks since without taking up two spots. Some other APC devices usually have one plug with a gap around it so you can plug a larger brick in, but this is all close together. Regular standard power plugs you will have no problems though. My solution was to use a short extension cord to overcome this downside. Another great feature is the fact that you can easily replace the batteries on this without much hassle, and that will greatly extend of life of this for years and years. The current battery will most likely last about 3 or so years as does with most APC batteries that I have used in the past. The PowerChute software was a little confusing to find on the APC site since this particular model was not even listed on their site, but you just need to use PowerChute Personal Edition 3.1.0 (at the time of this writing) and it will work perfectly. The software is configurable for what you need this to do. For example, you can set it to gracefully shut down (they word it Hibernate) your PC when there is a specific amount of time left in the battery or if you want to turn it off at a different time. Energy cost / C02 emissions and kWh per day are displayed for you as well as estimated battery time based on current draw. APC is a very reliable brand and I have been using them for years without any major problems. We also use the very expensive units at work to protect our data center and network gear, so I have a lot of faith in them.

Only a couple of weeks since my purchase, but all is well so far. I've owned APC voltage regulators before and have found them satisfactory. I'm giving it a 4* instead of a 5*, because the battery connections are inane ... I had to take pictures and send them to my AI program which then made a detailed image showing how to connect. Apparentlly there are two or more versions of battery connections for the product ... perhaps you'll get the other one.

This is a powerful battery backup, but all of the plugs are in the back, making it difficult to install for certain applications. A better design would have put all of the plugs on top.

Easy to set up. Seems to be working fine. Haven't had any power outages while using the computer. I would give it a 5 star if the available plugs were a bit farther apart. Some items I needed to plug in have a larger plug and had to be plugged into none backup receptacles. Otherwise a sturdy unit. that I can replace the battery as needed in the future.

Great product to protect your valuable electronics. Use it for my gaming laptop, tv, surround sound system. The auto voltage regulator, (avr), makes sure your equipment is getting 120v when your voltage dips at times.

Bought this in preperation for a hurricane passing through. The power was out for only a little over an hour, but I plugged my computer and phone in during that time and kept everything charged. Can't comment to how long that could have lasted but it worked for my puposes

I bought what I thought was a larger size and it does fulfill the function of giving me time to work on my computer, wrap things up and shut if down but definitely not working for hours after the power goes out. Nice to have a backup for charging other devices when the power goes out. Note that only 4 outlets are backed-up the other four are just pass through power.

This APC has done a great job of protecting me against power surges and arc faults in my homes main power breaker. My only complaint is that they seemed to have over estimated the length of time the battery will last when the power does go out. With only my PC and Internet modemconnected to the battery, I can usually get about 5 to 10 minutes before the battery dies, whereas the product advertises times significantly longer than that.

Good all around battery backup. If you are just trying to keep internet going, this was able to keep my internet and wireless access points going for over an hour.

I was having a week or so of blackouts in my area during and after a storm. I have Starlink and it takes roughly 15 minutes to stabilize after losing power for even a few seconds. I bought this to make sure I could keep my internet going when my power went out. I have the Starlink with a motorized dish and with this I was able to get about an hour of power to it. Thankfully it was enough usually to keep it charged and not lose internet between blackouts. Next time I'll probably better look at the power demands of the dish, but for now having even an hour of power is very helpful.

Glad to have this. We have one room (where we have to use this) that has not the best wiring. This trips before out computer gets zapped.
