Q: What are the dimensions for the 4 compartments?
A: Each side has an adjustable shelf, so the dimensions are whatever you make them. Each half, if you were to leave the shelves out, is 15.5 x 23.75. The divider down the center is fixed, that can't be moved. The shelves themselves are .75 in. thick, and can be adjusted independently, all 4 compartments don't have to be the same size.
Q: how much does the unit weigh?
A: It weighs 55 pounds.
A: The entertainment unit itself is actually considered a TV Stand. We have a 55" TV on the unit at our condo. We purchased this unit since it was narrow and we didn't want for it to occupy too much space. Hope this answers your question.

Q: Do the legs need to be installed? I need a stand that will sit flat on carpet.
A: The legs are really feet. And they are required for proper assembly.
Q: Would it be OK with a 46" TV? If not why?
A: The table has a long width and comfortably fit our TV. It would definitely fit a 46" no problem. May be a little more than you need though.
