Questions & Answers
Does the ice stay frozen or do you have to remove it from the basket into a bag to store in the freezer?
Answered by GE AnswersNo, the Opal Ice Maker does not keep ice frozen in the ice bin long term. Water from the thawed ice is recirculated back into the reservoir.
Does this ice maker require a filter?
Answered by GE AnswersThere are two optional water filters available for the Opal Mini that are not required for operation. These are the Opal Taste and Odor Filter and Opal Scale Inhibiting Filter available on the GE Appliances Parts website.
If you use distilled water, do you still need to use water filter?I
Answered by GE AnswersWhile using a filter with the Opal ice maker is optional, if you have the filter and use distilled water, you also have ice that is free from hard minerals that cause scaling and changes in taste.
What is the noise level on this unit?
Answered by GE AnswersOur Opal is a complex device that combines electrical and mechanical components such as a compressor, pump, motors and fans to deliver perfect nugget ice. These components power on at different times during the ice making cycle. There will be some sounds associated with the running of these components. These normal sounds typically cease after 10 to 45 minutes within the ice making cycle. Hard surfaces like the floor, walls and countertops can amplify these sounds.
