  • Features
    • Hard Food Disposer: true (This feature has blades to chop and disintegrate hard food particles, making them small enough to easily drain away. This prevents them from being recirculated back onto dishware and allows for easy maintenance.)
    • Drying Method: Heated drying (Appliances that use heat to dry the dishes will include a heating element or minerals which transform moisture into heat. A fan or vent then circulates the hot dry air throughout the tub during the drying cycle. This may reduce drying time and the risk of water spots. Appliances that use minerals to produce heat are considered more energy efficient than those that include a heating element. Appliances that use condensation drying are considered more energy efficient than those that use heated drying. Instead, high temperature water is produced during the final rinse cycle which warms the interior and eventually condensates and drains out of the machine.)
    • Operating Sound Level: 48 decibels adjusted (Today's appliances are pretty quiet. To get a sense for how quiet you'll need, think about having a conversation in the same room. • Child Lock: true (Setting that allows appliance to be temporarily locked to prevent use.)

Q: how does the steam vent from this particular dishwasher? I noticed that the dishwasher with top controls has the vent on the upper left corner above the handle just like my old GE profile but I cannot figure out how this model vents. is it on the back?

A: Hi lowgman - Thanks for considering GE Model # GDF645SGNBB. We certainly appreciate your loyalty! This model has a hidden vent with fan assist. This is found on all models without a visible vent on the front. The vent is concealed inside the dishwasher door. This provides a clean appearance, seals in sound during the wash cycle, and protects against venting damage to countertops such as Corian or granite. Air is pulled from the tub with an efficient 10 watt fan. The fan drives the moist air down a condensation tube, where any remaining drops of moisture are released within the door to a moisture proof trough in the lower inner door. By the time the moisture reaches this part of the door, the moisture has been reduced to a few drops. Moisture then drains back into the bottom of the tub and away from the dish load. We're glad to have you in the family. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue

Q: I am finding it very hard to figure out the water usage for dishwashers. I am looking for one that uses a minimal amount of water as I have a septic tank and do not want to over burden it. How do I find out this information?

A: Hi Rohold - Model GDF645SGNBB uses 2.4 to 6.6 gallons. The amount of water used in our dishwashers has been significantly lowered over the years. Changes have been made to continually make the dishwashers more efficient. Different models vary in the number of gallons used in the different cycles. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue
