Grachan Moncur III - Exploration - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This recording marks the return of one of the most original and distinctive voices of the early 1960s. While Grachan Moncur III never completely left the musical scene, he certainly has been out of the limelight for the past two decades. He has recorded only once in the last decade, and it had been 30 years since his last album as a leader. Moncur's compositions have a singular Inchin and outInch quality reflecting his own varied musical experiences. The repertoire revisits Moncur classics from his Jazztet period, his Blue Note albums, and his New Africa suite. This features Gary Bartz, Billy Harper, Gary Smulyan, Tim Hagens and Andrew Cyrille.
