The multiple award-winning dynamic double ribbon microphone M 160 is unique in terms of sound and production: delicate handcraft meets unique technical properties. With its low-coloring sound character, the M 160 has been refining hit after hit for decades. Precise bass reproduction, warm mids and silky, elegant highs complement each other in a unique sound. Microphone experts know: There is no alternative to the M 160.
The M 160 is ideal for miking electric guitar amplifiers. This is due on the one hand to the hypercardioid directional characteristic, which is unique for a ribbon microphone, and on the other hand to the special sound character. The M 160 is characterized by a warm sound. In addition, the M 160 can easily handle the loud sound pressures of a guitar amp and offers a signal that can be ideally processed further.
The M 160 is an excellent choice for miking a drum kit, be it for overhead, on the hi-hat or as a room microphone. Sharp sounds such as drum cymbals in particular are reproduced in a balanced manner. Thanks to their low mass, the two wafer-thin double ribbons ensure high impulse fidelity. Sounds with a strong attack are reproduced precisely thanks to the fast transient playback.
The M 160 impresses with a wide variety of sound sources. The wide frequency response of 40 - 18,000 Hz and the finely detailed sound are used not only for drum and amp microphones, but also on acoustic guitars, brass instruments and string instruments. For M/S stereophony, the M 160 can be combined with the dynamic double ribbon M 130, which has a directional pattern of eight.
The M 160 has the hypercardioid directional characteristic, which is exceptional for a ribbon. While signals arriving from the side and also from behind are partially reduced, sound arriving from the front is picked up preferentially. The backward cancellation is 25 dB at 110° and 250°.
