Good software doing a very difficult task. My taxes are complicated, and H&R Block software has made it much easier for 30 years. I've used both the PC and Mac versions, and they both work well

We have been using this software for years and occasionally the installation encounters a hiccup or the execution is fussy about system software on a desktop Mac. This year everything went smoothly and little improvements like more consistency in the placement of the navigation buttons was evident. The wording of one question about tuition payments remains a bit misleading, so you do have to read carefully. Includes state software but e-filing a state return costs extra. With this software, your only complaints will be with the state and the IRS where they belong.

I have used many different software tax programs over the years, and have to say the H&R Block has always been solid. Most years I look at prices and pick whichever program will maximize my return without breaking the bank as far as cost. This year, H&R Block was significantly cheaper than it's main competitors by a large margin. Through Best Buy I paid roughly $40 where its speedy rival wanted close to $200, and my returns were almost the same. This is a great product at an excellent price! Easy to install and use to file Federal and State Returns.

Works well; I have used H&R Block software for years now. This was first year I needed to do a Schedule C, and it was helpful for that. You sometimes have to do a bit of side research on-line while going through it, when the instructions don't directly answer your questions; but I imagine you would find that with any of these tax prep packages.

The Best Buy experience was great. Easy to order, clear instructions/status and immediate download access for the software. I even paid for part of it with a gift card with no issues. The software on the other hand had some issues with importing some 1099 reports and other quirks. Even their 2nd level tech support couldn't fix it and suggested it "wasn't supported" even though it is in the product menu, worked in previous years and is in their online product.

One typically thinks these software applications performing tax refund formulas; basically all are the same using standard inputs. But, I can say after my switch this year to try H&R Block, I'll be trying something else in the future. The crux of my reason, is how poorly the application imported my W2 data. I had to fix many errors and one was a huge problem where it estimated lots of taxes were still owed because one of those fields it made an error on was #2, Federal Income Tax Withheld. Too critical of a mistake. Who knows what others it may cause!

If you have rentals over 14 days, this is helpful. If you are under the 14 day threshold and still get a 1099K from AirBnB or VRBO, it does better than Turbotax, but it still requires program maneuvering that most users won’t know. It is better to see a tax specialist for this case than to use the program.

Switched from Turbo Tax. The tax portion of H&R Tax seems to be easier than Turbo. The problem is that after 5 hours of working on the issue I could not get it to print the forms. Either it scales up to 140% or down to 30%. If you try to scale correctly, it shrinks the width, but leaves half the form off the bottom of the page and top of the page blank. Even the PDF output is scaled wrong.
