Made of diecast metal with some plastic parts, it offers durability and a heavy, realistic feel. Dimensions are approximately 5.875 inches in length with a 5.625-inch wingspan. The McDonnell Douglas DC-9 is a five-abreast, single-aisle American jetliner, originally developed by the Douglas Aircraft Company and first flown in 1965. The DC-9-15 became a reliable aircraft for smaller routes, entering service with Delta Air Lines in 1965. Midway Airlines, founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1976, adopted the DC-9-15 to operate flights from Midway International Airport, reviving the airport’s activity after much traffic shifted to O’Hare International Airport. The airline began operations in 1979, contributing to the redevelopment and growth of Chicago’s South Side, and although it went bankrupt in 1991, its legacy continued through a new company operating from 1993 to 2003. This 1:200 scale model captures the essence of both the aircraft and the airline, making it a meaningful addition for aviation enthusiasts and collectors.
