My recent trip to Costa Rica I was able to borrow my friend's GoPro Hero 5 along with my hero 3+ Black. Noticable improvements and ease of use I actually purchased one when I returned. Hopefully they are able to add optical image stabilization on the next model. I did try the sony FDR x3000 great video quality !!! but lack of being able to view images with a built in screen was a con for me for an upgrade . Both are great action camera but the GoPro won me over with the touch screen. 5 stars if they offered optical image stabilization

My husband and I purchased with camera for our honeymoon to Hawaii and it was great. We specifically purchased it for use on a snorkel trip and the photos are amazing. I would recommend this camera to anyone seeking any adventure that a regular camera will not be handy for. I added two photos that I took about 15 feet down in the water. I'm in no way a professional photographer, but I'm very happy with the quality.

Great camera! I accidentally took it scuba diving under estimating how deep we would go. Even though I didn’t have the super suit on and we were down over a few meters (65 ft down)...oooops the camera was ok when we came to the surface. Wouldn’t t recommend doing. Thank goodness it’s a great waterproof design.

This year I've traveled to Tahiti, Hawaii and soon I'm going to the Bahamas. I've made beautiful HD movies underwater swimming with sharks, sting rays and sea turtles. The images are crisp and clear. The videos look very smooth. It's easy to record underwater because the beeps are loud enough that you can hear it even while snorkeling and diving. I recommend buying the boom arm (which doubles as a floataion device) also, for water use. The only thing I had an issue with was getting used to the software and transferring the pictures/video to my phone. It tells me to use wifi to sync but it really uses Bluetooth, the instructions were not clear and it took me a while to find how to do it online. Overall excellent camera for action, underwater and general use. I take this anywhere I'm afraid to take my iPhone, its rugged and very high quality.

I have owned all of the GoPros since the HERO 3+. For this generation of the their latest camera, GoPro broke their yearly release cycle and instead made us all wait two years before we got a successor to the HERO 4. Because I mainly use the GoPros as a B-cam on film shoots, many of the new features which GoPro added to the HERO 5 (GPS, voice control, electronic image stabilization, wide dynamic range photo mode, and auto cloud upload) are not really helpful to me. The occasional freezing is certainly not worth these features, but hopefully GoPro will fix that with a software updat down the road. The only new features which I've actually found helpful is the new LCD screen, the advanced ProTune options, and the RAW photo mode. I've yet to decide if the waterproofing is worth it (considering that if you scratch your lens you'll have to replace the lens rather than the housing the camera is in) but it seems like a nice feature overall. In summary, I'd recommend this camera to anyone looking to get an action cam as it is one of the best on the market despite the high price. However those who already have the GoPro 4 Black might not find the slightly gimmicky new features quite worth the upgrade.

This is my first GoPro camera I normally use the Sony action cams mainly because it has similar color grading to my main Sonys I use for filming and image stabilization. I ride downhill mountain bikes and mx so IS was very important but for a helmet cam the Sony just wasn't cutting it. My main concern was there was no way to angle the camera so it wasn't pointed either at my visor or directly in down in front of me. I decided to give the GoPro a shot after seeing it finally came with IS and man I'm glad I did! From out of box setup the menu navigation is extemely easy, I can mount the cam underneath my visor and get a great angle of the course, IS works great, I can choose real slow motion at 1080 120fps vs the Sony only did 120fps in 720. Battery life is good so far not as good as my Sony but from what I've heard a huge improvement from previous GoPro's I just bought the dual charger that came with an extra battery so I have 2 and both seem to be more than enough for a few hours of footage I'm capturing. The GPS is a pretty rad feature my only compliant is they need to make it useable with their GoPro phone app you can only use with their desktop version. Overall I'm super pumped on the decision I made to switch to the GoPro I even bought a session 5 as a B roll camera. My only complaints really are the lack of GPS options in mobile app, and the pairing process to the app my Sony is a lot more simple maybe just something I need to get use to. Other than that extrmely happy with the camera and would recommend over any other brand hands down.

I have a GoPro 3 Black and picked up the new Hero5 Black to go with us on a trip to the Caribbean. What a great improvement over my 3. The camera is waterproof without having to add the housing. The images are very sharp. And I used the red filter for some amazing shots on the reef.

The small and powerful go pro 5 is light, doesn't need the case to be waterproof, and records great audio, unseen before in heros with case. I've used it for two weeks and I'm very happy with the videos. I specifically use it for skydiving, and would recommend it to anyone

I previously owned a go Pro hero 3+ which I enjoyed using with my drones. I am a quadriplegic and since buying the hero 5+. I have enjoyed using it a lot more because of the voice control settings. It's a lot easier to use As far as in the water because you do not have to put the cover on it to use it. A1 plus camera.

This version is much easier to program and view POVs with the screen and menu on the back of the camera. The options and imagery are tops, the sound controls like telling GoPro Shut off are awesome. Also has settings for slow motions and time-lapse that make it easier to use.

Bought to use in ToughMudder Carolinas. Mud, Water, climbing, grinding. It met all my expectations. Fully submerged at times. No problem. I did find mud in crevices. I used a soft dry toothbrush to get clean. It took a pounding. Produced great footage.

I bought to take on vacation. My 3 kids and I was going to try scuba diving for the first time. The camera was real easy to use as well as the app. I tested it in the pool as I read some say that even know the camera was water proof theirs leaked but not even a drop. I did however buy the water proof case just in case but think it would have been fine without it.

I absolutely loved this camera! I bought it specifically for a trip to the Caribbean - Isla Holbox, Quintana Roo, México (highly recommend). I took it with me on our tour to swim with Whale Sharks. I'm sure the pictures weren't the best but you have to understand that I was just amazed at the size of these animals (this one about 20 feet!) and was just not able to be still enough to take better pictures. It probably doesn't help that I'm not an experienced or advanced swimmer in the open sea. The camera as well as the apps are incredibly user friendly for a first timer like me. I can't wait to take it on all my vacations from now on!

Love the Go Pro 5 able to see what your videoing or taking a picture of. Purchased this camera for taking picture while diving. Took the camera down 100 feet with the super suit on the camera in Key West.

I bought the Hero5 Black to take on a snow skiing trip out west. Didn't know much about using it (still don't but I'm doing better). Used it 4 days, Bright sun and serious overcast with heavy snow. Amazingly sharp pictures in all conditions. Battery life was also better than expected: lasted easily for runs that I shot each day (charged at night), so we have a lot of pedestrian skiing that all looks the same. Used the head strap mount mostly. It helped to synch my phone so I could see the view angle of the camera while it was on my head before I started my run. Video stabilization was also an obvious benefit. Camera did all i could hope. I need to learn more of its capabilities and ski better.

This is the very first time I buy a video camera. This GoPro Hero 5 Black was the best choice I could take. I love it, it's very easy to use, very good quality and so friendly.

My fiancé and I took this to Jamaica, and we got incredible pictures both below and above the water. It was the perfect size for traveling and the quality was wonderful.

Love the quality of image, 4K and the voice commands makes photographying much easier. Very good action camera overall the only downside is the battery who dies fast. Will get a extra one for sure.

This is such a cool camera and I've owned a few over the years but this one is so unique in what it does. The images and video quality are amazing and of course it's made to go everywhere. Picked up a few accessories and batteries and we are ready to take it on our cruise. Just for fun here is a photo of 3 of the camera's I've had over the last 15 years.

I was very skeptical purchasing this product after a not so good experience with my GoPro 3 black, which I went through three within the first month due to different defects (#1 did not work out of the box, #2 would not charge, #3 stopped working after second dive trip). However, I really wanted to capture underwater dive video during my father's 50th birthday dive trip and none of the stores near me had the competitors product that I wanted (Garmin Virb). Honestly, I do not regret my decision as the video I captured was very good, at least during the day. I only gave it 4-stars because it does not work well in low-light conditions at all.
