I have never owned a Denon product before but I have always been conscious of their brand quality and popularity. So I was excited to experience their sound with their new Home 600 Wireless Smart Speaker System. My excitement turned to disappointment pretty quickly, though. Initially, my greatest problem was with crazy equalization that overemphasized the bass with thready treble. I was finally able to resolve that problem with the HEOS app (a truly terrible app) where I found that the sound for this speaker was defaulting to a surround simulation setting that was butchering the sound for every type of music I fed to it. The sound controls allow for very simple adjustments to your “acoustic environment” by controlling bass, treble, width, and height – but all settings inserted audio characteristics that were unbearable. Sound quality between Bluetooth and aux inputs were similar to one another but I found that my Bluetooth connection was always very sketchy. My good Bluetooth headphones can connect to my phone with no degradation of quality over the expanse of my gym, but this speaker was constantly getting patchy reception from 6’ away. And I found this to be the case using three different Bluetooth sources. Finally, I found the sound to be very good at best – never excellent. I expected much better sound from Denon. But the Bluetooth problems I experienced are shockingly bad – I absolutely do not recommend!
