A: With Blueair products, you can breathe easy, with no increased danger from ozone. That’s because for 20 years, Blueair has been putting our air purifiers through independent tests to ensure that they do not release ozone. In fact, tests have shown that our products can actually lower ozone concentrations, with the ozone concentration in our system’s output air lower than in the incoming air. The tests are carried out in accordance with the California Air Resource Board (CARB) certification program, the most stringent requirements in the world for air purifiers. Working with Intertek, a CARB accredited test lab, Blueair products undergo a comprehensive series of tests to measure ozone emissions. In these 8-hour-long tests, air purifiers are tested on high and low speed – with and without the filter installed. The Intertek facility features environmental chamber technology, the most trusted and proven scientific method available for testing to see if products produce ozone. None of the Blueair products tested and investigated produced detectable ozone levels. Does an excellent job cleaning air in a room
As an HVAC contractor I’m very impressed with how well my Blueair works filtering the air as well its build quality. However I can’t review how the app works due to the long ping times on my satellite internet. It won’t work consistently. This has given me problems with other devices too. I was supposed to have fiber by “mid” December but I’m still waiting for it. I’ll add a comment to my review when it is installed and I properly test the app.. A couple of days after I got the Blueair my wife had bought some little pastry tarts and the plastic container’s lid popped back open and fell onto a hot stove eye I had just taken a pan off. It didn’t take long to smell it and see the smoke rising fast when I turned around. It didn’t catch fire but it sure smoked up the kitchen. I pulled the eye out with pliers I keep in a kitchen drawer, took it and the container and tossed them outside. In the kitchen came the Blueair and I turned it up to max. Within around 15 minutes there was NO Smoke odor anymore. I was Impressed!! Instructions and setup are pretty straight forward. It has a long cord which is a plus. It’s made from mostly metal instead of all plastic. Built in handles recessed in the top sides make it easy to take from room to room if needed. It has a blue power indicator LED on the front. The 280i can clean up the air and pretty quickly depending on how high you have the fan (actually a blower wheel) turned up. It pulls air into the filter in back and discharges out the top behind the controls to the left. So keep this in mind for where you choose to use the unit. It’s pretty quiet at the lowest speed setting but does get louder when you increase the fan speed as expected. The device’s specs for how many times per hour it recycles the air in a 279 SQR foot room is based on the fan on the high speed setting. The controls are under a cover on the top front of the unit. They are a membrane type and light up blue. They are pretty bright and could be annoying in a dark bedroom if the cover is left up. However, according to Blueair you can dim the LED indicators with the app. There are indicators for WiFi, Fan Speed, FIlter change due, Auto Mode, VOC Level and dust particle density. These indicators tell you: WiFi status, fan speed, when to change the filter and when the VOC and dust particle levels are high. Blue always means on or ok, orange means attention or warning. Gray (not illuminated) means off. See manual for more info. The 280i has built in sensors to monitor PM2.5, VOC, temperature/humidity. These are used when the unit is in auto mode and also with the app to tell you the unit’s performance. The 280i comes shipped with the better of two filter choices. However, after reading and studying the specs of the two at Blueair’s website it appears that only the more expensive of the two will remove volatile organic compounds (VOC). Breaths of fresher air
Blueair Purifier 200 Series What’s included: -Series 280i purifier -Hepa Filter There is not much included in the box but I did get everything to get me started. It’s nice to get a filter included but for the cost of the unit it would be nice to get more than one. Setup: To do basic setup without connecting to the app is very simple. All I had to do is remove the plastic off the filter, plug the unit in the outlet and power the fan speed. To connect the unit to my WiFi network was frustrating. Something seems to be wrong with the app because it is not working properly. I tried several times and carefully read and followed the instructions with no success. After about 3 hours I got lucky and I was connected. In my opinion I don’t think the app is necessary because all get to control is the fan speed and you have a log of the air quality. I have the speed on auto and I will probably never need to adjust it. If I do need to I also have the onboard buttons. Quality: The LED lights indicators are nicely done. I do have to say that I am impressed with the quality of the Blueair 280i. It is not plastic but instead steel which is nice and help justify the price. When I have the speed on low the fan is quiet but you can still hear it. The app indicates that I have excellent air quality before I started using it but I know it will help me with pollen allergies and pet dander. Insights: Since I was in the hunt for a air purifier I’m glad I was able to get a higher quality one. Since this only covers 279 square feet, I will be looking to add another especially if it improves my health. The app indicates that the filter lasts for 180 days which is about 6 months. With that in mind all you need is 2 filters a year. Cheapest price for the filter that fit my series 280i is $49.99. That is a little over $8 a month and if it works as advertised I think it’s a great price to pay. The Blueair 280i is easy to move around if you need to. It’s energy star certified and barely use energy on low fan speed. I say get it and set it on auto so you can enjoy it at every breath you take. Check out some of the pictures that I included.

BlueAir 280i Air Purifier
I have been looking for a new air purifier for a variety of reasons, not just for cleaner air due to covid. We opted for the 280i since the 279 sq foot limit matched the average size of our rooms. It’s average size for most similar units, it’s about 20 inches high, 8.5 inches deep at the front of the arc of the unit and a bit less than 18 inches wide. This thing is whisper quiet especially at fan speed 1 and even very soft at fan speed 2. Right now, we have it in our kitchen as this is where we have the most “smells”. I wanted to test it first in the room where we sometimes struggle with persistent odors. Even though we have a outside vented range hood, we still notice that for much of what we cook, the smells linger overnight. The first thing I noticed in using this device is that it has eliminated that problem. According to the specifications, it filters a room that size about 5 times an hour. As stated above, once we finish cooking things now, typically within 2 hours, most all of the odors have been eliminated. I really wanted to test this unit here first to test the true air/odor filtration and it seems to have met all my expectations. I plan to next test it in our bedroom to see how well it improves the air quality there as well as if it helps my allergies as our dog sleeps with us, lol. Setup was simple, just plug it in and turn it on. I did download the app from the Google Play store. It did take several attempts before I was able to get the app to connect to the unit. Once you do that, you can control fan speed. You can also view the status of your air through several different measurements ( PM1, PM 2.5, PM10, tVOC- all different particle sizes). The app will tell you what each one is. It also shows the measurements of these over time as well so you can track overall air quality over time. The only issue I have had and still have is frequently the app will loose connectivity to the unit even though the wifi light indicates that it is on the wifi. Most of the time I can stop and restart the app and it will connect. About 1/3 of the times this happens, I have to unplug and plug in the unit and it will then reconnect. I have loaded the BlueAir Classic skill on my Alexa and I can control the fan by increasing it, I can also query the air quality inside or outside based on my location. I can ask my filter status and when to change the filter. As for the filters, $49 bucks for replacements. They are supposed to last 6 months so I will have to see how that goes. I am hoping to get more than that out of them. If you sign up for their auto replacement program, they will extend your warranty for the life and ship them free along with a 15% discount. Overall I am pleased with this unit and assume that future app updates will eventually eliminate the wifi strangeness but in all honesty, the access panel is so simple and easy, its almost easier just to walk by it and change it if you need to up or down the fan speed.
