A: I tested one with a 2 gallon soup pot and with a 12 inch frying pan. The first time the unit worked, it worked perfectly. The second time I went to use the unit, it gave an error code with a flashing U that is underlined. NO ONE at Best Buy or Insignia knew what that code meant, and because it happened AFTER the 15 day return period, they wont do anything about it. They cant fix it. I would suggest any other brand. This one doesnt work and there is zero support for it.
Q: Can we use any pots on this cooktop or only insignia brand works on it
A: The brand doesn't matter, being induction compatible does. Cookware will have an icon on bottom that looks like a coiled spring to show it's compatible. You can test with a magnet, of it attaches to pan or pot it will work. Cast iron cookware will work with our too.
Q: What are the electrical requirements and is it a plug in or does it need to be hard wired?
A: Standard 2-prong (ungrounded) US plug. 1800W means it will max out a 15A circuit at full draw. Mine has tripped the breaker once or twice before, if anything else is being used on the circuit at the same time I'm at full power. 1200W is the most you can pull on a 10A circuit.
A: I have done over a dozen 5-gallon all-grain batches of beer in a 6-gallon stainless pot on this, so at least 45lbs and it hasn't broken, yet.
Q: What is meant by “single zone”?
A: A zone means a cook spot. You can only cook with one pan on it at a time. However, as both of the units I bought worked a SINGLE time, and then failed after the 15 day return date, I would highly suggest this product would not be a good choice for you.
Q: How long is the cord? What colour?
A: the cord is about 58 inches and it is black.
Q: Does this product work with 316 stainless steel cookware?
A: If a magnet sticks to it, it will work
Q: If I want to use this outdoors..What type of extension cord should I use ? Thanks
A: You should use a cord capable of 20 amps as this uses 15 amps. You don’t want to have the cord heat up if you are cooking on the highest temperature or power levels. If you plan to use lower levels a 15 amp cord would be fine.
