Although an otherwise-new entity, Ehlder's roots are nearly as old as the forests of their native Sweden Ehlder is the latest creative face of the ever-prolific Graavehlder (formerly known as Graav), whose co-guided such cult entities as ARMAGEDDA, LÖNNDOM, and the recently resurrected LIK. As such, Nordabetraktelse bears Graavehlder's unmistakable magick - ancient, solemn, almost monastic. Black metal on the surface, but only barely; beneath that foundation, in the dirt and gravel and of the earth, exist a woodland mysticism and mesmerizing songcraft beyond compare. Put more directly and indirectly, as Graavehlder explains, what LÖNNDOM awoke has been passed on into the spirit of Ehlder, instilling the idea that there's always two ways to look upon a tree you have the visible part above ground and then the part that isn't visible, which you know to exist, so you have to acknowledge them both without deceiving yourself. Proudly pagan in outlook, Ehlder has thus been forming itself for many years through adversities, through ancestors, through time and the idea of what lies ahead. In his estimation, Graavehlder has only borrowed tunes and words that've already been written in one way or another, but it's been interpreted into Ehlder and the band's first public recording, Nordabetraktelse. LP (180g, special vinyl mastering, cream-coloured vinyl), padded inner sleeve, 12Inch insert and protection sleeve. E-L-R's sophomore full-length InchVexierInch oscillates elegantly between velvet darkness and flaring bursts of high energy. The style of the Swiss has been dubbed 'doomgaze' and 'post-metal' and both terms apply loosely to the trio's meandering, down-tempo doom-epics. E-L-R's hypnotic phrases that are constantly varied and warped in repeating loops are reminiscent of shamanic rituals imbued with psychedelic colours. The trio weaves a subtle tapestry with diligence and persistence that depicts a labyrinth full of intricate details and hidden treasures. InchVexierInch does not give up it's secrets easily and there are many shifts and twists hiding in it's sonic shadows as implied by the title that derives from the Latin word InchvexareInch meaning Inchto plague, to irritateInch and in German a 'Vexierbild' means a flip-flop image while in some dialects a 'Vexier' is a puzzle game. E-L-R were conceived by bass-player I.R. and guitarist S.M., who both also took on vocal duties in the German Swiss city of Bern in 2016. They were soon joined by another friend, drummer M.K., whose emotive and intricate style proved to be the perfect fit. The of their debut album InchMaenadInch (2019) was greeted with widespread acclaim by critics and fans alike. On their debut full-length InchMaenadInch, Swiss post doomers E-L-R offer a new perspective on panoramic musical vistas. Bassist I.R. and guitarist S.M., both of whom are singing, and drummer M.K. concoct an atmospheric, heavy and heady brew that sounds familiar and fresh at once. Deeply rooted in their environment as individuals, E-L-R share a shamanist quality and acute spiritual awareness with Our Survival Depends On Us from Austria or Finnish folkists Hexvessel. According to I.R., their Inchmusic is very visceral. We want the listener to delve into our sphere and become entranced in order to feel our energy. It developed in close collaboration during long nights that we also used to write down stories of our own. In this way, we were able to define and carry through our vision.Inch With it's title originating from the name of Greek god Dionysus' female followers, who are associated with nature and excessive feasting respectively, InchMaenadInch follows the group's celebrated 2018 demo InchIn Splendour & SedationInch.
