I wanted to like this speaker. I really did. I'm a big fan of Denon. I've had numerous receivers and amplifiers of theirs over the years and Denon always made a quality product. So when this speaker came available I just knew I was going to love it like my previous Denon gear. Unfortunately this ended up not being the case. The speaker is a good size, but not too big to fit on a shelf. I put it on a wire shelf in my kitchen. Set up wasn't too difficult. You just download the Heos app and add your music sources. I started out with Sirius XM and added my favorite stations. This is a fairly straightforward process. My wife had more trouble than I did since she just uses Sirius XM in her car and didn't know what her password was. But she was able to connect to the speaker by accessing Sirius on her phone and then streaming to the speaker via Bluetooth. After adding Sirius XM to the homepage of the Heos app it was time to do some listening. Unfortunately the sound modes available are pretty bare bones. You can only select Auto, which uses the Atmos soundfield processing or Pure, (I believe it is), that gives a more direct audio presentation without any processing. The bad news about the Pure mode is that plays at about half the volume as the Auto mode. So even though it might be a more accurate representation of the music you are listening to, it is so anemic that I always ended up switching back to Auto. The only parameters you can adjust is Bass and Treble. But even with me turning up the Treble all the way, the high frequencies are pretty lacking. The speaker does put out a very good amount of mid bass, especially for its size. But as far as sound quality, the old saying about Bose speakers, "Got no highs, got no lows, must be Bose" unfortunately applies to this speaker. It has good midrange and good mid-bass, but does not produce good low bass or high frequencies. This is probably fine for the Tik Tok, streaming crowd, but for an audiophile such as myself this speaker doesn't quite scratch the itch. But for what I will be using it for, just a source of background music when I'm working in the kitchen, it is adequate. However the price point is a bit out of line in my opinion for what the speaker accomplishes.
