I had high hopes for the Bose QC Ultra 2nd Gen headphones. They have great sound quality matched with supreme comfort and generally good noise cancellation functions. On top of that, they've added a lossless audio feature and a touch volume control bar, really positioning these to be market leading. But the first time I used these on an airplane, it was clear that they have a significant flaw in their active noise cancellation algorithm. Major bumps and bangs in the airplane (going through turbulence, as an example) cause a series of audible pops and clicks that make these borderline unusable in that scenario. I may have a faulty unit, but spending two minutes online has uncovered this as a significant flaw in Bose's design of these headphones. Unfortunately, I didn't discover this issue inside the return window so I guess I'm stuck with these. Had I known, I'd have opted for the Sony XM6, which is a shame because those aren't as comfortable. Overall, very disappointed in Bose for this headset as it's one major flaw away from being a perfect headset for me.

Preface: I LOVE Bose sound quality and have been using their headphones for over 10 years, however, the QC Ultra Gen2 headphones have the same issue as Gen1: Bose expects you to just take them off your head and let them auto disconnect from your devices, but this auto disconnect doesn't consistently work. Many times the headphones stay connected and audio plays through the headphones even when they aren't on your ears. Very annoying. Like the Gen1, I returned the Gen2 and say with my Sony MX5 until Bose changes this behavior.

Hey Jobey, we're delighted to hear that you're a long-time Bose fan, and love the sound quality of the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen)! The headset has two features which you will find helpful and address your feature request.
The headphones will indeed disconnect from your devices after 3 seconds when they are removed from your head, and with the earcups laid flat or when they are stored in the case. If they are removed from your head and left in any other orientation, they will disconnect from your devices after 10 minutes. The headphones will immediately reconnect when you place the headphones back on your head.
If you'd instead like to just pause audio when you're on the go, on-head detection in the headphones are enabled to pause and resume audio when simply lifting or placing back the right ear cushion. If you'd like any further product set-up help, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We'd be happy to help make sure you're getting the most from all the features of the headset!

I had the previous version of these and so I ordered these when I needed to update/upgrade. There were not well made, comparatively and cost $100 more. Bose sound is really good but the structure was made with cheaper materials and was not sturdy and substantial. They felt like you had to handle them delicately to avoid them breaking. Very disappointed as I was excited to get them.

As someone who was upgrading from the First gen. I'm actually disappointed in some ways how this is a downgrade. First off the ear cuffs were somehow more uncomfortable than the last model and I was starting to feel pain around the ear and in turn, was starting to get a headaches from wearing it, and what makes it even worst is that I bought 3rd party replacements for the ear cushions on the gen 1 and that gave me a better cushion than the new ones. And because I'm upgrading from the previous version, there is no one to justify paying again over 450 dollars for a worst version of headphones in terms of comfort. And the fact that the Gen 2 should not even be called gen 2, this a gen 1.5 upgrade that's somehow charging the price of a new version. Deeply disappointed this time around.

These headphones are good when they work. They are just not reliable. One day they work well with a call, the next the day, the voice is distorted.

The QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) provide our best noise cancellation performance to date. The feature is designed to reduce external sounds, and when used without music or audio, you may notice a faint sound similar to white noise. This is normal and indicates the technology is actively working.
For the best experience, we recommend trying noise cancellation while playing music or other audio content, as this is when the feature truly shines. If you’d like, you can also explore the Noise Cancellation Levels in the Bose Music app to customize the experience to your preference.
