The Epson ET-5850 is a great All-in-one printer. It is on the big side and is pretty heavy so I would have someone who can lift and help take it out of the box put it where you would like it to go. After you take it out of the box you can start setting it up by taking off the blue tape that comes on it. The blue tape has little tabs on the ends for easy pull-off. After that you put the ink in. I found this to be very fun and relaxing. This is the first printer that I ever got that has a different type of ink. They come in bottles instead of those ink cartridges that to me are pretty hard to use but these make it very easy. The printer came with the two sets of ink. You will use the first ones when you prime it up. You will also partly use the second ones to refill and top it off. The ink should last a year and a half or so but that would all depend on how much you use it. They each have individual numbers and keys on the top of the bottles, so you know where to put each color. To me it also saves from a lot of unnecessary cartridge fills. It comes with a driver’s DVD but you can also just download them from your computer. It comes with easy and clear instructions on how to set it up. It has a good size touchscreen in the front that is easy to navigate through all the different settings. It does however take a while to get it all set-up due to having to pour in the ink and set the paper. There are numerous options to look at for your needs. This printer has everything a home office and a household would need. It comes with the printer, scanner, fax, and a copier all-in-one. It is meant for big jobs and to print out a lot of paper. I have taken several photos one in full color and one in black and white, I like that the printer has easy access to paper size, it can print envelope size to letter size and has three different areas to print from which in all holds 500 pieces of paper. There is a rear paper cartridge and two front ones that give you a lot of options to choose what you would like to get printed and what size. I printed out several things for my home office including full size book projects, a bunch of photos, and several game and puzzle magazines for my kid and myself. I also copied several important documents and I like the fact that it can also copy both sides which saves me paper because I use it a lot. You can scan from the printer to your cloud, email, and computer. I love that it prints very fast even when it prints double sided. I love everything about this printer. As a small business owner, I’m a bit of a “Jill of all trades.” The main part of my small business is design, but I also do a lot of brochures, flyers, and curriculum planning as a leader of a local non-profit group. Being a “Jill of all trades,” I needed a printer that could keep up with my demands. The Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850 is the work-horse that I need! Set-up was very easy. There are easy to follow instructions that tell you every step to take in order to get your printer up and running. This was my first experience filling ink reservoirs with containers of ink, and I must say I am very impressed. The biggest advantage to me is the sustainability...no more shipping my old toner cartridges to be recycled. Filling the tanks with the ink as I need them eliminates cartridge waste. The other advantage of filling my ink reservoirs as I need them is the cost savings. I go through a lot of ink and paper, and I need something that can keep up with me! Being able to see exactly how much ink I have in the reservoirs is great; no more “oops I’m out of ink” surprises! The touch-screen is very easy to navigate. I can easily troubleshoot and get to where I need in the menu. I needed to do a cleaning on the printer heads (there was a bit of bleeding of the ink), and I was able to easily navigate my way to that part of the menu (and easily resolve the bleeding ink problem). The detail in the print-outs are great. I did a few test prints of some brochures and old vintage graphic art, and I was very impressed. I plan to do some more prints of the vintage art on higher quality paper, and frame them. They will look great in my home office! The two-sided copying is impressive and time-saving. I do a lot of copying when setting up curriculum for my non-profit, and being able to set the papers in and walk away after starting the copying process is great. It saves a lot of time and paper. The print speed is lightning fast. My papers are printed before I stand up from the computer to grab them off the printer, and I’m only two steps away! This printer is very user-friendly, and an excellent time saver. The cost savings and sustainability are big bonuses to me as well. I highly recommend the EcoTank Pro ET-5850 to anyone in need of an all-in-one printer. Print quality is excellent. The only challenge I ran into was setting up #10 envelope printing. For some reason, printing directly through Google Chrome was inconsistent, but running the print job through Adobe worked reliably. Customer support was helpful and spent a couple of hours troubleshooting with us, and we ultimately landed on the Adobe workaround. If not for the envelope-printing setup hurdle, I’d give this printer five stars. Hopefully, this helps anyone planning to print #10 envelopes for business use.

I am very happy with the quality of this printer. I was originally a brand loyal HP printer user until I had problems with 3 different HP printers that eventually I had to bring back. I went with this Epson printer for my small business to place in the office and was impressed with it's easy set up, features offered, durability, and ease of use. When my home HP printer started giving me problems, I purchased the same Epson printer I had in my business office to use for home and never been happier. I highly recommend this printer

Gone are the days when setting up a printer was a chore…unbox this printer follow the 1 sheet setup guide and go. I think it took between 5-10 minutes to be up and printing. It found my network and all of my devices were able to find the printer and start using it. A nice change over older eco-tank printers are these refill bottles are designed to only fit in the correct color, eliminating mistakes and any spillage. The display touch screen is large, bright and responsive. It comes with 2 complete sets of ink…which says it is enough for 7500 B&W prints! The printer itself holds over 500 sheets of paper as well as having a rear feed and scanner feed. The tray where final prints comes out is also mechanical…It comes out automatically with a print job….while not necessary is a nice feature. Also this printer is fast! No warm up time and finished prints are out and dry very quickly. You should know this is a BIG printer! Make sure you have a place in your home or office for it. I purchased this printer and it has been excellent for my office needs. The setup was simple and the wireless connection works perfectly with my computer and phone. The print quality is very sharp for documents and color prints look great. I also like the EcoTank system because the ink lasts a long time and saves money compared to regular cartridges. Overall, it is a powerful and reliable printer for everyday work and high-volume printing.

In day-to-day use, the printer is fast and reliable. Text documents come out crisp and sharp, and two-sided printing is nearly as fast as single-sided runs. The automatic document feeder (ADF) and duplex scanning make handling multi-page documents much easier. It’s a bit large — make sure you have the desk or counter space to accommodate it. Also, while photo and color graphics look good, the color accuracy is decent but not perfect. Some hues (especially blues) can shift a bit. Pros: Very low operating cost thanks to the refillable ink tanks Fast print, scan, and copy performance Full-featured (print, scan, copy, fax) with duplex capabilities Multiple connectivity options (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB) Cons: Large footprint — needs good space High upfront cost Color accuracy is good, but not perfect for professional photo work Scanning software can over-process images (lose background lines or fine detail) Overall, if your workflow involves a lot of printing, scanning, or document processing, the ET-5850 is a great choice. You’ll see savings over time, and it handles heavy usage

Easy setup but I underestimated the footprint of this unit. My first experience with a eco tank printer vs cartridge type ink jets. So far prints and scans quickly but a bit noisy. I haven’t run the phone cable to the printer yet so haven’t been able to test the fax machine.

I have been using this printer for about 4 days now and have to say it is finally an answer to my home/office needs. Over the years I have owned many printers, while trying to find one that "does it all" at printing, scanning and faxing without needing alot of maintenance. From what I gather here, I have finally found the printer of my dreams. I'm really floored how easy setup was right out the box. The ink prints beautifully every single time. It's so easy my younger grandchildren know how to use it with ease.

I have been a long Epson user both home and work. I've have a Workforce 845 at home, a small inkjet at work and an Epson 9890 wide format at work. This ET-5850 will replace the small unit I have at work. Wanted a dual tray MFP and was intrigued by the EcoTank. The one reason I switched to Epson printers many years ago was the fact that you could replace individual inks when one ran out, not the whole cartridge. EcoTank looks to be a step beyond individual cartridges. Unpacking the unit, careful it is heavy, was straightforward. Setting up the unit for the first time was easy and quick. The power cord is long and has the "mickey mouse" plug at the printer instead of the typical IEC end. Not a big deal. Power-up then asks you to fill the tanks. The touch screen is nice and bright, adjustable angle and responsive. It walks you through the whole process. Once all tanks are filled (it comes with 2 bottles of each color) it starts to prime the unit. You can see the level of each ink on the outside front of the unit. First fill gets it almost to the top line. Then it starts to prime, once done it goes down quite a bit, but I know there is a full bottle in there. The prime process takes about 9 min, during that time I downloaded all the software on my PC. Mostly updates to the programs I already use. Once unit is done priming, I setup the wireless portion. Quick and easy. Found both 2.4 and 5ghz SSIDs in the house and connected and found a firmware update. Once the software was up and found the printer, it also found the firmware and I pushed it from the computer. Took some time to reboot, but painless. Now the test print. Windows found the printer and sent the test page. Started immediately. To my surprise the output tray gets pushed out to catch the prints automatically! Cool feature. Print was very fine text and bright color, even on plain paper. I had just plain LTR paper loaded into tray one. Nothing in tray 2. I then puled out my Android phone and printed a PDF I had on there. Epson iPrint was able to find the printer and printed easily, just like I expected. With the current quarantine from covid19 I wont have this in the office for a few weeks, but using it at home till I can get there. So far scanning and printing have gone as expected. I feel like this is an excellent example of Epson printer tech that will continue to work for a long time. I think the EcoTank will keep the costs down in the long run as compared to individual cartridges. “This is a review for the Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850 Supertank Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.”

As fast as you'd expect from a fairly top of the line inkjet, no issues with jams or skipping pages when scanning or copying, ethernet connection is flawless, great quality print - good photo quality. I had the model below this for all of two days and found it to be horrible. Jams, skips, WiFi connectivity was profoundly atrocious. (I've seen others here say the 5850 has issues also, so I rearranged some other devices to use ethernet and didn't even try WiFi.) It is a large and heavy item - be sure to look at the specs... and don't get too excited about the fact that it comes with 2 bottles of each color (and black) ink. The first bottle doesn't even fill up the tanks - and the process of setting up the printer uses about 1/3 of the black ink (you'll end up a bit over half full) and 2/3 of the colors. (you'll end up right between the bottom and second from bottom line - and you should refill once it gets to that bottom line) One issue is that unless I set every print job to "fit" on page it cuts off a touch of the top and bottom. You can save settings within the actual Epson desktop software but much harder from mobile.

We've only had this for just over a week and haven't tried photo printing yet, but so far it's been good for color printing and scanning from the ADF. Very fast and even on standard quality, the print is better than our old Canon MX870 on its highest quality setting. Couple of gripes to be aware of: 1)This printer is natively supported in Chrome OS which would have been great for our kid's school provided Chromebook, however, I have not found a way to select the paper tray and it defaults to Tray 1. Well the printer has 2 high capacity trays but Tray 1 is the only one that supports photo paper (it also does photo paper with a rear pull out tray). So I have letter paper loaded in Tray 2 and 4x6 photo paper in Tray 1. The Windows PC's properly select the tray based on the document being printed, but Chrome OS insists on using Tray 1 no matter what. And I haven't found a way to manually select a tray. 2) We have a Ubiquiti Unifi mesh wifi network. When setting up the printer, it offered me each access point individually rather than picking the best one which is literally 4ft away from the printer. After selecting that one, it claimed to connect, but the printer remained offline. After power cycling it did connect and worked for several days with no issues. Today, however, I went to print and it was showing offline again. Could not get it to reconnect without power cycling. This is troubling and could be a real nuisance if it keeps happening. Net result, if the network issue doesn't become a recurring problem, the printer has great features, print quality, and speed. Plus the Ecotanks make for super low cost printing. There's a lot here to love.

I bought this printer to replace an HP M281 Laser Printer. I tried buying the off brand toner cartridges for $70 for a set of four they despite good reviews they failed after 3 months. I simply cannot justify spending $400 for geniune HP xl cartridges. So I was looking for speed, quality and ink affordability. This is based on my first impression, but I have to say I am very impressed. Very Fast, high quality $100 to replace ink every 18-24 months. Furthermore this printer in more flexible and sophisticated than the laser. It is a fairly large printer, but I have found a good spot for it. Actually exceeds my expectations. Most all of the reviews provided until recently were by beta testers who received the printer for free in exchange for a review. Unfortunately, I was not given this printer for free, so at least you know the review is by someone who paid for the product :).

Finally! A printer that works, correctly, right out of the box, the first time and consistently each time thereafter, and without removing and reinstalling the software, or restarting the unit regularly. Although we needed a support call, it was a minor issue -- we missed one of the many tapes that kept it safe in transit. And we misunderstood the picture on the move/secure "handle" on the print head. Our problem, not theirs. The software actually works: print, scan, and fax. (You might know what I am referring to if you have a printer by a certain other company). And imagine: if one color ink runs out, the printer still prints in black! And just refill that one color reservoir and you're good to go again. It would be nice to have a single "dashboard" app rather than multiple single-task apps, but the minor convenience is easily overshadowed by the unit's overall efficiency. Thank you, Epson.

More expensive to purchase, but much better overall than printers that use cartridges because the ink last a lot longer and you can easily fill just the colors that are low. Features on this printer are great.

The Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850 is an outstanding all-in-one printer for business and home office use. It delivers incredibly fast and sharp prints, supports duplex printing and scanning, and its ink tank system lasts much longer than traditional cartridges—saving both time and money. The wireless setup is seamless, and the touchscreen makes navigation simple. It's a bit of an investment, but the performance and ink efficiency are worth it.

I’m absolutely delighted with this inkjet printer. From the moment I set it up, everything has been smooth and effortless — the print quality is crisp and vibrant, the speed is impressive, and even the noise level is pleasantly low. It’s rare to find a printer that checks all the boxes, but this one truly does. Highly recommended!

We finally found a printer that truly works for us. After going through so many over the years, this one has been a game changer. The print quality is excellent, and we’re saving thousands of dollars a year on ink compared to our previous toner printers. We couldn’t be happier—we now have eight of these set up, one at each station.
