Can this dehumidifier be used in the basement?
Answered by FrigidaireSupportGood day! Yes. The Frigidaire 4,500 sq. ft. / 50-pint dehumidifier (model FHDD5034Y1) can be used in a basement. In fact, the Frigidaire manual specifically discusses using the dehumidifier in a basement and gives instructions for that location. However, there is an important limitation: - Minimum operating temperature: about 41°F (5°C). - If your basement falls below 41°F, Frigidaire says the unit may not operate properly, and its performance can drop substantially. - It does have automatic defrost, but Frigidaire specifically says that an unfinished basement reaching freezing temperatures is not an appropriate operating environment for this unit. - The manual also says to keep adequate clearance around the unit and not restrict the air intake/outlet. - Maico
We live in the Midwest and this unit will be placed in an unfinished basement. I did not see anywhere that this unit has an auto-defrost feature. How can we be sure it will continue to function during our sometimes freezing winters?

The pictures of the 5034Y1 are not consistent. Some show the exhaust out the top, some show the exhaust out the side. Where does the unit exhaust the air: top or side? (BTW: our old broken Fridgidair exhausts out the side).

This unit calls for 1/2 inch drain hose. Is this internal or external diameter?
Answered by NADIAKThe hose designed for this dehumidifier is Frigidaire 18FFDHMH01, I bought it on Amazon. It seems like it has 1/2 inch external diameter.
