About this product
Originally titled InchIn the GrooveInch, this 1989 recording was released just weeks after pianist Art Monroe passed away from liver cancer. Art Monroe had a unique style and was among the most prominent jazz musicians in Washington DC during the late 1980's. He was able to play bop and sensitive ballads as shown on the four standards that are included on this set, but it is the 14 1/2 minute rendition of his InchCharlie's WaltzInch that features him at his most advanced.

1988 recording by Washington DC area piano trio led by Art Monroe with Paul Langosch - bass and Mike Smith - drums. Art was an important jazz figure and very talented and unique pianist in the DC area during the late 1980's and had a regular trio that worked together every week for many years. Monroe performs five originals and two standards, and the interplay between the fine pianist and his sidemen is impressive.
