About This Item
Its name evokes two legendary images: one ancient and one more recent. The ancient Scottish legend of Tam O'Shanter spoke of a beautiful siren who appeared in a torn chemise of "cutty sark." In pursuing her, the hero attained great speed, always hoping to catch his dream. It was this speed that was invoked in the 19th century when the great clipper ship was christened "Cutty Sark" and was considered the fastest ship of that Golden Age of Sail.
