Q: Does it store energy? Or only work off of the energy it is connected to at the time of use?
A: It does not store power. It only converts/inverts it from 12V to 110/120 volt.
A: Our inverters are meant to convert DC power that is stored in a 12V battery to AC power, to power devices that use AC power when no AC power is available. Unfortunately, we do not manufacture the item you are asking about.
Q: Can this inverter power a small microwave and lap top computer?
A: The Duracell 400W inverter can support 320 W continuous and 400W peak. This inverter can support most laptops, but we do not recommend it for use with a microwave.
A: It is actually possible to kill your battery with any power inverter. These are definitely designed to be on when the vehicle is running, otherwise you can kill a battery very quickly. If you're pulling over 150 Watts total constantly, it will be too much for any power inverter you plug into a cigarette lighter. If you are going to be using it for more than 150w, it should be hard wired directly to your car battery like an audio amplifier. It's powerful, but it's not going to replace a home wall outlet.

Q: Can you charge a laptop without the car engine running through the cigarette lighter?
A: If your vehicle supplies power to the 12V socket without the engine running, you can charge the laptop but we don't recommend it, as this could result in the vehicle's starter battery dropping below the voltage needed to start the engine.
