About This Item
Blusion® is a remarkably unmarketable blend of funk, Latin, blues, jazz hip-hop, rock, and reggae. Compatible with no existing commercial radio , too jazzy for blues promoters, too bluesy for jazz promoters, and much too 'whatever' for pop audiences, Blusion® serves as a warning to all those who would perhaps otherwise be tempted to attempt something new and different; they starve so that others may live. Blusion® has been performing their high energy, politico funky rough-jazz fusion throughout the Bay Area and beyond for the past twelve years. They have performed with or opened for such notable musicians as monster fusion and jazz drummer Steve Smith, fusion pioneers Spyro Gyra, singer songwriter Bonnie Hayes, guitar legend John Scofield, and blues/rock diva Lydia Pense, among others. Blusion's® most recent CD, Sign of the Times, was recorded in 2007 at Jane Clark Studios in Northern California. When you have someone like Jane Clark engineering your sessions you've got to know you're doing something right. Jane's background and credits speak for themselves. Thirteen years at Motown, twenty-four platinum and gold records and a long list of artists that include The Commodores, Lionel Richie, Jose Feliciano, Linda Tillery, Eric Bibb, Melanie DeMore, Tommy Malone, etc, etc, etc. Sign of the Times is Blusion's® unabashed sonic rendering of socio-political issues. The intent and mood of the CD didn't get past author, critic and activist Ron Jacobs. In his July 2007 review he succinctly stated, InchThe contrast between the lyrics and the music is slightly disconcerting if only because one isn't used to hearing dance tunes that call a pig a pig.Inch Jacobs continues, InchThere are a good number of politically inspired punk bands and a fair number of hip-hop artists that speak their minds, but there are very few (if any) political bands in the genre Blusion hails from.Inch
