Dmitry Baevsky is a wonderfully talented young alto saxophonist from St. Petersburg, Russia who has been making his name on the New York City scene since 1996. In the tradition of the great altoists of the 1950s he possesses a sweet yet authoritative sound and complete command of the harmonic intricacies of the modern jazz idiom. He is ably supported by a fabulous band of young players including trumpeter Jeremy Pelt (on four tracks) and pianist Jeb Patton, Dmitry presents a winning program of tunes from the canon including rarities like Clifford Brown's LaRue and Gigi Gryce's Shabozz.
