Great hiking tool to have with solar and a charging crank with a cool style. Always nice having a radio for emergency. It has a very bright light and after charging it from the wire it comes with it lasts a long time before it dies. It's a downgrade from the raptor model and a little pricey having less functions than the raptor but has a bottle opener which is nice, overall satisfied it's been useful, it's also tough and handles being dropped as well.

EATON makes 2 good "crank radios", this and the FRX2 in white. I have one of each and, now that I have seen this, I prefer the FRX2 for a couple of reasons; The rubber coated buttons are hard to press / activate for tuning, setting the clock and just turning on the radio and light. Secondly, the display is very small and hard to read. Until I set the clock it was hard to tell which way is UP on the display. And you really need the light. With the light off, in a low light area, you can't read it at all. Nether radio has a WX Alert function, that they could both use. On a positive note, the radio 'looks' very rugged; with rubber all over and a seal for the USB ports. Of course, I have not splashed it to test that feature, but i would think that it could fend-off some good splashing. Just don't take it diving. Overall, for normal outdoor activities this would be a good radio. For more info see the ETON web site at etoncorp.com For a very good emergency radio, have a look at the Midland ER310, for about $20 more.

A good rugged, transistor radio to keep in the car, or to use while camping
