Sure, it was a bit buggy the first little bit, but the sound quality is absolutely stellar and out-weighed those few bugs ..By far the best Processor/Receiver I have every owned..Blows away the newest Denon and Marantz receivers, in both Music(outstanding and hard to describe how much better it sounds) and Movies (again hard to describe how much better). I sent it in for a few weeks to get the HDMI upgrade and had a very, very hard time listening to music again on the marantz… That is how mich better this Arcam is!!! Glad to have back!!!!

the only value i can see here is it can add up to 6 subwoofer in the setting. its not bad if you have extra amp for another usage but if you want the perfect one for the system not really worth the price

Ok I've been dealing with a processor lottery for a little over 3 months now. Originally had an Arcam AVR10 receiver and decided to up my game to another brand processor, no luck, issues plus lack of support. Went ahead and tried this guy (av40) even the Magnolia General Manager told me that it was buggy but, I didn't listen... Well fast forward the machine shuts down the audio playback of almost anything I am playing from 4K UHD to ATV streaming, to Roon or even their Music Life app. It appears its random, not Arcam, nor any forum members can tell me why. A good ole' reboot needs to be performed everytime. I would say the sound is pretty darn good and it's a very classy looking piece (love the display) however, for a 4500 unit I would expect A LOT more from it, especially when you need to supply external amplification where it can drive costs to over 6K easily. I would steer clear of this unless you don't mind a computer with tons of bugs. Also, Arcam is a smaller company, therefore firmware updates are not the easiest to come by, these companies could supply nicer products but at the expense of using you as their beta tester.

I love this unit. I know it has two other not so great reviews and I totally understand where those people are coming from. Arcam released this with what could be called beta level software and has been updating for almost a year now. I can safely say I've had one for about 3 months not and the difference in quality from my Marantz AV-8801 is instantly noticeable. Digital sources sound better. even without having time to dial it in fully and run DIRAC Live it still sounds more balanced that what I had before. It's a great unit and I can wait to get more into it but to anyone considering buying this online go stop into a MDC and buy it from someone there and have them open it up and run an update on it before you take it home to save you the time and also ensure you can just bring it home and enjoy it straight away. Absolutely worth every penny.

Purchased the av 40 in June, I needed to finish my Basement before I could install it. In September I went to install and to my disappointment the receiver was a brick. I made several attempts to get it to boot up with no success. the next day I contacted ARCAM and was told to return it to best buy. I contacted my sales person now its going on 3 weeks to receive a replacement. so far I am very unhappy with the experience. I will update my review when I get a replacement.
