All too often, I have a nice bottle of wine but don’t want to commit to finishing the entire bottle before it goes bad. I’ve tried the hand vacuum seal tops but nothing seams to actually preserve the wine. Along comes Coravin in a blog post and my interests were piqued. Pros: • Truly allows 1 glass servings • Easy to use • Nice case Cons: • Pricey upfront cost • Pricey refills, but one capsule is expected to last a few 2-3 bottles • Must be real cork or screw top. No synthetic cork. A very well thought out solution to a problem I've always had. I went with the Model 6 for the fact that it comes with a carrying case. The case can easily protect your Coravin along with more argon gas and screw top adaptors. I can easily carry this to a dinner party or keep it protected in the case in the cupboard. Very easy to get started. Upon opening of the box, you are greeted with a QR code that links you to their training vids. The argon gas capsules are easy to install and cleaning of the needle is straight forward. The process is quite simple. Pick your bottle of wine with a natural cork, cut the foil and press down on the Coravin to pierce the cork. Press the level a few times to pressurize and out comes the wine. After pouring, remove the Coravin and the cork will naturally seal the hole and the argon gas will not oxidize or ruin the flavor of your wine. They have claimed that you can store it for months to even years afterwards. Their phone app is also worth downloading. It has wine pairings with recipes. It also allows you to catalog your wine collection with a photo taken from your cell camera. I do highly recommend the Coravin for any wine love that doesn’t want to commit to finishing the entire bottle in one sitting. Knowing that I can pick and choose from my wine collection to pair with my meals is a game changer.

This wine preservation system is very well-designed and easy to use. I was a little intimidated at first, since it looked a little complicated, but once I understood how it worked. I was surprised at how simple it was to use. It feels sturdy, and capable of being used for years to come. Care seems to have been taken in each piece that was included. The carrying case (which is also great to store it in our kitchen drawer), the screw-on caps to the unit itself. How well the system works, even with screw-on cap bottles is very impressive. You just remove the lid from the bottle and put on one of the reusable ones that came with the Coravin system and the needle just stabs through it. It all works very well. Cleaning is easy as well, you just run a bit of water through it and purge the system with a quick spray. Overall, I think the only thing about this that I can count against it is the speed a which the wine is dispensed. It can be a bit slow. I saw that Coravin offers a large needle/pin to provide quicker flow, so I think we’ll give that a shot. The replacement caps for the screw-on bottles and the air capsules aren’t overly expensive either. Otherwise, this seems like an excellent way to preserve and still enjoy your wine. Pros: Very easy to use, well-made, elegant looking and thoughtful design, reasonable priced air capsule and screw-on cap replacements Cons: Speed at which wine is dispensed is a bit slow (though this can be modified with a larger pin/needle)

I am not a wine snob or a wine connoisseur, but I do like to have a glass of a smokey red wine that might be aged in a whiskey barrel. But in my household, I am the only one. My wife and my family like the light fruity wines that do not have any imagination to them. I usually open a bottle and over some time, maybe get two or three glasses out of it before it becomes acidic and not worth drinking. I came across the Coravin system, which has been a complete game changer. If you’re not familiar with the system, it is basically a wine opener that doesn’t remove the cork but pushes a needle thru the cork that you pour from. It then adds Argon gas to the bottle to help preserve the wine, so no air gets to it. You then remove needle and the bottle sits on your shelf like a new bottle until you are ready for the next glass. You do not taste or realize that the argon gas is in the bottle. It initially looks intimidating to use, but their website is put together very well, and the videos and tutorials really make using it easy. They have an app to use with an I-Phone, they do not have one for Android. There are several different versions to choose from, I have the Coravin Model 6 which comes with three of the Argon canisters which are good for about 15 glasses each. It also comes with a nice carrying case that everything fits into. Another feature that the system has is that it comes with 2 reusable screw-on tops that you can use to replace your screw on wine top, you would then use the system as you would with the cork, but you would insert the needle into the reusable top. They say these screw on tops are good for about 15 uses. I am really excited about this purchase; I feel like now I can drink the wine I want to drink without worrying about it going bad. I will feel more comfortable buying wine that cost a little more without the dread of wasting it.

This wine preservation system does is exactly what you need if you need to preserve your bottle of wine why you sip it down. I am a person who once I open the bottle I finish the bottle and this system is not made for those types of people or that type of bottle of wine. If you like to sip down wine this is the system for you. It will save you money in the long run as your bottle will stay preserved for well over a year with how this is designed. It uses argon gas to preserves your wine in a really cool method. Most wines use a cork and this system has a needle that go through your cork that allows the system to pump argon gas into your wine which then makes the wine pour into your glass. After the first time you use it you will understand how it works. Its pretty simple but hard to explain. You then can remove the system and take the needle out without ever having to pop the cork. Its pretty cool how it uses argon gas to preserve the wine rather than trying to vacuum seal. This will out beat any vacuum system any day because your wine will never touch air until it hits your glass. Also, you can use this system on multiple bottles as you can easily put the needle through any cork and remove it. It does come with a few caps for bottles of wine that uses a cap with a resealable type silicone so you won't have to reopen. The only problem with this is that your wine will touch air but remember thats only for screw top bottle which are usually cheaper bottles of wine. Your not buying this for a cheap bottle of wine but to rather save and savor your good bottles for as long as possible. I highly recommend this system if you have quality bottles of wine that you want to sip overtime and preserve or if you want to enjoy a bottle over over a longer period of time than normal. The cons I have is that I wish this had an aerator included and some type of stand. Without a stand its kind of hard to put this system somewhere when you are not using it. I usually just put the coravin back in its bag when not in use. Finally, I wish the bottles of argon were a little bit bigger. Each one has enough air for 3 bottles. The coravin is long so I feel like a longer bottle of argon to be able to fill 5-6 bottles of wine would have been better. Screw tops! Do not use this system with screw tops. I test one bottle with a screw top and 3 weeks later it was no good. Like I said before you don't use this system for screw tops. I would only use it for corked bottles. When I used a corked bottle it tasted just as fresh two weeks later. These reasons/cons are why I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars. The photos I used are with the screw top bottle as I was testing to see how long a screw top will last. As I found out not very long. Don't worry your cork bottle will be safe!

The Coravin Model Six is one of the most useful things I own today. You see, I do enjoy an occasional glass of cabernet sauvignon...with my favorite rare steak. And that's it. So what do I do with the rest of the wine bottle?! Have more steak! But that gets old, so I'll probably want to have another glass, say, in a couple of weeks or a couple of months...when I have steak. By that time, my already uncorked bottle of Napa Valley goodness is no bueno. That's where this fantastic piece of engineering comes in to save the day. Quite simple to use, no uncorking required. Just seat the SmartClamps around the neck of the bottle, prime the pour lever to let off some gas, and push the needle down through the cork. The design mechanics are both simple and brilliant. Tilt the Coravin Six's spout lower than the bottle itself and press the lever to release some argon gas...then release the lever. The pressure built from releasing the gas into the bottle then forces liquid back through the needle and out of the Six's spout into your wine glass. That’s it. I’ve learned that the longer you hold the lever down, the more wine will pour out. I typically hold it for about 1-2 seconds and let the Coravin do the rest. Pushing argon gas into the wine bottle (and keeping oxygen out!) prevents oxidation, which helps keep wine fresh much, much longer. That’s the science behind it. The model Six is a premium looking product with chrome accents and rubber grips to help with pouring. The SmartClamps are matte black and feel very sturdy, especially while attached to the bottle's neck. Keeping the Coravin clean and maintained is quite simple. Rinse the spout and needle under running water, let off some gas to clear the needle, and pat dry. That's it! The Six comes with 3 argon gas capsules. Each argon gas capsule is rated to pour up to 15 glasses, and this more than enough for me. It also comes with screw caps for those bottles of wine that are not corked. That’s pretty cool, but the screw cap will only keep the wine good for about 3 months; the corked bottles will go much longer. The carry pouch is a nice touch if you decide to transport it. My complaints? It does pour a little slow, but I know there is a fast pour needle that I can purchase to remedy that. But why do I have to buy a different needle for that? Also, I found that with each pierce into the cork, I sometimes end up getting a couple of cork fragments into my glass. It's not the Coravin's fault, but the quality of the cork. So I suggest you clear the needle before pouring your first glass, just to be sure. My use case for drinking wine may be different from yours, but the bottom line is if you don’t intend to finish a bottle of wine within a few days, then this product is for you.
