  • Key Specs
    • Effective Pixels: 16.1 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • General
    • Brand: Canon
    • Model Number: 9543B001
    • Product Name: PowerShot SX60 HS 16.1-Megapixel Digital Camera
    • Color: Black
    • Digital Camera Type: Point and Shoot Cameras
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 4608 x 3456 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Zoom Capability: true (This function allows for magnification of the subject.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): JPEG (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: 1 - 1/2000 sec.; TV and M modes: 15 - 1/2000 sec. (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Brightness Control: false (Allows the camera to adjust the brightness of a captured image for optimal exposure.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Self Timer: true
    • Self-Timer Delay: 10 seconds
    • Shooting Modes: C1, C2, M, Av, Tv, P, hybrid auto, auto, creative shot, sports, portrait, smart shutter (smile, wink self-timer, face self-timer), handheld night scene, low light, snow and fireworks, plus movie modes (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Panorama Mode: false
    • White Balance Modes: Auto, daylight, shade, cloudy, tungsten, fluorescent, fluorescent H, flash, custom 1, custom 2 (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
    • Effective Pixels: 16.1 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • Lens
    • In-Lens Image Stabilization: true (This feature helps reduce image blurring from camera motion. Lens stabilization means an element within the lens moves automatically to counteract detected motion.)
  • Flash
    • Flash Modes: Automatic (The flash feature emits light to increase the brightness of a subject in dimly lit environments. Common modes include Auto and Red-Eye Reduction.)
    • Integrated Flash: true
  • Display
    • Display Type: LCD
    • Screen Size: 3 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
    • Screen Resolution: 16.1 MP (Screens come in a range of resolutions (measured in pixels, horizontal x vertical). The higher the resolution, the greater the picture quality.)
    • Viewfinder Type: Electronic (A viewfinder is the part of a camera (or attachment) that allows you to see and focus a scene in frame. Optical viewfinders let you view the scene directly through the lens. Electronic viewfinders display the image on a screen in its approximate final form.)
    • Touch Screen: false (Touch-screen devices make navigating more intuitive. Using a touch-screen display, you can do things such as tap to select, hold and drag to move items, swipe to scroll, and pinch to zoom.)
  • Video
    • HDR Mode: true (HDR Mode uses multiple photos taken at different exposures to add more dynamic range to photographs. HDR technology displays content with greater contrast between bright and dark, resulting in clearer and more lifelike images.)
    • Slow Motion Recording: false

Q: Will the SX60 Cannon take good long range lanscape pictures

A: Yes it can, however I would strongly suggest a tri-pod for long zoom shots. Beyond 35x zoom it becomes nearly impossible to hold the camera still enough to focus. When I'm using this camera for long range zoom I always have a Monopod which helps a great deal and is much easier to carry arround than a tri-pod.

Q: What is the best memory Card

A: 64GB should be an ample amount of storage for casual use as you listed. We do a lot of touring and birding as you mentioned. We use two cameras. One is the SX60 and the other is a Canon T3i. The SX60 is probably used 2-3 times as much as the T3i. Some weeks we may take as many as 2,000+ pics. We use two different "Scandisk" cards. One is an 80mb/sec and the other is a 48mb/sec 32GB. We have used these cards for 6 months or so in both cameras and haven't encountered any problems. There was a high speed card available but our Best Buy associate said he didn't recommend it with our cameras. Hope this helps.

Q: How do you charge the. SX 60 and how do you upload to a Windows pc

A: Charging - Remove the battery and use the supplied charger. Upload to a Windows PC. You can use the WI-FI connectivity, or You can take the memory card out or You can use a standard USB to USB Mini cable. (not supplied) Instructions are in the manual available for download from Canon

Q: Does the SX60 shoot raw?

A: Yes, It will save images in CR2 format, This is one of Canon's raw formats. Using RAW does prevent the use of the digital zoom features.

Q: Need to email photos frequently-can this camera downsize to 640 x 480?

A: Yes, the SX60 will take photos at 640 x 480 (0.3 MP) resolution, along with 19 other switchable sizes ranging from 4608 x 3456 (15.9 MP) down to 384 x 480 (0.2 MP).

Q: Does this camera have a tripod mount?

A: Yes. It has a tripod mount. I used it for Christmas. Worked great!

Q: Will this camera be able to take video at a concert with sound and picture ?

A: Yes. It depends on your purpose of recording. If you are recording it for personal purposes, then you can do it with what you have in this camera. If you are doing it for professional purposes, you should use external mic for better audio recording.

Q: Your website says '65x optical/65x digital/4225x total zoom' But I checked in Canon website it says 4x Digital Zoom for this camera. I am confused now.

A: Digital zoom is basically the computer in the camera zooming in. You lose a lot of quality. This cam has a 65x or 1350mm lens. You don't need the digital zoom. I bought the camera and immediately disabled the digital.
