can the speakers be operated without the remote control

You get full functionality with the remote including tone controls and play controls but you can use the speakers without the remote. Can these be used with a powered receiver? I would like to connect to a receiver for 5.1 sound & use these speakers for the front left and front right, for movie watching. Then I would like to use the bluetooth function for music streaming. Both uses?
