I purchased these headphones so I could hear while exercising and have a routine alternative to the ear wax collecting AirPods. I was very impressed with the sound quality of the open ear design upon initial listening in my car. The Spatial Audio sounded amazing and immersive when listening to voice audio and some songs. After some use, I found I was losing sound quality if I didn’t adjust the headphones just right in my ear, I could never seem to consistently find the sweet spot. Phone calls are absolutely horrible due to the low quality microphone. I contacted Bose about the issue and they had no resolution to the problem and could only offer to swap the device; the issue is the components not my item specifically. Needless to say, I talk all call directly on my phone when I’m using these. The case is built with surprisingly low quality plastic. The lid feels like it can be easily crushed or broken with the wrong move unlike the AirPods case. Sometimes the headphones will lose synchronization between each other resulting in audio in only one bud which can only be resolved by placing the pods back in the case. The battery life is sufficient and I can use the device all day without needing a charge. They are comfortable and it’s easy to forget you have them one. In loud outdoor spaces like walking downtown or in a mall the audio is very washed out. When I use these in quite location they are great for listening to YouTube, podcast and music. The audio profile is rather good when you have the on properly and there’s no excessive noise. I do use them for casual listening to audio content as I stroll around the house or in the city because I can still interact with people while I have background music playing and I avoid the ear wax magnets (AirPod). I would not recommend these for travel, gym or as wireless phone. They are great for running and casual listening in low to moderate noise environments. I personally would not buy them again unless Bose fixed the mic issue.

Thanks for your review of the Ultra Open Earbuds, Michael!
I'm very happy to hear that you like the earbuds' OpenAudio and Immersive Audio sound technology, as well as their comfort and battery performance.
The charging case is designed to be durable and to protect your earbuds; nonetheless, I would recommend handling the case with general care. If you're finding it difficult to maintain the perfect fit, the following article will help you to wear and adjust your earbuds correctly: https://support.bose.com/s/display-articles?productId=01t8c00000OlcI5AAJ&articleId=ka08c000001pWLKAA2&language=en_US.
As for phone calls, Bose has recently released firmware update 4.0.22 (and later) to improve the customer's experience on calls. Therefore, make sure you're using the latest firmware; the Bose app will announce all new firmware versions, so that you can download them.

The headset is very comfortable, lightweight, and easy to use while sounding great when listening to music. I tend to use them mainly for calls which is where it fell short big time. They let in way too much background noise to a point that had people asking me if I had a different set to use or they would get irritated by the noise they were hearing. This really made the price too high. Would love for Apple and Beats to try their hand at open ear.

I was excited to purchase these. I thought they were a bit pricey, but considering the brand I said it was worth it. The design is perfect, considering I didn't want anything directly in my ear due to moisture retention. I'm extremely active, I work out a lot (so I sweat a lot). I would recommend this style for anyone who has a history of ear infection!!! They are lightweight, when I was running/ working out I couldn't tell I had them in my ear. I'm able to multitask so I like the idea of being able to listen to my music and still hear whats going on around me (so these were perfect) however, if you cannot focus or deal with a lot of noise at one time, these are not for you because (they don't go directly in your ear, so you still hear everything going on around you). Again, they do not cancel out anything going on around you and I had a few people complain that they could hear everything in my background. Unfortunately I had to return them on the 14th day because I could barely hear the individual on the other end. I watched a great deal of videos on YouTube. I played with the app and the settings, but I had no success. This could have been just a faulty pair. I was able to hear the music louder than my voice calls. I also don't like the volume setting, the volume should be much louder. I am a gadget person, I love the design, the variety of colors they come in, and the app was easy to set up. I would consider purchasing them again

Hey Tiffany, we're delighted to hear that you love the lightweight, comfortable, and secure fit of the Ultra Open Earbuds!
While we understand you've since decided to return the product, we may encourage you to test using the product with other devices to identify the root of your issue given that music audio was louder than voice, meaning there may be a device-specific setting on your phone to adjust. For future Bose support, please don't hesitate to contact our helpful service team and we'd be glad to resolve your issue.

TL;DR too expensive for something that is barely mid-quality. This is my first pair of open earbuds and they’re not bad. I was using AirPod Pro 2 earbuds with my iPhone 15 Pro Max, but they kept falling out of my ear—even with all the options for tips and 3rd party tips. These seemed like the perfect thing: attach directly to the ear so they don’t fall out, open-concept so I can still hear my surroundings, and they’re multi-device capable. Sadly, that’s about where the benefits end. Pros: -They never fall out -The battery life is about 6-8 hours per charge -Open-ear design is neat -Sound quality is still decent Cons: -The design can hurt the ears after extended use -They absolutely suck for phone calls (when they actually do connect to the call, people can barely hear me) -Multi-device pairing mostly works, but randomly decides not to work more often than not. -The case doesn’t support wireless charging (as advertised) unless you buy a separate case cover. It is mostly just frustrating to pay this much money for headphones that don’t deliver. I’ve mostly gone back to using my old AirPods and just dealt with them falling out because call quality is better, multi-device connection is more reliable, and I don’t have to worry about them randomly disconnecting from my primary device.

Thanks for sharing your honest experience, it’s really helpful for others considering open earbuds for the first time. We’re glad to hear you appreciated the secure fit, battery life, and open-ear design. Those are definitely standout features for people who want situational awareness and comfort.
That said, your feedback on call quality, multi-device pairing reliability, and the lack of wireless charging without an extra accessory is important.
The microphone issues you're encountering can often be resolved with proper placement and adjustment of the earbuds. Since the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds use an open-ear design, positioning is key to ensuring optimal mic performance during calls. Here's a troubleshooting guide that might help: http://bose.life/4mO3Idl
For the connectivity issues, clearing the product memory of previously paired Bluetooth devices can often resolve the problem. This helps reset the connection and allows for a fresh pairing experience.
Here’s a detailed guide on how to do this: http://bose.life/46ErYdd
Regarding the wireless charging feature, it’s important to note that the charging case is not included by default. Instead, the wireless charging case cover is offered as an optional accessory for customers who prefer that convenience. You can find this information listed under the “What’s in the Box” section.
We hope this clears things up!

They are very lightweight and comfortable. Sound is amazing, as all bose sound should be. However, when you make a call, the person you call can barely hear you. I've adjusted every type of setting to try to make it clearer on the other end. Nothing works. Also, they pick up all of the outside noise from the person calling with these as well. I purchased two sets, one for me and for my husband. When wearing them and calling each other, we could barely hear each other, but I could hear everything around him. Sadly will be returning and trying something different. They are great, if all you use them for is listening to music. Not worth $300 to only listen to music.

The Bose open-ear earbuds are comfortable and impressively lightweight, and the open-ear design is excellent for staying aware of your surroundings. They’re easy to wear for long periods and great for walking, working outside, or commuting when you don’t want to block ambient sound. Sound quality is good for what they are, but don’t expect deep bass or the immersive feel of traditional earbuds or over-ear headphones. Music sounds clear, especially vocals and podcasts, but at higher volumes there’s some sound leakage and the overall punch just isn’t there. Connectivity is solid and pairing was quick, though the price feels high for what you get compared to other options in this category. Battery life is decent but not amazing, and the controls can take a little getting used to. Overall, these are nice for casual listening and awareness-focused use, but if you’re looking for powerful audio or true noise isolation, you may want to explore other options.

I wear glasses and was looking for earbuds that I did not have to stick inside my ears. I tried many other brands but found them uncomfotable when I had my glasses on. hese are very comfortable over ear buds they stay in place and you forget you are wearing them. The sound quality is good you can adjust the base and treble and mids when you download the app. I have 2 issues with them the price is kind of expensive I got them on sale so I saved a little but they are really expensive. The other issue is the volume could be a little louder when you are outside or in a noisy area the sound kind of gets lost for the money I paid they should be a little louder. I would recommend them if you wear glasses and need a comfortable ear bud that you dont have to put into your ear.

Hi Timothy, thank you for sharing your experience with the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds. We’re glad to hear that you found them comfortable to wear with glasses and appreciated the secure fit and customizable sound through the app. It’s very common for the volume or audio performance to feel interrupted in noisy environments, especially outdoors, given the open‑ear design of the Ultra Open Earbuds. This design prioritizes comfort and situational awareness, which can sometimes make external noise more noticeable. One option you might try is using a different music app that allows enhanced volume or EQ adjustments, or enjoying them in less noisy settings for the best experience. We truly appreciate your insights.

I have different needs for headsets depending on what listening or speaking experience I am seeking. When I need to be aware of my surroundings but am not in a loud environment, I prefer to use open-ear style headphones. Thus, I was eager to try out Ultra Open Earbuds by Bose. I like open-ear style headphones for conference calls or while on calls in my car, but have been unhappy with the lack of fullness when listening to music and that bass is almost non-existent. However, with these Ultra Open Earbuds, I was pleasantly surprised with how much bass there was. The immersive audio experience was one of the best of all of my headphones, and the best of my open-ear style headphones. Unfortunately the battery life was diminished when the immersive audio was active, and environmental noise had a greater impact on hearing music. I like that Bose chose to use physical button controls, since many of the touch controls on headphones are not very responsive. The ear cuff design is comfortable and was great to wear for long periods of time. These would be great for anyone with small ears where earbuds may not fit or cause a lot of pressure and pain (see photos). The biggest negatives of this headset are an odd resonance sound heard by the phone call receivers and no multi-source use for Bluetooth to date. A few people I spoke with on the phone reported my voice was clear but had an odd, echoey sound, as if I was in an empty room. I would use a different design if I were looking for audiophile sound, wanted crystal clear calls on both ends, or was in a noisy environment. Pros Best bass for open ear design Button controls Great immersive audio experience Comfortable to wear for long periods Cons Receiver hears resonance No multi-source at once for now Not good for loud environments Overall, I would recommend these headphones. The design works well for many ear types and the music sounds great.

Hello,
Thank you for sharing your experience with the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds.
I am happy to hear that you love their design, immersive audio and comfort, but sorry you are not fully satisfied of them during calls or in certain environments.
If you are still having this issue during a call, please try to place a new call after resetting the earbuds, following these steps: https://support.bose.com/s/display-articles?productId=01t8c00000OlcI5AAJ&articleId=ka08c000001bufcAAA&language=en_US
Also, by design, the open earbuds don’t block out the noises around you or have noise cancellation. They do have an automatic volume control feature, accessible in the Bose Music app, that helps you hear your music evenly as your environment changes from quiet to loud and back. But in very noisy environments where noise cancelling is helpful, it is possible that the outside world could overrun the content playing.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our support team: https://bose.life/contact

These earbuds are ideal in theory but fail on some very basic features. The good- The sound from these buds is pretty full. They're not as good as what you would get from an over the ear or traditional earbud, but they do the job well enough. They're a bit heavy on mid-range but I wouldn't say it's an issue. They get louder than you might expect and maintain good fidelity. Even better, they don't plug your ears so you can maintain full awareness. It's easy to have conversation with them at lower volumes and with the immersion feature, it can feel like ambient music you'd hear in a bar or hotel lobby. The immersion feature also adds a bit of depth to whatever you're listening to. They're lightweight and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. They're also remarkably stable when moving, including running. Battery life is pretty good and they charge quickly. Generally they last me pretty much a whole work day and some. The OK- The volume adjustment is a little clunky. Requiring a tap then press and hold. I frequently use these while cycling so it's more convenient to use my phone to change volume. Also being able to tap the device rather than having to press the button would be better. The bad- The microphone is TERRIBLE. I can barely use them sitting still in a quiet room and have people hear me clearly. Any other conditions are a complete no-go. I've recorded myself using them on my phone and the quality and consistency is awful. Not good if you're on the phone or virtual meetings a lot. This is super disappointing at this price point. They don't support "Hey Siri." You can still use that feature if your device is within earshot, but for the price, this is disappointing. I've had many issues with the buds not properly syncing with each other which can only be resolved by turning off Bluetooth on my device and turning it back on. If your main thing is listening to music, these are fine but there are better options at this price.

Pros: looks good, good sound quality and bass is good for small wireless headphones, great for hearing music and environment, you can adjust eq through the app, has physical buttons for easy play/pause, skip, repeat, and volume control cons: expensive for what you get, connectivity issues. sometimes it takes a few seconds for one ear bud to connect, sometimes connectivity is a bit staticky. i’ve owned many headphones and never had staticky issues on any. i’m surprised to see it in a premium headphone. battery life isn’t near as good as advertised, for bigger ears it does hurt after wearing it for few hours. conclusion: overall i would recommend if budget isn’t an issue and if you are wearing it no longer than few hours a day. not meant for all day battery life or comfort.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the sound quality, bass performance, and the convenience of the physical controls and EQ adjustments. The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds were designed to fit most ear sizes and to be suitable for people who want to enjoy music while staying aware of their surroundings. For reference, the battery life is up to 7 hours with Immersive Audio off, 4 hours with Immersive Audio on, 3 hours with both Immersive Audio and Auto Volume on, and up to 19.5 hours with a fully charged case. If you’re experiencing shorter battery life, we have a helpful guide available to optimize performance. (https://bose.life/4cxcYiU)
Regarding Bluetooth connectivity, disconnections can occur for several reasons, such as moving too far from the paired device (Bluetooth typically works within about 30 feet), interference from nearby devices like Wi‑Fi routers or microwaves, outdated drivers or firmware, or power‑saving settings that limit Bluetooth performance. Pairing with multiple devices at once or rare hardware faults can also cause repeated drops. Environmental factors, such as crowded areas with many wireless signals, and mismatched Bluetooth versions may further contribute. To improve stability, we recommend keeping devices close together, updating firmware and software, disabling battery saver mode, disconnecting unused pairings, and restarting both devices to clear temporary glitches.
Your feedback is very valuable to us as it helps highlight areas where we can improve. Thank you again for sharing your experience and for being part of the Bose community.

Theses are very comfortable, sometimes forget I’m wearing them. Sound quality is solid enough for open ear. Durability is bad, especially for the charger. Was great for a few months and then kept getting bad connection and headphones not charging. Then sounds quality started to fade or interruptions happened more often. These were largely used for workouts and during work. While working they were great, guessing the sweat is what made them breakdown, which is unfortunate because should be awesome for that

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Bose Ultra Open earbuds. We’re glad to hear that you found them incredibly comfortable and appreciated the solid sound quality, especially during workouts and work sessions. While these earbuds are designed for active use, exposure to sweat and moisture can sometimes affect long-term reliability, especially around sensitive components like the charging contacts.
To help maintain optimal performance of your Bose earbuds, it's important to follow a few care and maintenance steps. First, gently clean the charging contacts with a dry cloth to remove any residue that may interfere with proper charging. Next, check for firmware updates using the Bose app, as updates often include performance improvements and bug fixes. Lastly, after workouts or exposure to moisture, be sure to store the earbuds in a dry, cool place to prevent any long-term damage caused by sweat or humidity. Hope it helps!

I've had these for about 2 weeks now and I think the sound on them are really good for what they are. Open ear headphones. I ride the metro so these are perfect for staying aware of my surroundings. The volume levels are great but I have noticed that sometimes a drop in volume at times. I could be listening to something and it sounds crystal clear at about 70% volume, but sometimes (in the same environment) I would be at 150% volume and can barely hear anything. I've had to close out all apps and restart my phone and the sound would go back to normal. I've had one connectivity issue so far where my phone would not connect again to these earbuds for approximately 20 minutes. I restarted my phone, disconnected the headphones from my device, placed the headphone back into the case and nothing. It wasn't until about 20 minutes in the case and it began working again. And yes they were at 100 % battery. I had just finished charging them and was headed to grab lunch but they wouldn't connect. I want to give these a higher review but right now I see a few problems happening in just a little over 2 weeks and I hope they don't continue. If the problems don't persist in the next few months I will gladly bump up the rating on the review.

I bought these right after Thanksgiving, set them up and wore them once. I was impressed with the sound quality, how light and comfortable they were, and being able to switch from my phone to my laptop as a source. Literally the very next morning, after I let them charge the left earbud didn't work, I followed all of Bose instructions with a re-sync and then a factory reset. The left bud seemingly was lost, it wouldn't recognize or sync at all. So I played around with it, I put it on the right ear spot and it showed to be charging, I figured out the contacts for the left earbud were not making contacts. I thought I had it remedied, however the next day at the gym not only did the left not sync initially but it had near zero charge. So 3 stars is a tad generous, however, when they work they are fantastic, even in loud environments (unlike some have said), and i really like them in the gym. These things don't fall out!

Although this product has an innovative design and great sound quality, that's where it ends. The fit is perfect, and the open earbuds really allow you to be aware of your surroundings. They're great for hiking, running, and other activities. However, the mic quality is absolutely horrendous, even after updating the product. No matter the conditions in which the call is taken, the other person won't be able to hear you clearly (it sounds like you're in a bathroom or below deck in a boat). I thought I received a defective product, so I exchanged it. Nope. The mic is still horrible. Yes, I've tried Shokz and other competitors, but the sound quality in these is unmatched for an open-earbud design. If you don't care about taking calls while you have these in, it's a great product. The price target should be more in the $150 range due to the mics and cheap plastic case. If you want wireless charging, you'll have to spend another $50 for the compatible case. If Bose could stop releasing several different colors and focus on the mics, this would be an amazing set of open earbuds.

Hi Chris, thanks for your review of the Ultra Open Earbuds! I'm glad you like their innovative open-ear design and sound quality.
As for the earbuds' mic quality, if installing the latest firmware update doesn't help, make sure the mic holes on your buds are not being blocked by anything. Also, try your earbuds with a different mobile device, just to compare performance there.
As to the charging case, we can confirm that the case is carefully designed, and will not break if handled with general everyday care. It's true that for this product, the wireless charging case cover is available separately.
Warm regards
